1969 Mercury Cougar Xr-7, Eliminator Clone, Runs Great, Very Solid! Not Mustang on 2040-cars
Piedmont, South Carolina, United States
Thanks for checking out this cool ride offered by M.E.S. Motorsports; where our cars are notorious for Making Everyone Stare! What we have for sale here is a very solid and great running 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7. Just turn the key and go in this one! If you are in the market for one of these then don't let this one pass you by! History – We picked this up from a local guy that had spent a lot of time and money on it but had just lost interest. Southern car so rust is not really an issue. Drive train – Original 351 Windsor that runs really strong. Mileage shows 58,000 and believed to be original. 3 speed automatic transmission. Power steering, power brakes, factory AC. It was leaking power steering fluid when we got it so we had the control valve and cylinder rebuilt. Changed the oil and checked all the other fluids. The AC has been upgraded as well and blows ice cold! Exterior – The car was repainted a gloss black by the previous owner and looks to be a nice job overall. Paint is not perfect but shows very well and has a nice shine to it. He put a custom white stripe down the side which looks cool. Eliminator style hood and wing really set the exterior off. Underneath - Very solid and clean. Only rust noted is a small spot on the bottom of the drivers quarter. Interior – Very clean interior that has been converted to black. Some minimal signs of wear but in overall great shape. Wheels/tires – Stock Rallye wheels with 3 matching tires and one odd ball. Known issues – Small rust spot in rear quarter, could use new battery tray, vacuum leak for hideaway headlights. Title - Clean SC open title. About us - M.E.S. Motorsports, LLC was founded and started by myself and my best friend of almost 30 years now. While M.E.S. was “officially” put into action around 2012, it really started back in the 90’s during our high school days. Even back then we were in each other’s garage every weekend working on our cars. We have always shared the same enthusiasm for that one thing…..Automobiles! Hot rods, classics, customs, sports cars, fast cars, loud cars, basically anything with 4 wheels and an engine. For as long as I can remember we’ve always enjoyed “playing” with cars and recently decided to share our passion and creativity with others and thus M.E.S. Motorsports, LLC was officially launched . At this time we are not licensed car dealers but rather auto enthusiasts with a passion for buying and selling cars to and from other auto enthusiasts and collectors. Our goal is to sell cars that you can actually get into and drive anywhere! We believe that cars are actually meant to be driven on the road and not just stored. A lot of the cars that we find are from individuals who are simply not using them anymore or that started restoring them but never finished. Some cars may just need some cleaning and a tune up while other may need paint or finish work. Whatever the case is, we try to address any issues and get them road worthy. We hate to see any car just sitting, rotting or not being used. We believe that everyone out there should have the car of their dreams and that they should be able to drive it anywhere they want to go! eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Marauder two-door convertible
Wed, 31 Aug 2011Never underestimate what you'll see on eBay Motors. Take this unique creation, for example. Near as we can tell, it's the same 2002 Mercury Marauder that was modified into a two-door convertible by Ford for the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. According to the seller, this car still boasts its Eaton supercharger bolted to a 4.6-liter V8 engine, and at the time of its debut, the engine was rated at a lofty 335 horsepower. We have a hard time believing that the extra ponies would do much to offset the weight of the additional frame stiffeners and top mechanism on the car, however.
The vehicle is currently offered for sale by a dealer in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, though the listing is mum on how the convertible managed to make its way from Ford's Windy City show stand into the seller's inventory. If you like what you see, the machine can be yours for the princely sum of $75,000 or best offer. Head over to eBay Motors to take a gander at the listing.
Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?
Fri, May 27 2016When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Junkyard Gem: 1973 Mercury Marquis Brougham 4-Door Pillared Hardtop
Tue, Nov 7 2023Ford's Mercury Division debuted the Marquis in the 1967 model year, as a sporty coupe based on a stretched Ford LTD chassis. When the LTD got an update for 1969, so did the Marquis, and production of that generation of the top-of-the-line Mercury continued through 1978 (the Grand Marquis hit streets the following year). The 1969-1978 Marquis was a big, imposing land yacht, and the Brougham version came absolutely loaded with affordable luxury. Today's Junkyard Gem is a Marquis Brougham from the first year of the Malaise Era, found in a Phoenix self-service car graveyard recently. This car appears to have spent decades sitting outdoors in one of the harshest climates in the country, and so it's in rough shape. The vinyl top received the full thermonuclear treatment and is mostly obliterated by now. The interior got thoroughly cooked as well. Still, its original opulence shines through if you use some imagination. What hurts is that this car was packed with most of the good options, including the mighty 460-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 engine with four-barrel carburetor. The price for the 460 was just $76 in this car, or around $548 in today's money. The base engine was a 429 (7.0-liter). Power numbers were way down for 1973 when compared to a couple of years earlier, partly as the result of tightening emissions standards but mostly due to the switch from gross to net power ratings that began midway during 1971 and was completed by the end of 1972. This engine was rated at 202 horsepower and 330 pound-feet. The only transmission available was a three-speed automatic. We can assume that the original buyer of this car and its single-digit fuel economy had a rough time when the OPEC oil embargo hit in the fall of 1973. Believe it or not, air conditioning was not standard equipment on the '73 Marquis Brougham (you had to move up to a Lincoln for that). This one even has the automatic temperature control feature, adding a total of $508 to the cost of this car (about $3,661 in 2023 dollars). That AM/FM/8-track radio—or, in fact, any radio—was an extra-cost option as well, with a price tag of $363 ($2,616 after inflation). The MSRP for the 1973 Marquis Brougham sedan (known as a "pillared hardtop" thanks to the frameless window glass) was $5,072, which comes to $36,555 in today's dollars. Obviously, its out-the-door cost would have been much higher with all the options.
