Mini: Cooper S 2006, 6 Speed Manual on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
You are bidding on a perfectly maintained 2006 MINI Cooper S. I am the original owner, and after many years of great service as a commuter vehicle, I am putting the car up for sale. I purchased the car brand new at Brecht MINI of San Diego, where the car was serviced and maintained in a timely fashion. The MINI comes with great safety features, such as driver, passenger, and side airbags, as well as automatic stability control (ASC) ABS breaks. In addition, there is a cruise control system, front and rear fog lamps and xenon headlights. There is also an ipod cable for connecting your music. Overall the car is great condition and fun to drive. It is a good fit for both tall and shorter people, as the cab has loads of headroom and the seats adjust both vertically and horizontally. This car is a great find for anyone looking to enjoy their driving experience in a stylish, safe and responsive vehicle.
Interior and exterior condition: The interior is in great condition, and there are only some minor scratches on the exterior paint, including a dent on the left rear bumper. The black factory decal racing stripes on the hood are fading, but they can be easily removed or replaced. There are some sap drops on the roof. The driver's seat has some normal wear and tear cracking in the original upholstery. Major service information: Most recently, the crank pulley and the original factory battery were replaced in January 2014. The exhaust system suspension brackets and the hydraulic engine mount was replaced in 2012. |

2014 Mini Cooper S
Fri, 27 Jun 2014One of the big challenges as an automotive journalist is reviewing cars that you have a personal connection to. I have a strong passion for Minis. My first new car was a 2004 Cooper S, and I still own a 2006 model. It's this affinity that's left me with a general disdain of the 2007 to 2013 model relative to my first-gen.
The last-generation cars, with their turbocharged engines, softer suspensions, duller steering and homelier looks are, in my mind, inferior to their 2002 to 2006 predecessors. As a car reviewer, though, I couldn't in good conscience argue the same point. The R56, as the last-gen cars were known internally and by enthusiasts, was a better-balanced vehicle that retained the lion's share of the abilities and character of the first-generation, R53 Cooper S, but they were better thought out, better designed, more livable, and felt like more complete products.
Before the third-generation of the reborn Mini Cooper S landed in my driveway, I couldn't help but wonder whether the model would continue its slide towards mass appeal, or if it would re-embrace the enthusiast realm with a stronger driver-focused mission. As I found out during my week with the car, it was a bit of both.

Mini fesses up to Countryman clutch issue, plans fix
Sat, 10 Nov 2012Aside from the general lack of snow in the Midwest earlier this year that hampered our ability to properly play with our Blizzak-equipped Mini Contryman long-term test vehicle, the biggest problem we had with this crossover during the year we spent with it was the transmission. On four different monthly updates (September, October, November and June), all in the hands of different Autoblog editors, the Countryman's clutch was called out for being too finicky, leading to many stall outs. Apparently, we weren't alone in our assessment of the Countryman's clutch woes.
According to MotoringFile, Mini has updated the Countryman with a different clutch material and improved software. This much-needed change is being implemented starting this month, but Mini hasn't said what it is doing about existing 2011 and 2012 Countryman models that are afflicted with this problem.
Head over to MotoringFile to see the full official statement from Mini USA on this issue.
