1977 Morris Mini Cooper S? Very FAST, Very FUN

The Mini has the S type Veglia gages, S type 8" dual piston disk brakes with cross drilled and grooved ventilated rotors, an S type two core front mounted oil cooler, and S type one piece offset rear brake drums and adjustable rear suspension with rubber cones in the front and blue springs in the rear, which gives up a bit in handling but more than makes it up in the improved ride. The odometer reads 84726k but it was missing the cable, which I custom fitted when I purchased the Mini. I do not believe the odometer was functional and may have been a replacement after the rebuild.

Before the Mini left the UK in 2007 it was tuned and tested prior to shipping to the U.S. by Balmuir Garage in England. They stated it was one of the fastest minis they've seen in a long time. It is said to turn out 126 bhp at the flywheel. It is a true 1977, not a "re-shelled" car. This is not just a show car as I have enjoyed driving it often averaging about 1000 miles a year to shows and just fun drives, it is a blast to drive. Any one who raced sport cars in the 60's would be very much at home with it. It also has American Racing alloy rims with Sumitomo 175/50 R13 72H tires,Custom fiberglass wheel flares, and many extras, such as two bonnets, one solid RED and the other RED with white stripes, this bonnet is damaged but is repairable. As I stated the car is driven so it has a few dings in the bumpers, and paint chips, there is no rust evident. The Mini appears to have had a full rebuild very recently as both front and rear sub frames appear almost new also there is no floor nor battery box rust, . Glass overall is decent; but right rear has some scratches. Doors open and shut well. Has standard heater/defroster that works well, and the dash vents are connected. The Mini is in very good condition.

The engine is a 1275cc A+ Metro bored to 1380cc or 84ci. The engine was built by Bill Richards Racing of Kent England. It has a Cooper S crank and S rods, it also has VP 572 competition big end bearings and VP 91120 Competition main bearings, Omega 40X pistons, strengthened center main cap. The cam is a Kent 296 with duplex timing gear, The engine also has lightened cam followers, ported and polished cylinder head with enlarged valves of 31mm inlet; 36.5 outlet, bronze guides, LCB 50mm exhaust manifold with Sportex 55mm exhaust system with 75mm tail pipe. (Yes it is a bit LOUD - but not quite as noticeable at highway speeds). The transmission is a Bill Richards rebuilt four-speed, four synchro, close-ratio gearbox with center oil pickup. It is connected to the to the front drive wheels with a lightened steel; flywheel and back plate fitted with the gray diaphragm competition clutch through a pinned Metro Turbo differential. The engine is fed with a Weber 45 DCOE carburetor on a swan neck manifold and fired by a complete electronic ignition system, and cooled by a modified four core radiator. and has never overheated. The engine was built around 2000, 2001 and had less that 5000 miles on it at the time of my purchase in August 2009.

The Mini is not modified to a point a novice could not operate it easily, The car is very streetable but hard riding, it corners like it is on rails when it is set up. but the engine hits the 6000 RPM safe red-line very quickly in the lower gears. It's a blast!

Mini boss contradicts reports on production Superleggera, says Minor unlikely

Wed, Mar 18 2015

Mini has added to our green-beer-induced hangover with some disappointing news. The Mini Superleggera Vision Concept is not quite as confirmed as we had been led to believe. And making matters worse, the same high-ranking source that put the kibosh on confirmation of the stylish two-seater said he "doesn't see" a mini Mini. Mini boss Peter Schwarzenbauer contradicted yesterday's report in an interview with Automotive News, although he certainly doesn't oppose the idea of the Superleggera Vision. "I cannot confirm that it has been approved yet," Schwarzenbauer told AN, adding that it'd be a "great addition to the Mini range" and that he's "still pushing" for it to arrive in dealerships. That's good news for fans of yesterday's report. Schwarzenbauer is less of a fan of a small, entry-level mini Mini, based on the Rocketman Concept. "I don't see a smaller car than the current one," the exec said. It's long been rumored that Mini was readying a smaller, budget model that was more in line with the original Austin and Morris Minis, rather than the premium sub-compact model that BMW has been selling for the past 13 years. The company has even, allegedly, been in cahoots with Toyota to develop the new compact model. We reported as recently as January that the Anglo-Teutonic outfit and its Japanese partners would develop an entirely new platform for the Minor, although that certainly doesn't seem to be the case now. How do you feel about this? Does Mini need to get back to its roots with the affordable, Rocketman-based Minor, or should it keep on doing what it's doing? What about the Superleggera Vision Concept? Should Mini add it as a successor to the short-lived Roadster? Have your say in Comments. Related Video:

John Cooper Works Mini rolls into Detroit, asks 'GTI who?'

