Thanks for viewing my 1974 Mercury Cougar XR7 in brilliant silver and with the original red leather interior. The odometer is showing 60k miles and by the condition and mechanical smoothness of this car, we have to assume this is accurate. I have driven this car quite a bit recently and everything is working very nicely. The A/C kicks on like it should but blows ambient, so it may need a refresh, but all other items are working fantastically. She starts nicely, with the choke setting just as it should, and the transmission is silky smooth. The ride around town and up at highway speeds is just as it should be. The radio sounds very nice and all the gauges (including oil, temp and amp) are reading well. The body on this car is just stunning with that long Cougar hood and incredible silver color -- as the photos hopefully show -- and the interior is so impressively pristine you really need to stop by in person and check it out. You will not believe your eyes. The underbody is nice and clean, as is the engine bay and trunk. This just a really incredible car that wil make someone very proud to own. The motor is a 351 V8 OHV with a 2-barrel carb that is purrs contentedly at idle and with 275 fb of torque gets up and goes when you want it to. And with a good-sized 26 gal gas tank, you've got a generous running range for those long cruises to shows and weekend getaways. Ford Recalling 70k Escape and Mariner Hybrids for cooling issue
Fri, 12 Sep 2014Ford is recalling about 70,209 examples of the 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and the 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid because the cooling pumps for their hybrid systems could fail.
According to the company's defect notice, it's possible for the original "Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump" to wear out and fail, which would could cause the hybrid system to overheat. If this happens, the vehicle goes into a safety mode that takes away most or all of its power. However, braking and steering still operate normally. After cooling down, the affected models restart normally. The company says that it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford will begin repairing the vehicles in late October, and dealers will be installing improved, brushless pumps on the affected models at no charge to owners. If drivers had their pumps fail before this recall, they can contact Ford for a possible reimbursement. Ford recalling 126,000 Fusions and Milans over wheel separation concern
Fri, 09 Dec 2011Ford has announced a recall of certain Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A total of 128,616 2010 and 2011 models equipped with steel wheels may have been manufactured with wheel studs that could crack and split over time. If that happens, the vehicle may experience a wheel separation.
According to The Detroit News, the company is aware of a total of 30 wheel separation incidents, one of which occurred on the front of the vehicle. Even so, no injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
The problem apparently stems from the fact that the mounting pads on the vehicles' steel wheels may have been faulty from the factory. In addition, the wheel mounting face on rear disc brakes may not have been installed properly. Ford will inspect the rear disc face and replace them as necessary. Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15.
