1968 Mercury Cougar 302 V8 4 speed manual. I have owned this car since 2011, I have the clean clear Pennsylvania title in my name and ready for immediate transfer. The odometer is a 5 digit odometer and reads 35xxx, To the best of my knowledge actual mileage it is 135xxx, I purchased the cougar from a gentleman in Ohio. He had the car built in the early 1990's by his good friend who worked as a local racing engine builder(in Ohio). So the 302 with a holley 4 barrel carb and weiand intake manifold under the hood is very strong good running engine. Sorry I don't know the engine specs but it runs great, and always starts right up. The 4.10 gears in the rear and the 4 speed manual transmission make for a fun drive. Flowmaster mufflers, Hedman headers, Accel coil and distributer. Mercury cougar embossed valve covers. The previous owner had a new flywheel, clutch, starter installed and had the gear box redone(I am pretty sure it is a hurst transmission) All this was done in 2007. The car has new Magnum 500 wheels with the Mercury man center caps and new tires on the car. Rear are 16" and fronts 15". The cars sequential turn signals in the rear work great with updated electronics recently installed. Have two sets of the original electronics. The hidden headlamp doors also work excellent. In 2012 a new aluminum radiator and edelbrock water pump were installed on the car. The car looks good, has small surface rust bubbles on the front of the left fender and on the rear deck lid real small spots(They are the exact same size as when I bought the car in 2011) Some small paint peeling on the quarter panel as well(never changed size or worsened since I purchased he car) There was a small aftermarket spoiler on the deck lid when I got the car and I took it off(wanted the original look), there is a photo of the black rubber plugs I have used to block the small mounting holes. The all black interior is in excellent condition. original rear seat, fronts were recovered in the early 90's when the car was rebuilt. The cougar sports deluxe door trim panels. Also have the cougar floor mats in the car I have found them as reproductions and they look great. Heater works, Car originally had ac, but there is no compressor. Kenwood cd player that is I pod ready along with alpine speakers front and rear in the car, I never turn the radio on, I personally enjoy the sound of the 302 under the hood!! The vinyl top is in excellent condition, the paint is average for a car that was painted in the early 1990's, pretty straight with no dents or dings this is a great 10 footer. Paint shines nice, but not a high end paint job. This is a solid great running Mercury Cougar! I can supply you with any additional photos you may need. I have shop manuals for the car and a reproduction owners manual. She is a great looking car and runs great with the lower gearing, however it is not a highway cruiser. Stored under cover in a heated garage. The Cougar is ready to drive with no work needed Wouldn't take much to make a perfect show car, right now it is a very nice driver!! It is a real head turner. Ford recalling 126,000 Fusions and Milans over wheel separation concern
Fri, 09 Dec 2011Ford has announced a recall of certain Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A total of 128,616 2010 and 2011 models equipped with steel wheels may have been manufactured with wheel studs that could crack and split over time. If that happens, the vehicle may experience a wheel separation.
According to The Detroit News, the company is aware of a total of 30 wheel separation incidents, one of which occurred on the front of the vehicle. Even so, no injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
The problem apparently stems from the fact that the mounting pads on the vehicles' steel wheels may have been faulty from the factory. In addition, the wheel mounting face on rear disc brakes may not have been installed properly. Ford will inspect the rear disc face and replace them as necessary. In addition, the company will replace all of the vehicle's wheel studs free of charge. Head to the NHTSA website for more information, and click past the jump to view the full recall notice.
Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage
Mon, 03 Jan 2011The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

Junkyard Gem: 1955 Mercury Montclair Coupe
Wed, Jul 20 2022I find plenty of 1950s Detroit vehicles in the big self-service car graveyards I frequent, but most of them are fairly ordinary sedans that never stood much chance of getting fixed up and put back on the road. Such is not the case with today's Junkyard Gem, which is a top-trim-level, heavily optioned hardtop coupe from one of the most desirable model years of the tailfins-and-chrome postwar era. Nearly every Mercury model ever made was a Ford model with some cosmetic changes applied, and the '55s looked very similar to their mechanically identical Ford brethren. In 1955, the new Mercury came in three trim levels: the entry-level Custom, the medium-zoot Monterey, and the glitzy Montclair. Each was available as a hardtop coupe and four-door sedan, with wagon versions of the Custom and Monterey. The Montclair could be purchased as a convertible or with the wild "Sun Valley" glass roof. The Montclair got its own line of hallucinogenic two-tone interiors, in order to make the daily lives of Europeans feel even more gray and penurious (the UK only dropped food rationing in 1954, and the two Germanies were still clearing the rubble of their blown-up cities). This car's upholstery has been bleached by decades of sitting outside in the harsh High Plains climate, but it started out as vivid red and white "Chromatex" fabric. The list price on this car was $2,631, or about $29,200 in 2022 dollars. The Sun Valley and convertible Montclair each cost $2,712 ($30,100 today). Ford didn't offer a corresponding hardtop coupe in 1955, though the Fairlane Crown Victoria two-door did look extremely snazzy (and cost a mere $2,302— $25,545 now— with the same V8 engine as the Monterey). Meanwhile, Oldsmobile offered the handsome 88 Super Holiday Coupe for $2,714, though the Montclair had the more powerful engine. Oldsmobile had been selling new cars with overhead-valve V8s since the 1949 model year, while Ford didn't ditch the Model A-era flathead V8 for new U.S.-market cars until the 1954 model year (you could buy a new Simca Esplanada in Brazil with an Ardun-headed Ford V8-60 all the way until 1969). GM's Chevrolet Division got all the press in 1955 with the introduction of the brand-new small-block V8 engine, but Ford's 292-cubic-inch (4.8-liter) Y-Block V8 made more power than the 265-cube (4.3-liter) Chevy and the 324ci Olds Rocket 88.