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Mini marched into the 2015 Detroit Auto Show and introduced its very own competitor to the Volkswagen GTI with new John Cooper Works Hardtop. Blessed with 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet from its 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder, the new JCW should provide a more thrilling drive than the standard Cooper S (not that the 189-hp model lacked in terms of entertainment value). The 6.4-second sprint to 60 falls to 6.1 in the JCW, while owners should expect an even more agile handling experience courtesy of an uprated version of the Cooper S' sports suspension. Upgraded Brembo brakes, larger wheels and stickier tires and an electronic differential round out the performance upgrades, although Mini also paid significant attention to the aesthetics. A revised aero kit doesn't do the third-generation Works car many favors in the appearance department, but as both driver and front passengers will find themselves in a set of exclusive JCW sports seats, they'll probably be too comfortable and supportive to care. A JCW steering wheel, shift lever, door sills and instrument cluster tweaks mark the extent of the interior updates. Take a look at our full live gallery of images of the new JCW Mini direct from the floor of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The new MINI John Cooper Works. 10.12.2014 - Green light for the latest edition of the top athlete in the small car segment; the new MINI John Cooper Works combines authentic race feeling with the premium characteristics and extended product substance of the latest MINI Generation; distinctive, tradition-steeped, based on a vehicle concept combining MINI and John Cooper Works, with performance qualities which are exceptional within the competitive environment. - Extreme driving fun and exclusive charisma based on technology for engine, suspension and aerodynamics derived directly from motor racing as well as model-specific design features for the exterior and interior; greater differentiation from the MINI 3 door highlights the model's individual character.

Mini Cooper SE Convertible wheels made entirely from recycled aluminum

Sun, Feb 26 2023

Mini has revealed an interesting fact about its limited-run Mini Cooper SE Convertible: It's the first production car with wheels made from 100% recycled aluminum. Despite sharing the same look as wheels available on the regular SE hatch, they're actually much more environmentally friendly. The wheels were developed with Swiss wheel manufacturer Ronal. The company sells aftermarket wheels under the Ronal and Speedline brands, and it supplies OEMs. And it's no stranger to more environmentally-friendly wheel production. It supplies wheels for the Audi E-Tron GT that are made using a smelting process that produces oxygen rather than carbon dioxide, and it now has a line of claimed carbon-neutral aftermarket wheels. But back to the Mini's wheels. Using all recycled aluminum has the obvious benefit of not requiring new aluminum to be manufactured. But the benefits are greater than just the raw material use. Mini points out that a major improvement in carbon emissions comes from being able to skip the electrolysis process for new aluminum manufacturing. Pure aluminum is extracted from aluminum oxide (which is in turn taken from the mineral bauxite). To do this large amounts of electricity are passed through molten solutions of aluminum oxide and cryolite (which takes energy to heat) across graphite cathodes and annodes. Not only does this use a lot of electricity that has its own carbon costs, the oxygen that separates from the aluminum bonds to the graphite annodes, yielding more carbon dioxide (which is why the production of those Audi wheels is also interesting). In total, Mini says the recycled wheel production reduces carbon emissions by 75%. More specifically, it estimates about 0.16 kilograms (0.35 pounds) per kilogram (2.2 pounds) of aluminum used. Mini also stresses that this process still maintains all the strength of conventional wheels, just in a greener way. And of course, the wheels themselves are recyclable again. Mini, and BMW more broadly, are looking at ways to upscale the process and to source suitable recyclable products, likely other old wheels from cars no longer on the road. Though neither company said anything about when we'll see fully recycled wheels more widely available. Related Video: MINI Electric Pacesetter inside and out
