1968 Mercury Cougar 289 2bbl on 2040-cars
Manhattan, Kansas, United States
Up for auction is my 1968 Mercury Cougar. Well optioned out of the factory. Power steering, power front disc brakes, air conditioning. This was my project for the last year and I have lost interest and decided to move on and focus on my family. I received the vehicle from a friend who purchased the vehicle from the original family in Wamego, KS. It was stored inside for most of its life, but the previous owner needed room, so it was moved out. Motor Turns over, runs and idles, but carburetor is leaking.
I bought spark plugs, cap and rotor and points and condenser. Transmission grabs nicely as I have put it in Drive and reverse in my driveway. Brakes will need to be completely overhauled. Very little peddle and fluid drains out somewhere. The interior is surprisingly in decent shape. the leather is cracked. Well optioned as it has the rare headrest and the shoulder belts. The floor is solid, carpet needs to be replaced. Very little rust on the vehicle, looks to have been undercoated from the factory. Rear Trunk wells have rusted out, no other rust can be seen(I have not put it up on a lift.) When I received the car it was missing the drivers door. I located a replacement door, but misaligned the hinges and the front fender needs to be moved forward to open the door or damage to both the fender and door will occur. Windshield is cracked. All other glass is in good shape and I have the driver's door glass in the trunk. Roof has a fair amount of bondo on it, possibly from an earlier repaint. I do not see any holes, and there are not leaks inside the car. Previous owner may have backed into a mailbox, dent on the trunk and taillight panel.( I have a good replacement Trunk Lid that will be included) I have both tailights and extras, was told the sequential turn signals still work, have not tested yet. Vehicle has the original wire hub caps and steel wheels. Tires will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. 3 hold air, the right front has a bad valve and will leak out over night. Many Spare parts and trim will be included. Should not take long to make this one a good driver, possibly a show car. Clean title. Please look over all pictures and ask questions. Vehicle will need to be towed, more than likely on a flatbed trailer. I have described the vehicle to the best of my knowledge, I recommend inspecting the vehicle before committing a bid; vehicle is sold as is, where is. |

eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease
Wed, 29 Jan 2014Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
Preposed class-action lawsuit targets 'defective' MyFord Touch
Tue, 16 Jul 2013A national law firm, Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, has filed a proposed class action lawsuit whose presupposition is that MyFord Touch is defective. Specifically, the complaint states that the system - as well as the MyLincoln Touch and MyMercury Touch clones - often freeze, fail to respond to voice or touch commands and have issues connecting to mobile phones.
According to Hagens Berman managing partner Steve Berman, MyFord Touch is a theoretically "brilliant idea" that falls short in actual execution. Said Berman in a press release, "In reality, the system is fundamentally flawed, failing to reliably provide functionality, amounting to an inconvenience at best, and a serious safety issue at worst."
Other MFT issues enumerated within the 41-page filing include problems controlling the window defroster, rear-view camera and navigation system. The suit maintains that Ford is aware of the problem but has yet to submit a workable and acceptable solution to MFT customers. Scroll down if you'd like to read the full press release.
