1993 Mercury Grand Marquis Ls Sedan 4-door 4.6l on 2040-cars

Year:1993 Mileage:95000 Color: is rock solid and all the original paint is intact with no bubbling or rust
Location:

This classic Mercury is guaranteed to have less than 100,000 original miles, although the odometer recently stopped functioning.  The car was purchased new in Cape Charles, Virginia by the original owners and has remained in their family until I purchased it from their son, who is a personal friend and drove it for a short time before selling to me while settling his late parent's estate.  This car truly is a rare gem.

LS Trim includes the beautiful burgundy leather seats which can be seen in the pictures and are in near-perfect condition.  All leather has been cleaned and conditioned and will last for many years to come.  The interior is perfect with the exception of a few stains on the carpets.  The headliner is totally intact and in perfect condition.  (see pictures)  The dash board, doors and all trim and interior/exterior lights are intact and in working order.  The electric radio antennae mast works perfectly and the AM/FM radio is in "as new" excellent working condition.  All speakers function perfectly with no distortion.  The original owner's manual is in the glove box.  This car was never abused in any way and literally was driven by a retired couple its entire life.

The shiny black exterior is rock solid and all the original paint is intact with no bubbling or rust.  I have been under the car and all panels are solid and rust-free.  The car has never been driven on salt treated roads and spent its entire life south of the Mason Dixon.  There are some minor surface scratches but all the sheet metal is strait and there are no dents, cracks or missing moldings or exterior trim.

Known items that do not currently work:

  • The rear electric window regulators are not engaging.  I had the driver's side front window regulator replaced in December, 2013 and both front electric windows function fine.
  • All electric seat functions are in working order for both drive and passenger front split bench seats.
  • The A/C needs recharging but heat, defroster, etc. are working like new.
  • The "air bag" dummy light is flashing.  I'm not sure what is causing this.  Could be a bad sensor.  The airbags have never been deployed.  This car has incredibly straight sheet metal and has never been damaged in any way.
  • The engine fires up immediately and runs smoothly.  A new battery has just been installed.  The car hesitates briefly when cold but runs smooth as silk when warmed up.
  • The steering is tight and I just had the outer steering control arms replaced.  All other steering and suspension components were checked out and are fine.
  • The serpentine engine belt was replaced and all other belts checked out fine.
  • All brake linings were inspected and are like new.
  • All four electric door locks are functioning fine.
  • The button cap for the electric fuel door opener is missing but the fuel door can be manually operated with no problem.
  • The electric trunk release is working fine.
  • The exhaust system is solid and quiet and has passed inspection.

This car will provide comfortable and reliable transportation for years to come, or will be an excellent addition to a classic collection.  The Grand Marquis is the upmarket equivalent of the Ford Crown Victoria and there are still thousands of these cars on the American road.  New and used parts are plentiful and easily accessible if needed.  My father has owned three Crown Vic's and has always boasted of 25-27 mpg on the highway and 20+ mpg overall with this V8 engine.  Ride and comfort is remarkably smooth.

The car can be seen and test driven by appointment in Salisbury, MD.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!

Ringbrothers shows off Coyote-powered 1968 Mercury Cougar

Thu, Feb 25 2021

We'll openly admit that not every SEMA build is our cup of tea. But this? A tastefully resto-modded 1968 Mercury Cougar with a 460-horsepower Ford Mustang V8? Yeah, this is right in our wheelhouse. Sadly, there was no in-pwerson SEMA show in 2020, so we missed out on gems like this one. SEMA or no SEMA, the aftermarket carries on, and co-owners Jim and Mike Ring of Ringbrothers (get it?) saw no reason to let their time and effort go to waste.  When they're not building wild customs (see: 1,100-horsepower 1972 AMC Javelin AMX) or more subtle showcases (such as this Cougar or their 1971 K5 Chevy Blazer build from 2018), the folks at Ringbrothers crank out factory reproduction parts, whether for old-fashioned restoration or modification purposes. While '60s muscle cars are recurring build subjects for the two, the Cougar was the first of its kind they tackled.  Keeping it in the family, Ringbrothers sourced a Ford 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8 and a 10-Speed Automatic (lifted from an F-150 Raptor, incidentally) for the build. They didn't stop with the driveline, of course. The suspension was overhauled with a little help from DSE and a set of HRE Series C1 C103 Forged 3-Piece wheels were thrown over upgraded brakes.  "We put our heart into each car we build, and this Cougar is no exception," Jim said. "The finished product is mild and classy, yet any enthusiast instantly knows it's not stock. I imagine this is what Mercury designers would have come up with if they were building the Cougar today." "While we couldn't bring the car to the SEMA Show, we hope it can be shown to the public soon," Mike said. "We had never done a Cougar before, so this was a fun build. I love working with new shapes and coming up with new ideas." There's plenty to appreciate about this Cougar apart from the mechanicals, too. The finish is Augusta Green Metallic (courtesy of BASF), which was a factory color in 1968. You may know it by another name: Highland Green. There are a few custom exterior touches, but they're quite subtle and styled to be period-correct. The interior was also restored and updated, and it's where you'll find the only thing we're not fond of: that big, fat truck shifter. Gearbox choices notwithstanding, it's a bit of an eyesore. But considering how gorgeous the rest is, we'll give it a pass.  Related Video:

Kit Cat: Mercury Cougar makes perfect Bugatti Veyron substitute

Bugatti Veyron kit car - Click above for high-res image gallery
If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
