Low 63,000 miles Rare S-22
Option HT: HP BUILT 260 V8/4V The Comet S-22 was built for just a few years,
through 1963. The V-8 Comet S-22 was offered as a mid-year, 1963 1/2 OPTION. The
S-22 was available in convertible, 2-door sedan and the sporty 2-door hardtop/coupe.
This rare S-22 factory V-8 is the highly sought after 2-Dr Hardtop. THE 1963 S-22 V-8
had a different chassis and suspension design to accommodate the optional 260
V-8. Only the V-8 models had 5-lug wheels. S-22 Option Comets had the S-22
badging, factory bucket seats and center console. The back end was equipped
with 3 tail lights instead of 2, and the grill received vertical bars, making
it look more aggressive. THIS Comet S-22 was also equipped with optional power
steering, drivers side remote mirror, factory woven front seatbelts, all transistor radio & the 260 V-8
grill badging. As the 2-dr hardtop, this Comet looks great with the windows up
or down. DATA PLATE INFO: v BODY 63C / 2-door S-22 Hardtop v COLOR M / Sultana White v TRIM 56A / Black Beige S-22 Special v DATE 21c / built March 21st, 1963 v DSO 54 / Seattle: Dealer Special Order v AXEL 4 / = 3.25:1 v TRANS 3 / Automatic VIN DECODE: F= 8cyl;

& BODY STYLE: 8COS22H2 = V8 Comet S22 2dr HT HISTORY:
Over the last few months I have had the car
professionally repainted the factory Sultana White. There was no body work to
repair, no evidence of any prior accident or repairs on this super straight and
solid low mileage car. The interior was the original S-22 Black & Pearl
White, with vintage coverings needing replacement. I had the bucket seats professionally
done NOS Factory Comet S-22 seat materials. The biscuit pattern design covers
are date stamped 1963 underneath, and this is the very last known of this
material left in USA. New factory 80/20 woven & padded black carpets were
also installed. The mat in the trunk was replaced with a new one.
You can see under the hood and trunk the amazing straight and rust free
condition of this rare model S-22. Speedometer, gas gauges, turn signals,
lights all appear to work fine, the radio does not appear to have power to it
so has not been tested. MECHANICAL: I had
the car professionally tuned up with all new spark plugs, wires, gas filters,
oil filters & fluid change, etc. We flushed the tank and found the fuel
pump canister filter also needed replacement; which we did. The car had upgrades
done many years ago, but not that many miles ago such as the Vintage Edelbrock
Performer aluminum intake manifold, Holley 4 barrel carb, vintage Ford
Motorsport Air Cleaner and fined aluminum valve covers. Engine runs smooth,
burns clean and sounds like mild performance cam, I assume from appearance it
has had a full, or at least top end rebuild at time vintage performance parts
were added. You can see recent water pump, radiator, hoses, transmission cooler
& dual exhaust. Even radiator fan looks like new factory Ford blue paint. This
car is equipped with Heavy Duty rear shocks & vintage traction bars. All of
this was done prior to long term storage. I have recently added the vintage 14”
Crager SS 5-spoke wheels with new B F Goodrich Radial TA 70 series tires. This S-22 has the “look” & vintage Muscle car sound … it gets a
…“cool car” …“tight” and thumbs up wherever it goes! This low mileage survivor is in amazing condition. It is a solid and rust free car that has lived its whole life locally, from purchase new in Seattle to dry eastern WA & Spokane areas. You can still see the factory pinch welds under the doors & fenders, the original dash looks like new without cracks or fading. This was a long term storage find that has just recently brought back to life. You can look photos, see its lines and see how straight and nice this car really is. This is one of the nicest condition survivor comets I have seen, let alone being a very rare S-22 Optioned Factory V8, 2 Dr-Hardtop! More than 800,000 Fords recalled for faulty Takata airbags
Thu, Jan 12 2017The Basics: Ford is recalling about 816,000 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles built in the US for faulty passenger-side Takata airbags. The affected vehicles were all built in North America, with 654,695 recalled vehicles in the US and 161,174 vehicles in Canada. A wide variety of cars, trucks, and SUVs are affected. This is a planned expansion of an earlier recall. 2005-09 and 2012 Ford Mustang 2005-06 Ford GT 2006-09 and 2012 Ford Fusion 2007-09 Ford Ranger 2007-09 Ford Edge 2006-09 and 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ 2007-09 Lincoln MKX 2006-09 Mercury Milan The Problem: Like every other Takata recall, the problem rests with faulty airbags that can potentially expel shrapnel, injuring or killing vehicle occupants. Millions of vehicles from dozens of automakers are affected, so don't think that Ford is alone on this one. Injuries/Deaths: Ford stated in a press release that there have been no injuries or death linked to the vehicles in this recall. All in all, 11 deaths and 180 injuries across a variety of automakers have been linked to these Takata airbags. The fix: Ford will contact owners soon, and the affected vehicles will have their airbags replaced by a dealer at no additional charge. If you own one: Wait for contact from Ford, then head to the dealer to get a replacement. If you're wondering if your vehicle is affected, go to this Ford website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The recall reference number is 17S01. Junkyard Gem: 1981 Mercury Cougar XR-7
Sun, May 24 2020The story of the Mercury Cougar involves more plot twists and unexpected digressions than that of just about any other Detroit car, with successive Cougar generations based on the Ford Mustang (1967-1973), the Ford Torino and/or Thunderbird (1974-1979), various Fox Fords including the Thunderbird (1980-1988), the MN12 Thunderbird/Lincoln Mark VIII (1989-1997), and the Ford Mondeo (1999-2002). There were wagon and sedan Cougars for brief periods, just to confuse everybody, and the rakish XR-7 Cougars sometimes lived on different platforms from their ordinary non-XR-7 counterparts. I think the Late Malaise Era Fox XR-7s are among the most interesting of the bunch, so I was quite excited to spot this tan-over-gold '81 in a Denver yard. I tried to count the number of screaming-cat badges on and in this car and gave up once I hit a dozen. The steering wheel, door panels, C pillars, center console, and — of course — the hood ornament all boast snarling felines. Earlier Cougars had emblems showing full side views of stalking catamounts, but the Cougar logo for the 1980s showed just the head. This car got the optional center console, which I hear is quite a rarity. You had to pay $174 extra (that's around $513 in 2020 dollars) for an AM/FM/cassette audio system in the '81 Cougar, but at least the air conditioning was standard equipment. Believe it or not, thieves used to steal these radios. Kumpf Lincoln-Mercury still exists in Englewood (as Landmark Lincoln), and the yard that now houses this car can be found just 15 miles up Broadway on the north side of Denver. The padded landau roof hasn't fared so well beneath the fierce Colorado sun, but overall this car seems very solid. Sadly, only the Mustangs and (once in a long while) Fairmonts get much love from the Fox Ford crowd these days. Three Mercury "wire wheel" hubcaps and one from a Lincoln. The base engine in the 1981 XR-7 was the "Thriftmaster" 200-cubic-inch (3.3-liter) straight-six, but very few XR-7 buyers would have refrained from checking the box for one of the two optional Windsor V8s. I can't tell if we're looking at the 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter) version or the 302-cubic-inch (5.0-liter) one here, but real-world drivers might not have noticed the difference between the 120-horse 255 and the 130-horse 302, anyway. The non-XR-7 Fox Cougars had five-speed manual transmissions as base equipment (which nobody wanted), but all 1981 XR-7s had automatics.
Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues
Wed, 28 Dec 2011'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.
