The unverified story goes that there were 3 of these 1988 Mecury Cougars Flyers Editions made. 1- For an extremely talented goalie Ron Hextall for becoming the first NHL goalie to score a goal by shooting the puck in the netl. 1- For the Philadelphia Flyers Organization and 1- For a fan. Ron Hextall does make mention of the car being presented to him here http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=647087   I have not been able to verify if the number made is true or if this is the one that was presented to Ron Hextall.  I myself love the Flyers and also love cars so I had purchased the car in the hopes of restoring it. I purchased it almost a year ago and began the restoration but have to many projects and have had to push this to the side. I am realizing that I just wont be able to get to it so somebody else should enjoy it. You will see in the pics first how the car looked when I purchased it from the previous owner who was actually my brother another big Flyers fan.  Although the car had a nice shine in the those pics I had just helped him detail it.. The car itself is very restoreable and the body is surprisingly solid. I have removed the imitation convertible top due to a serious amount of mold and fading. You can see in the last pic the car in its state now and you can make out the silicon that was leftover after the top was removed. I have saved the swatches with the Flyers embroidery on them. I began removing some of the striping and decals. The plan was not a 100 percent restoration but to have the Flyers emblems and the Flyers Orange striping redone. In the pics you will be able to see how far I have got (Which is not far enough)  The car does need inspection and does have a quick connect at the battery due to a drain that I have not tried to locate yet. It is suspected that the drain is coming from the radio. I will answer any questions you have to the best of my ability and as quickly as possible.  At auctions end I will require a $500 dollar deposit through paypal. To complete the sale I will require a cash payment and we will go to the local notary to change the title over. Thank you for looking.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

Mercury rises around sexy Cougar pack

Sat, May 30 2015

With a slightly larger body and a more luxurious interior, the Mercury Cougar doesn't carry quite as much cachet among pony car enthusiasts as the venerable Ford Mustang. But don't try to make that argument around Cougar super-fan Mike Brown. Since starting his Cougar collecting in 1988, Brown has become an absolute expert on the model, and he claims to have owned 400 of the Mercury pony cars in that time. Ten of them are in his collection today, not to mention a heap of spare parts in the garage. Check out some of the rarer members of Brown's fleet and allow him to tell you about them in this interesting interview from Electric Federal.

Icon and Stealth EV are building an electric Derelict Mercury

Mon, May 14 2018

Icon, a company known for its high-quality restomod vehicles, is building another Derelict, this one a 1949 Mercury coupe. While the fact Icon is building another one of its sleeper hot rods with patina isn't the most shocking, what's under the hood is. The company has teamed up with Stealth EV to turn this latest Derelict into an electric car. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The car was shown in the above Twitter post with video. The exterior is just what you'd expect from an Icon Derelict. It's solid but with a weathered finish. And even as the guy from Stealth EV approaches the car, it looks like it has a V8 under the hood. But as he explains, there's actually the two motor controllers and half of a Tesla battery pack under there. It's just that they've all been given some classy looking metal casings and mounted to look like a V8. Apparently the motors themselves are in the transmission tunnel. The Stealth EV rep says it uses a pair of AM Racing motors. Depending on which motor controllers the companies are using, those motors could produce as much as 700 horsepower. Power will go to the rear wheels and no transmission will be used, making it direct drive. It will have a limited-slip differential, and the whole car sits on an Art Morrison chassis with independent suspension. This actually isn't the first electric Icon, nor the first developed with Stealth EV. Before this, the companies created a totally awesome electric Volkswagen Thing. That little truck made much less power at 180 horses, but it was also a way smaller and lighter vehicle. Related Video:
