San Antonio, Texas, United States

I have a 1973 Mercury Cougar XR 7 Convertible in good solid condition for your consideration. The car runs great I just had it out on the freeway and drove solid for 50 miles at 75mph. The tranny shifts out nice it is newly professionally rebuilt. The 351 Cleveland engine power packed. The power top motor just went out. The previous owner did redo the interior and it is very nice so is the carpet. The floor of the the trunk is solid(see pics). The top is new.....the paint is NEW! The chrome is very good(see pics) and all the glass is intact and not cracked. The body one small rust bubble on the passenger door. The underside of the car is solid, floor pans are solid. The car has no fluid leaks at all. Here is what I have done:

1. Replaced drivers side rear tail light lens very rare to find in this nice shape.

2. Replaced radio with 8 track player that works, people love to hear it play

3. Tranny is newly rebuilt in August.

4. New rear axle seals with pinion seal

5. Replaced hood ornament

5. Blinkers now work but not sequentially

6. Brake lights did not work now they do.

7. Convertible release handle is new.

8. Fuel gauge is not working, all others do.

9. New trunk lock

10. New lower radiator hose.

11. Carb is new

12. Battery is new

13. Coil is new

14. Brand new paint

15 All the lights work.

So look at my pics and ask me any questions. Buyer is responsible for pick up. I have a great shipper if you need him. Call me at 210-842-1447. There are no warranties and I have described as best as I can. Opinions vary and mine is one of a non-purist, non-perfectionist. So do not bid if you are a purist. Bid if you want a good car to keep for years to come. The car is for sale locally so I can end this auction at any time. I have added new pictures from underneath the car and the trunk and the body and panel gauges. You can see the car is pretty solid underneath as is the body. This is the Base model, you can install AC very easily to the pulleys and mount a compressor. I have a set of headers that will go to the buyer. FMX tranny is good to go.

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.

Has the Mercury Marauder gotten better with age?

Fri, Oct 23 2015

In the early 2000s Mercury desperately wanted to develop some edge for its brand – seemingly stuck between a quasi-premium, quasi-performance space in the Ford Universe. The Marauder is perhaps the most famous of the vehicles that resulted from those efforts, and is rapidly approaching Modern Classic status, today. Effectively a murdered out Grand Marquis with some updated trim pieces – what are company parts bins for, if not raiding? – the Marauder looked convincingly like a bad guy car. The 4.6-liter V8 under its hood that had been breathed on by engineers for a little more power, kicking out 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque from the factory. Not exactly Ferrari-baiting numbers, but it'd give your local cop's car a run for its money. Being a wild child of the last decade, of course our friends at MotorWeek had it on the program. What better way to test your mean-mugging muscle sedan than with John Davis' tanned and steady hands?

Does Lincoln Zephyr trademark mean a return to real names?

Wed, May 25 2016

Lincoln's long history includes many legendary names, and despite its short life, Zephyr retains a spot in that pantheon. Perhaps its will return once again: Ford Motor Co. applied to trademark Zephyr on May 11. Trademark filings can have ambiguous meanings, and often they're legal plays to get or keep the rights to a name. But in the last year, we've seen signs Lincoln is looking to use real names on its vehicles again. Obviously, it's keeping Navigator for its flagship sport-utility vehicle with a new model due next year. Reprising Continental for the MKS replacement was also well received. That said, Lincoln still uses the MKX and MKC "names" for its crossovers. Zephyr is a dustier moniker. It was used in the 1930s and '40s on a mid-level model spearheaded by Edsel Ford. The stylishly aerodynamic model was set between the Ford V8 De Luxe and more expensive Lincolns. It returned in 2006 as the Lincoln version of the Ford Fusion before that model was renamed MKZ. Mercury also used Zephyr on its version of the Ford Fairmont in the late 1970s and early '80s. Ford last held a trademark on the Zephyr name in 2013. The filing says Ford seeks to use Zephyr for "motor vehicles and parts and accessories therefor." That could mean a new car — or just parts. Putting the Zephyr badge back on the MKZ is the most likely bet. Meanwhile, Ford also moved to get the Thunderbird trademark on May 11 for the same vehicles and parts purpose, and it filed for the Mustang trademark for shampoo and lotions on May 4. A Lincoln spokesman said, "In the normal course of our business, we file trademarks for names," but had no further information. Related Video:
