I AM SELLING MY 69 COUGAR XR7 CONVERTIBLE THATS ALMOST FINISHED JUST RAN OUT OF MONEY AND SOME PERSONAL THINGS THAT IS CAUSING ME TO GET RIDE OF IT. IT IS 95% FINISHED JUST SOME MINOR PIECES LEFT TO GET THAT I WILL LIST AT THE END. THE ENGINE WAS REBUILT 1.5 YEARS AGO AND ONLY HAS 25 MILES ON IT WITH NEW CAMS, ROLLING ROCKERS, PERFORMANCE INTAKE AND NEW EDLEBROCK PERFORMANCE CARB, HEADERS, NEW FULL EXHAUST WITH FLOW MASTERS, NEW UPHOLSTERED BACK SEATS, BRAND NEW STAGERED A/R WHEELS AND TIRES, FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS RE CHROMED, REAR LIGHT BEZELS RE CHROMED, FRONT GRILL RE FINISHED, POLISHED AND PAINTED, THE WHOLE UNDER CARRIAGE AND TRUNK WAS SAND BLASTED, PRIMED AND UNDERCOATED. MANY EXTRA PARTS COME WITH IT AS WELL. Translogic drives wood-burning Mercury Beaver XR-7
Sun, 31 Jul 2011You read the title right, we're talking about the Mercury Beaver XR-7. No, Mercury never officially built a car called the beaver. This is the brainchild of upstate New Yorker Chip Beam, who owns and operates Beaver Energy, LLC. It runs on gases created by wood pellets fermented in a 2,400-degree furnace and fed to a supercharged Ford 4.6-liter V8.
By all accounts, it gets down the road just fine, and has pretty close to full power. The best part is, you can grow the fuel yourself and avoid patronizing big oil, if that's your thing. The only drawback that we can see to the Mercury Beaver XR-7 is the PVC pipe jungle occupying the space that would be the trunk under normal circumstances.
Still, if you're willing to smell like a mountain man and look like a bad Back to the Future knockoff, this ride is right up your alley. Click past the jump to see Translogic's take on this modified Merc.

Fri, Jan 29 2016Just in time for this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the new Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 on the Xbox One lets you slip into the driver's seat of last year's winner. If you want to take something much weirder for a spin, the collection also includes a 2005 Pontiac Aztek. The download is available now for $6.99. The Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona was in a four-car battle early in last year's race, but it eventually was victorious. Forza Motorsport 6 also challenges drivers who download the car to a new Rivals event around Daytona, and the fastest people could win Alpinestars prizes. If you're nostalgic for a classic Daytona racecar, this pack includes Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7. The V8-powered beast won the IMSA GTO class in the 24-hour event in 1990. It should be fun around the game's longer road courses like Road Atlanta. This collection also has an eclectic mix of vehicles that aren't racecars. Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage
Mon, 03 Jan 2011The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.
