This vehicle is a true untouched survivor car. Purchased in the summer of 2011 from the original owner who had special ordered the car new from Castrucci Mercury in Cincinnati, OH in April 1978. Most of the mileage was accumulated driving to and from Florida and Ohio. The car has never been in snow, never been in an accident, never been smoked in and has been garaged it's entire life. The car is well equipped with full power (Steering, brakes, cruise, widows, seats, door locks, antenna) and everything works even the factory clock and rear window heater! Powered by Mercury's largest engine a 460 C.I. V8. The car has the original full vinyl top and the original silver paint shines like new. The interior is a dark red leather in perfect condition with no wear, tears or cracks anywhere. The rear seat was only used a few times, and the cigar/cig lighters still work! Original spare tire is still in the trunk with the factory markings and has never been taken out of its mount. The car also has the working original AM/FM stereo. The car was rustproofed by Mercury before it was delivered. Other than regular maintenance the only things that have been replaced are the tires and battery (approx 3 years ago) and the A/C was converted to 134A (still have original A/C compressor too). Also have the original books/manuals, factory build sheet, warranty card etc...This car is ready to go and can be driven anywhere. It has had excellent care and maintenance and I have tried to describe the condition to the best of my ability. As one would expect of a completely original 34 year old car there are some nicks and scratches from being driven over the years but the car is truly in amazing condition. The vehicle is being sold as-is with no warranty of any kind and I encourage any interested parties to ask questions and inspect the vehicle. Thank you for your interest. Have more photos if interested please email.

This car is amazing. It is so big and fun to drive, it literally feels like riding on a cloud down the street.

Dont hesitate to email with any questions.

The car is in Traverse City, Michigan at this time.

Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?

Fri, May 27 2016

When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
