You're looking at possibly the most unique Mini you'll ever see. In addition to its custom-fabricated fiberglass body and 1.9L Honda VTEC engine, all the connecting rods, pistons, crank and such are from the usual suspects in Honda performance. It’s all cross-drilled, lightened, balanced, blueprinted, polished, ported and all that engine jargon, as it’s pushing 400 HP- without a bottle of nitrous or aviation fuel. The turbo is from Turbotronics, the alloy radiator from Fluidyne, the ignition from MSD, an Autotronic fuel injection system and a custom intercooler. It’s not the ultimate high output VTEC engine, but with the custom header and straight pipe exhaust system, it's very loud and in your face. Plus when have you ever heard of a 400 hp Mini? Housing the Volk Racing 9x17-inch wheels mounted with 235/40 ZR-17 Yokohama S-Drive rubber, are extreme 10-inch flares made of hand-formed fiberglass. The spaceframe chassis is a one-off creation, built to turn this car into a one-off rally capable car. This car is road legal, and can be imported anywhere in the world.

The car has been built to race-spec, with all guages, roll cage and safety equipment installed. But it's 100% road legal.

Underneath the custom British Flag Livery wrap is a $15,000 custom Lamborghini pearl yellow paint job.

Over $120,000 went into building this car. It's currently housed at ZR Auto in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Potential buyers are welcome to come by for a viewing of this magnificent car.

Mini Coopers make the best Pac-Man ghosts in Pixels movie trailer

Thu, Mar 19 2015

The concept of fighting off real-world incarnations of classic arcade game characters out to destroy the Earth sounds like a rejected idea for an SNL Digital Short. But it's coming to theaters this summer in a film called Pixels starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James. Based on the trailer, it seems the premise of the film is that aliens receive a message from Earth and decide to fight back with vintage arcade characters, including ones from Space Invaders, Q*bert and Donkey Kong. To defeat these baddies, Sandler and Co must beat them in the style of their respective games. When it comes time to take out the giant glowing-yellow Pac-Man, their plan includes outfitting a quartet of Mini Cooper S models as the ghosts. Squint at the cars' license plates to spot a subtle, visual joke. They are called Inky, Pinky, Blinky and Clyde – the nicknames of the enemies in the arcade. While it could be argued that Sandler and James haven't quite been at the top of their games recently, the story here appears to boil down to Ghostbusters with video games, which could work purely on a nostalgic level if it's properly handled. Check out the trailer to spot even more vintage arcade references.

2015 Mini Countryman getting mild facelift for NY

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

Mini has introduced three generations of retro hatchback since its revival in 2001, with numerous bodystyles spun off that core model. But the Countryman has always stood apart from the rest (save the Paceman which was in turn spun off of it). The Mini crossover is bigger than the rest of the lineup, has more doors, more driven wheels and a familiar yet different look.
There's an all-new model in the works, set to share its architecture with BMW's own front-drive family. But that's still a couple of years away, so to keep the Countryman looking fresh, Mini is reportedly preparing to roll out a mildly facelifted version at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
As we're still awaiting confirmation from the automaker, few details on the updated Countryman are available at this point, but word has it that it will only include some minor cosmetic enhancements to the interior and exterior of the vehicle. Just how comprehensive those updates will be, and how many of them will be derived from the latest Mini Cooper hardtop remain to be seen, but with the NY show just a week away, it won't be long before we find out.
