1963 1/2 Mercury COMET S-22 - 260 V8/AT

Long Term Storage/ Barn Find: Low 63,000 miles

Rare S-22 Option HT: HP BUILT 260 V8/4V

The Comet S-22 was built for just a few years, through 1963. The V-8 Comet S-22 was offered as a mid-year, 1963 1/2 OPTION. The S-22 was available in convertible, 2-door sedan and the sporty 2-door hardtop/coupe. This rare S-22 factory V-8 is the highly sought after 2-Dr Hardtop.

THE 1963 S-22 V-8 had a different chassis and suspension design to accommodate the optional 260 V-8. Only the V-8 models had 5-lug wheels. S-22 Option Comets had the S-22 badging, factory bucket seats and center console. The back end was equipped with 3 tail lights instead of 2, and the grill received vertical bars, making it look more aggressive. THIS Comet S-22 was also equipped with optional power steering, drivers side remote mirror, factory woven front seatbelts, all transistor radio & the 260 V-8 grill badging. As the 2-dr hardtop, this Comet looks great with the windows up or down.

TITLE SHOWS- SERIES & BODY STYLE: 8COS22H2 = V8 Comet S22 2dr HT

HISTORY: Over the last few months I have had the car professionally repainted the factory Sultana White. There was no body work to repair, no evidence of any prior accident or repairs on this super straight and solid low mileage car. The interior was the original S-22 Black & Pearl White, with vintage coverings needing replacement. I had the bucket seats professionally done NOS Factory Comet S-22 seat materials. The biscuit pattern design covers are date stamped 1963 underneath, and this is the very last known of this material left in USA. New factory 80/20 woven & padded black carpets were also installed. The mat in the trunk was replaced with a new one. You can see under the hood and trunk the amazing straight and rust free condition of this rare model S-22. Speedometer, gas gauges, turn signals, lights all appear to work fine, the radio does not appear to have power to it so has not been tested.

MECHANICAL: I had the car professionally tuned up with all new spark plugs, wires, gas filters, oil filters & fluid change, etc. We flushed the tank and found the fuel pump canister filter also needed replacement; which we did. The car had upgrades done many years ago, but not that many miles ago such as the Vintage Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold, Holley 4 barrel carb, vintage Ford Motorsport Air Cleaner and fined aluminum valve covers. Engine runs smooth, burns clean and sounds like mild performance cam, I assume from appearance it has had a full, or at least top end rebuild at time vintage performance parts were added. You can see recent water pump, radiator, hoses, transmission cooler & dual exhaust. Even radiator fan looks like new factory Ford blue paint. This car is equipped with Heavy Duty rear shocks & vintage traction bars. All of this was done prior to long term storage. I have recently added the vintage 14” Crager SS 5-spoke wheels with new B F Goodrich Radial TA 70 series tires. This S-22 has the “look” & vintage Muscle car sound … it gets a …“cool car” …“tight” and thumbs up wherever it goes!

This low mileage survivor is in amazing condition. It is a solid and rust free car that has lived its whole life locally, from purchase new in Seattle to dry eastern WA & Spokane areas. You can still see the factory pinch welds under the doors & fenders, the original dash looks like new without cracks or fading. This was a long term storage find that has just recently brought back to life. You can look photos, see its lines and see how straight and nice this car really is. This is one of the nicest condition survivor comets I have seen, let alone being a very rare S-22 Optioned Factory V8, 2 Dr-Hardtop!

New Forza 6 car pack will let you race the Pontiac Aztek

Fri, Jan 29 2016

Just in time for this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the new Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 on the Xbox One lets you slip into the driver's seat of last year's winner. If you want to take something much weirder for a spin, the collection also includes a 2005 Pontiac Aztek. The download is available now for $6.99. The Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona was in a four-car battle early in last year's race, but it eventually was victorious. Forza Motorsport 6 also challenges drivers who download the car to a new Rivals event around Daytona, and the fastest people could win Alpinestars prizes. If you're nostalgic for a classic Daytona racecar, this pack includes Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7. The V8-powered beast won the IMSA GTO class in the 24-hour event in 1990. It should be fun around the game's longer road courses like Road Atlanta. This collection also has an eclectic mix of vehicles that aren't racecars. The controversial Aztek and the equally-controversial 1996 Subaru SVX take their places beside a lineup that offers drivers three eras of performance cars – a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5, and 1992 Alfa Romeo Milano Quadrifoglio Verde. The video below shows all of them in action. Race to the Finish Line with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 By Xbox Wire Staff posted on January 27, 2016 at 8:00 am With the racing season set to kick into full gear during this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona race, Forza fans now have a chance to get their own taste of endurance racing glory with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6, available on Thursday, Jan. 28. Leading off the pack of seven cars is last year's 24 Hours of Daytona winner, the 2015 Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona Prototype. The prototype will be fielded in this weekend's race, which begins at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 30 and can be viewed live on Fox Sports 1 in the U.S. The Alpinestars Car Pack features six additional cars, each with a unique pedigree all its own. From the 1990 Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7 – also a competitor in Daytona 24 Hour events of years past – to the inimitable 2005 Pontiac Aztek (famous more for its fictional owner than its performance), this pack has something for every kind of car fan. Forza Motorsport 6 is the only game where players can drive last year's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona winner on the recently remodeled Daytona International Speedway.

Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri XR2

Mon, Jun 5 2023

Just a year after the Mazda MX-5 Miata first went on sale in the United States, Ford's Mercury Division began selling a similarly-priced two-seat convertible here. This was the 1991-1994 Mercury Capri, and I've found an example of the hot-rod turbocharged version in a northeastern Colorado car graveyard. The Capri name has an illustrious history within the Ford Empire. First used on a Lincoln in 1952, it went on to serve as the name for a hardtop version of the early-1960s Ford Consul in the UK, then as the designation for a low-end trim level on the 1966-1967 Mercury Comet. Starting in the 1969 model year in Europe (1970 in North America), Ford began selling the best-known Capri of all: a sporty coupe based on the Cortina, sold through Mercury dealers in the United States but never badged as a Mercury here. Sales of that Capri halted here after 1978 (they continued through 1986 in Europe), but the Mercury Division then moved the name over to its version of the 1979-1986 Ford Mustang. After that, Ford Australia took the Capri name for a new Mazda 323-based sports car beginning in 1989. Then Dearborn decided that an Americanized version of the Australian Capri would be a success on this side of the Pacific, and left-hand-drive Capris began showing up in American Mercury showrooms in late 1990. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those first-model-year cars, and it's the very rare turbocharged XR2 version. While this car was intended to be a competitor for the Miata, it's really that car's Mazda cousin. Both cars got their power from 1.6-liter versions of Mazda's versatile B engine, though the Capri had the same front-wheel-drive setup as its 323/Protege (and Escort/Tracer) platform siblings. At the same time, Ford was selling Kia-built Mazdas with Festiva (and, a bit later, Aspire) badging, alongside Mazda MX-6s with Probe badges. Just to make things interesting, American Mazda dealers were selling Ford Explorers as Mazda Navajos, while Rangers with Mazda badges followed starting in 1994. The 1990s were Mazda-riffic times at Ford! This car wasn't the first Australian-designed, Mazda-based Ford product sold in the United States. That honor belongs to the 1988-1989 Mercury Tracer, which was based on the same Mazda 323 platform as the Capri and built in Mexico. Later on, the Tracer remained a member of the 323 chassis family but was a nearly identical twin to its Ford Escort sibling.

Icon and Stealth EV are building an electric Derelict Mercury

Mon, May 14 2018

Icon, a company known for its high-quality restomod vehicles, is building another Derelict, this one a 1949 Mercury coupe. While the fact Icon is building another one of its sleeper hot rods with patina isn't the most shocking, what's under the hood is. The company has teamed up with Stealth EV to turn this latest Derelict into an electric car. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The car was shown in the above Twitter post with video. The exterior is just what you'd expect from an Icon Derelict. It's solid but with a weathered finish. And even as the guy from Stealth EV approaches the car, it looks like it has a V8 under the hood. But as he explains, there's actually the two motor controllers and half of a Tesla battery pack under there. It's just that they've all been given some classy looking metal casings and mounted to look like a V8. Apparently the motors themselves are in the transmission tunnel. The Stealth EV rep says it uses a pair of AM Racing motors. Depending on which motor controllers the companies are using, those motors could produce as much as 700 horsepower. Power will go to the rear wheels and no transmission will be used, making it direct drive. It will have a limited-slip differential, and the whole car sits on an Art Morrison chassis with independent suspension. This actually isn't the first electric Icon, nor the first developed with Stealth EV. Before this, the companies created a totally awesome electric Volkswagen Thing. That little truck made much less power at 180 horses, but it was also a way smaller and lighter vehicle. Related Video:
