1968 Mercury Cougar 302 Maroon Automatic Excellent Condition Show And Go on 2040-cars
Beachwood, Ohio, United States
1968 Cougar, numbers matching, 302 four valve four barrel carb, automatic, air, power steering, power front disc brakes, stainless dual performance exhaust, like new interior including XR7 opera lights, working original am/fm radio.
I am the third owner of the car. It was purchased new in California in late 1968. Within a year the original owner installed the American Racing wheels that are still on the car and have been for 45 years. He had the car for most of its life. The next owner rarely drove the car but made good investments into its upkeep including new paint and some interior work. I have owned the car for a couple of years. All of the projects are now complete. The car is ready for the next owner to enjoy. Here is a breakdown of work completed and the condition of the car. The car is rust free. The only issue was the front passenger floor. A small hole in the firewall allowed water to accumulate under the carpet. When the carpet was replaced the issue was discovered and repaired. There is no bondo on the car. The paint is very good and was made better. A professional shop repainted the threshold areas, inside of the doors, underside of hood and trunk. Dash was also repainted. Rear bumper was rechromed. Passenger side mirror installed and opera ligts installed. Dynamat sound deadening was installed on floor, in trunk and inside doors. New carpet installed. New speakers and wire installed. The original AM/FM radio works great. A previous owner installed speakers in the door panels. While I replaced them, I never would have cut the panel for speakers. I acquired another set of matching door panels which you can swap out if you choose. New trunk mat, tire cover, board inserts and tool bag in the trunk along with original jack. The air conditioning system was completely replumbed and converted to modern materials. It works perfectly. Front end is new, oil pan is too. Front disk brakes and rear drums are new. Battery, plugs, ignition wires, cap etc all recently replaced. A new Holly carb was installed and performance has never been better. The original carb comes with the car. The car starts immediately and runs beautifully. It needs nothing. I welcome your questions. |

Kit Cat: Mercury Cougar makes perfect Bugatti Veyron substitute
Thu, 24 Feb 2011Bugatti Veyron kit car - Click above for high-res image gallery
If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes
Thu, 10 May 2012When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
Auto Show Notebook: Legendary Continental name inspired Lincoln's designers
Thu, Apr 2 2015What's in a name? A lot for the Continental concept, and it gave Lincoln designers a sense of purpose as they styled the brand's upcoming flagship sedan. "The moment that we told them, it was amazing," Lincoln president Kumar Galhotra said. "They totally got it." "It" is cutting-edge technology wrapped in stately, large-sedan design. It's a nod to Lincoln's storied past, but a signpost for where the brand is heading. Though the Continental name dates to the late 1930s, Lincoln designers avoided making the concept overtly retro. "You can't let it pull yourself back too far in history, but you've got to design a car that lives up to the name," Galhotra said. Speaking to Autoblog on the floor of the New York Auto Show where the Continental formally debuted Wednesday, the Lincoln president reiterated that the car is on track to launch in 2016. It will compete against the Audi A6, Lexus GS, BMW 5 Series and other large luxury sedans. After its debut, the concept in New York will fly to China – another critical market for Lincoln – for display there. It will be replaced in New York by a prototype without an interior. The Continental is the latest high profile play by Lincoln to raise its image with consumers, who have either ignored or forgotten about it amid steep competition in the luxury sector from German and Japanese brands and a potentially resilient Cadillac. Lincoln sales are essentially flat compared with 2014 through the first quarter of this year, with total volume of 21,478 units. The middling start to 2015 comes on the heels of nearly 16-percent sales growth last year spurred by the launch of the MKC and the prominent signing of Matthew McConaughey to star in Lincoln advertisements. Other News, Notes & Quotes Speaking of names, Chevrolet did its homework before deciding to proceed with "Malibu" for its new generation of midsize cars. "We went out and researched it," said Alan Batey, president of General Motors North America. "People actually like the name 'Malibu,'" he said. Admittedly, the current Malibu has struggled in the marketplace against entrenched competitors, Batey said, but he's optimistic its awareness and historical value are assets to the dramatically redesigned sedan."The name's strong," he said. Meanwhile, in other Chevy news, the brand kicked off a new marketing campaign, "Real People, Not Actors" Wednesday. It will show consumers interacting with Chevys and their spontaneous reactions to the vehicles.
