1977 Mercury Cougar XR7 - Overall Excellent Condition with Very Low Miles
This car is a time capsule (36 years old) in beautiful brown with matching vinyl top and hounds tooth (brown and white) interior. It features the distinct styling (new for 1977) and the 351 V8 auto transmission. The car is extremely clean and the odometer shows 3500 miles. I believe that this could either be 3500 original miles or 103500 - based upon condition of the car and paperwork, I think it is 3500.. But I have paperwork that shows new tires in June 2007 with 1,942 miles. So either way, this car has not been driven much. The previous owner was elderly and said it was used mostly for car shows. Comes with original owners manual, sales brochures and some paperwork (such as the new tires purchased in 2007 about 1,500 miles ago).
I took many pictures because I wanted to show all potential buyers everything about the car. There is no rust, dents or dings anywhere on the car - even the pinstripe is in very good condition. If you have any questions or would like to see the car (it is located in Central Oregon), please call me at 541.390.0456. Would like to keep, but need money for other projects.
Everything about the car is in near perfect and showroom condition, with several exceptions (as shown in the pictures). These are: clock stopped working, light stain on driver seat (it looks more like a dark shadow, but I have not tried to clean it), light scratches (three on the trunk lid where a garage light bulb fell), small cracked plastic in the back seat above each back window. Other than that, everything on the car is in perfect working condition and looks great. All of the glass is also in perfect condition. The tires have very low miles on them (about 1,500) and the wheels still shine like new. The pictures show everything, including the tires and all trim. Call if you have any questions.
Even up very close, the car is beautiful and has been maintained very well. It drives very smooth and quiet. Everything except the items mentioned above are flawless. The car has been checked by a mechanic and found to be very sound. I would personally drive this car anywhere and it is a perfect example of a 1970s luxury car, except it does not have the power items such as windows, door locks or seats, which are prone to not working.
The reserve and buy it now price on the car is low and it will only appreciate in value being in excellent condition with low miles.
Clean title in hand with Oregon classic plates good until 2015. Winning bidder must pickup or pay for transportation. A deposit of $500 is due within 24 hours of wining the auction or buying the car. Please call me at 541.390.0456 before bidding if you have any questions. Will accept PayPal or cash in person only and will not arrange for shipping. Buyer is responsible for shipping. Vehicle being sold as-is with no warranty.

Preposed class-action lawsuit targets 'defective' MyFord Touch
Tue, 16 Jul 2013A national law firm, Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, has filed a proposed class action lawsuit whose presupposition is that MyFord Touch is defective. Specifically, the complaint states that the system - as well as the MyLincoln Touch and MyMercury Touch clones - often freeze, fail to respond to voice or touch commands and have issues connecting to mobile phones.
According to Hagens Berman managing partner Steve Berman, MyFord Touch is a theoretically "brilliant idea" that falls short in actual execution. Said Berman in a press release, "In reality, the system is fundamentally flawed, failing to reliably provide functionality, amounting to an inconvenience at best, and a serious safety issue at worst."
Other MFT issues enumerated within the 41-page filing include problems controlling the window defroster, rear-view camera and navigation system. The suit maintains that Ford is aware of the problem but has yet to submit a workable and acceptable solution to MFT customers. Scroll down if you'd like to read the full press release.
