  • I DO NOT WANT TO PART THIS CAR.  I WANT TO SELL IT AS IS.  IT IS MUCH MORE THAN WHAT IT SEEMS, READ ALL OF WHAT'S WRITTEN IN THIS AD, BECAUSE IF I HAVE TO PUT LABOR INTO PARTING IT OUT FOR ANYBODY, I'M GOING TO CHARGE 500.00 FOR ANY PART.  I DON'T CARE IF IT'S A QUARTER EXTENSION OR CUTTING OUT A REAR QUARTER PANEL.  IT WILL COST YOU 500 DOLLARS, BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO SELL THIS CAR AS A WHOLE, SO YOU'RE BETTER OFF BUYING THE WHOLE CAR, AND HAVING A DONOR CAR WITH EXTRA PARTS.  THAT'S SMARTER IN THE LONG RUN.  ALSO, MOST SHIPPING COMPANIES WILL GIVE ME A HASSLE WITH SHIPPING IF THEY CAN EVEN SHIP YOUR PART, AND THAT COST WILL BE EXTRA FOR YOU.  I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DELIVER  THIS CAR TO YOU FOR FREE IF YOU WIN IT, AND YOU'RE CLOSE ENOUGH.
  • THIS CAR HAS AN ORIGINAL 351 CLEVELAND ENGINE IN IT THAT TURNS.  IT CRANKS.  It has not been started in a few months, but it turned when I was working on it in October.
  • IN OCTOBER, I PUT ON THE ENGINE, A BRAND NEW HOLLEY 650 2V CARBURETOR (shown in photos)
  • ALL THE BODY PIECES FOR THE CAR ARE PRESENT.  When I FIRST bought it, there was not ONE mark on the car, only the surface rust shown in the photos.  It was sideswiped, during the first storm in NY this winter, while parked, during the snow, where I keep it garaged and work on it.  This is the reason why I'm selling it: because the damage I will have to eat, out of pocket, because the party responsible for the damage has fled.  If you're a body guy, have access to a shop, buddies in the industry, you've scored.  Because I'm selling this convertible CHEAP.
  • I AM SELLING A RUNNING CONVERTIBLE PROJECT WITH THE ENGINE AND TRANNY IN THE CAR.  The car is missing nearly ALL of the interior, except the driver's seat (I gutted out the interior because I have a complete interior that I was buying MINT from another guy I know, for 1500.00. SO, if you would like me to connect you with this gentleman, you will have an ENTIRE running car for under 3500.00.  I was going to paint it, where it is shown, before the damage occurred.
  • THE TOP MOTOR WORKS (The fuel lines for the hydraulic pumps I believe have frozen, or need fluid of some sort, but you can hear the top's motor on the pump cranking).
  • The ORIGINAL owner, lost the keys, so in order to start the car for me so I could drive it off his lot, he had to CUT the steering column where the ignition is, so you'll need a whole new steering column.  (This part can also be obtained from the individual I was getting the interior from).  I later found the original keys UNDER the back seat, while parting out the interior).  I have a few sets of keys now.
  • I have the Bill of Sale from the original owner (NOT the title, there is NO TITLE, but a title isn't needed in NYS: You apply for HISTORIC plates, with proof of historic car insurance at the dmv.  This is a FACT - EBAY REQUIRES YOU FILL OUT SOME SORT OF "DESCRIPTION" FOR THE TITLE, BUT THERE IS NO TITLE).
THIS CAR IS PRICED TO SELL AT 1925.00 DOLLARS. I AM VERY SERIOUS ABOUT THAT. If you would like to get around that price, message me.  I'm not taking trades, only cash. IT IS A PROJECT, and I am selling it at what it is worth = under 2000 dollars. You will have a very difficult time finding ANY convertible, that even has a MOTOR in it, for less than 2000.00.... even a cheap Chrysler Sebring or a Chevy Cavalier.