Ford recalls 382k vehicles across six campaigns
Wed, Sep 30 2015Ford needs to repair a total of 381,633 vehicles in North America across six newly announced campaigns, including five safety recalls and one compliance recall. By far the largest of these campaigns covers the 342,271 examples of the 1998-2003 Windstar to double check an earlier recall repair. Among these, 283,413 are in the US and 58,858 are in Canada. The combination of corrosion and stress can cause cracks in the rear axle and eventually lead to the part to snap completely. The company reports a small number of accidents might be connected to this, but there are no injuries. The minivans were recalled for this issue back in 2010, and it was investigated by NHTSA. According to Ford's latest announcement, the reinforcement brackets on some of these models might not have been installed correctly. This time, dealers will perform an inspection. Minivans with incorrectly installed brackets will get a new rear axle. The rest of the owners will be offered a deal to replace the part at a reduced cost. The next largest campaign covers 36,857 examples of the 2015 F-150 to fix a problem with the adaptive cruise control. Specifically, there are 33,481 affected trucks in the US, and 3,376 in Canada. According to Ford, "when passing a large, highly reflective truck" the radar in the system can misidentify a semi as being in the same lane as the pickup. The collision warning system would then activate, slowing the F-150. There's one report of an accident with this happening but no injuries. The fix is simply an update to the adaptive cruise control module software. Ford also has a recall for 1,477 examples of its 2016 F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis models, and they're all located in the US. A manufacturing issue might allow the trucks to shift into reverse without the driver first applying the brakes. There are no reports of any accidents from this, though. To repair the problem, the models get a new transmission shift control bracket and an adjustment to the shift cable. The Blue Oval's safety compliance recall covers 708 examples of the 2016 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, including 658 of them in the US, 28 in Canada, and 22 in Mexico. On these models, a manufacturing problem with the fuel tank could allow it to crack in a crash, which isn't allowed under federal rules. There are no reports of accidents, injuries or fires. The fix will be a new fuel tank for all of them. The company is also repairing 251 units of the 2015 Taurus and Lincoln MKS, plus the 2016 Explorer.
Junkyard Gem: 1995 Mercury Tracer Trio
Sat, Feb 5 2022With the rise of Radwood, cars with exaggerated characteristics associated with the 1980s and 1990s are cool again. That means some combination of pastel and/or neon colors, squiggly squeezed-from-toothpaste-tube graphics, nonfunctional decklid spoilers, giant TURBO badging, and kicky youth-centric nomenclature are required if you want your wheels to be considered in compliance with the sacred tenets of Radism. I do my best to find rad machinery while crawling around in car graveyards, and since I came of driving age in 1982 I know a bit about the subject. Today's rare Junkyard Gem shows us the Mercury Division's belated attempt to sell fun cars to rad-leaning youngsters: a Tracer Trio, found in a Denver yard a few weeks back. The Trio package added 310 bucks to the cost of the $11,280 base Tracer sedan (that's about $575 on a $20,925 car in 2022 dollars), and it got the hip-and-trendy young buyer a leather-wrapped steering wheel, seven-spoke wheels, a decklid spoiler and these rad fender badges. I'm going to say that the much louder graphics and candy-cane-colored displacement badges on the Pontiac Sunbird W25 out-radded the Tracer Trio by a mile, but then Pontiac generally out-radded everyone in those days. Even Plymouth got into the act with such radness as the Breeze Expresso and Sundance Duster (we'll overlook the anti-rad Horizon Miser here). Perhaps tellingly, Mercury, Pontiac and Plymouth all got the "Old Yeller" treatment not long after the Rad Era ended. The Tracer name always went on Mercuries built on Mazda platforms, starting with the Australia-built, Ford Laser-based 1987-1989 cars and then continuing with Mexico-assembled, Ford Escort-based 1991-1996 cars. That generation of Escort/Tracer was mechanical twins with the Mazda Protege, itself the bridge between the 323 and the Mazda3. Some Tracers got the a 1.8-liter Mazda engine that was related to the Miata's engine, but this one has the pure-Detroit CVH 1.9. You're looking at 88 horsepower right here; the Mazda 1.8 offered 127 horses. At least the original buyer of this car got the base five-speed manual transmission instead of forking over $815 extra (about $1,510 today) for the four-speed slushbox. As a 29-year-old slacker living in San Francisco's Mission District and driving a hooptie '65 Chevy Impala sedan at the time, I would have taken the manual transmission without the Trio package, had I been forced to buy a new Tracer.