  • ALL ELECTRICS WORK. AIR CONDITION BLOWS AIR.
  • I HAVE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW STEEL FLOOR FROM MUSTANGS UNLIMITED FOR 200+ DOLLARS WHICH I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF INSTALLING/WELDING (SHOWN IN PHOTOS)
  • YOU WILL GET AN EXTRA STARTER FOR THIS CAR, THAT WAS NOT EVEN FOR THIS CAR, BUT BECAUSE IT'S IN THE PHOTOS I'LL THROW IT IN.
  • ALSO NOT PICTURED, BUT INCLUDED IS A BRAND NEW 800CCA INTERSTATE BATTERY.
  • IN ADDITION, THE TOP FOR THE CONVERTIBLE, I HAVE, (BUT IT IS BLUE IN COLOR) it does NOT have the window, so you'll have to buy that separate, LET ME KNOW IF YOU DON'T WANT THE TOP.
  • Other than that driver side damage, It is a CLEAN CAR all around, meaning: ALL LINES MATCH UP, ALL POINTS MEET, ALL DOOR HINGES OPEN AND CLOSE SMOOTH, AND THE DOORS ARE LINED UP WITH THE BODY WHEN CLOSED. SAME GOES FOR THE TRUNK AND THE HOOD. Look at the photos and the VIDEO clips.  The hood hinges need some oiling, but they DO MEET UP at the points.  EVERY SINGLE BODY PART IS THERE.  It is missing one fender emblem, and the trunk and hood emblems.
  • The milage shows 38,404 and it was elderly owned before I got it. Body-wise and interior it was COMPLETE.  There is rust on the car, obviously, and needs a new battery tray (which is included in the sale)

THIS IS A 7 DAY LISTING, FOR A CAR THAT IS A PROJECT CAR.  If you need it sooner, message me WITH A NAME, TIME OF AVAILABILITY, AND NUMBER.  YOU CANNOT DRIVE OFF THE LOT WITH IT- THE DRIVERS SEAT IS NOT BOLTED ON. IT CANNOT BE DRIVEN.  IT HAS BEEN SITTING AND YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK ON IT ELSEWHERE.

I CAN ALSO POSSIBLY HAVE IT TOWED FOR YOU WITHIN NYC FOR FREE if you contact me ahead of time.  THE CAR IS SOLD AS IS- AS A PROJECT CAR, THAT NEEDS TO BE RE-ASSEMBLED AND RESTORED.
I HAVE OFFICIAL BILL OF SALE PAPERS ON HAND TO FILL OUT.

THIS IS A DEAL FOR A CONVERTIBLE CLASSIC CAR WITH EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE PANELS AND 3 SEATS.  TIRES WILL BE INFLATED BEFORE IT DEPARTS FROM THE LOT.  IT IS PRICED TO SELL AT THE PRICE I LISTED IT FOR.  DO NOT "WATCH" THE AUCTION, INQUIRE, AND ACT FAST.  I DON'T EXPECT ANY MORE THAN 1925.00, BUT I WILL LET THE AUCTION RUN IF NOBODY SPEAKS UP.. THANK YOU.

EXTRA PHOTOS AND VIDEO CLIPS OF THE EXACT CAR YOU WILL GET (there is ONE more video, but for $1925, this ad is enough effort I believe)

Junkyard Gem: 1996 Nissan Quest XE with 338,549 miles

Sun, Jul 9 2023

When I hit the junkyard, I always look for vehicles with impressive final figures showing on their odometers. I find so many Hondas and Toyotas with better than 300,000 miles that I don't consider them especially noteworthy (the exception being super-low-spec cheap models, such as a Tercel or Civic VX), and it goes without saying that the bar is quite high for Mercedes-Benzes as well. It has been surprisingly difficult to find discarded Nissans that made it past the 300k mark; today's Junkyard Gem is just the fourth I've documented. The highest-mile junked Nissan I'd found prior to today's minivan is a 1994 Maxima with 364,238 miles, followed by a 1987 Maxima with 341,176 miles and a 1986 200SX with 309,222 miles. Keep in mind that Nissan didn't go to six-digit odometers on most of its US-market cars until the early 1980s, and then went to tough-to-read-in-the-junkyard electronic odometers in the early 2000s; this means the pool of potential high-mile Nissans is limited to about the 1983-2000 range of model years. Ford has just as much right to claim credit to this van's impressive mile total as does Nissan, since the Quest was a collaboration between Ford and Nissan that also produced the Mercury Villager; this van was built by Ford at the Ohio Assembly plant. The Quest/Villager platform was derived from the Maxima's, and the engine is pure Nissan: a 3.0-liter VG30 V6 rated at 151 horsepower. The only transmission available in the first-generation (1993-1999) Quest/Villager was a four-speed automatic. This one appears to have been sold new at Landrum Nissan in Pueblo. The rear glass has been painted flat black, possibly to keep prying eyes from seeing valuable cargo. The rear seats are long gone, so this van probably hauled cargo for much of its long life. The front interior seems to be in good shape. Why is this van here? There's body damage on the left rear and right front, suggesting a crash that may have bent the suspension past the worth-fixing threshold. Perhaps the crinkled metal just made this van too unsightly, or maybe some powertrain problem was the culprit. This content is hosted by a third party. Junkyard Gem: 1977 Mercury Bobcat

Tue, Sep 4 2018

Cultural memory of the Ford Pinto, 38 years after the last new ones were sold, boils down to one thing today: the notorious "exploding Pinto" stories of the late 1970s. Yes, many Pinto jokes were told, the resale value of Pintos crashed, and few paid any attention to the fact that most of the cars sold with the fuel tank between the rear axle and the bumper — that is, just about every Detroit car made during the era — suffered from the same weakness. The Mercury version of the Pinto was badged as the Bobcat, but nobody told Bobcat jokes. Here's a '77 Mercury Bobcat 3-Door in vivid Medium Jade paint, spotted in a Denver self-service yard. The Pinto with glass rear hatch was known as the Pinto Runabout in 1977, while Mercury called this car the " Bobcat 3-door with Glass Third Door." When a car sits for years or decades in High Plains Colorado, rodents tend to nest in it. This Bobcat's air cleaner made a cozy home for our Hantavirus-carrying friends. The 1970s were the last gasp for eye-searingly green vinyl car interiors. Since the Bobcat was a luxed-up Pinto, the door panels have shinier trim than what you'd have had in a proletariat-grade Pinto. Pinto/Bobcat transmission choices boiled down to two: a four-speed manual or a three-speed automatic. Unusually for a Malaise Era Mercury, this one has the manual. Most Pintos and Bobcats came with four-cylinder engines, ranging from the 1.6-liter pushrod Kent to the 2.3-liter engine that lived on for many post-Pinto years in Ford Rangers. This car has the 2.3, rated at 89 horsepower, but the same 2.8-liter Cologne V6 that powered the Capri was available as an option in the Bobcat. That engine made a mighty 93 horsepower. These cars were not too miserable to drive by econobox standards of their time, at least when they had three pedals. You'd blow the doors off a '77 Corolla with a 4-speed Bobcat in a drag race, though the Corolla got better fuel economy. This content is hosted by a third party. Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Sat, Jan 21 2023

Ford's now-defunct Mercury Division first began using the Marquis name in 1967, on a sporty full-size hardtop based on the Ford LTD, then began offering the Grand Marquis beginning in the 1979 model year. These big, boxy luxury sedans were replaced by big, curvy luxury sedans (on the same platform) starting with the 1992 model year, so today's Junkyard Gem is one of the very last squared-off Grand Marquises ever built. The 1991 Grand Marquis (or "Grandma Keith," as many refer to it today) looks nearly identical to its 1979 predecessor at a glance, just as the 2011 model doesn't differ much from the 1992 model. Ford saw no reason to follow short-lived fashion trends with its simple, sturdy rear-wheel-drive sedan. Only two Grand Marquis trim levels were available for 1991: the base GS and the (somewhat) upscale LS. The former listed at $18,741 and the latter at $19,241, which comes to about $41,494 and $42,601, respectively, in inflated 2022 dollars). This interior would have seemed comfortingly familiar to a 1968 (or even 1958) Mercury owner time-traveling to 1991.  This is the optional "full grain leather seating surface," which cost an extra $489 (about $1,083 today). Dig those opera lights! Air conditioning was standard equipment in the 1991 Grand Marquis and its wagon counterpart, the Colony Park. The engine is the good old pushrod 5.0-liter Windsor V8, which would be replaced by a far more modern 4.6-liter SOHC mill in the '92 Grand Marquis. This engine was rated at 180 horsepower. A four-speed automatic was the only transmission available. The early 1990s ended up being the last gasp for padded vinyl roofs being considered mainstream equipment on new Detroit cars; this one was called the "Formal Coach" roof and cost an additional 725 bucks ($1,605 now). Such roofs were still available on a few cars later in the decade, but their time had passed. Why would such a clean Grandma Keith end up in a place like this? That's easy: it got T-boned directly into the right front wheel, mangling the body and bending up the suspension. This damage might have been worth fixing when the car was five years old, but it's a write-off when it happens to a 31-year-old Ford Panther. 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis Commercial - Savings Ad The granddaddy of them all, and on sale in South Texas!
