I purchased this 1976 Mercury Comet from the 2nd owner in June of 2006. The previous owner stated the miles were original and it was stored inside a barn. The motor was just rebuilt when I bought it at around 71,000 miles. It was bored .030 over. A Edelbrock Cam and Lifter Kit was used along with intake manifold, 4-barrel carburetor and valve covers, all Edelbrock as well. Side pipe exhaust, Cragar S/S wheels and Rear Air Shocks were done by previous owner as well. There was an aftermarket stereo and speakers installed by previous owner but I decided to go with the working, original stereo. There is a lot of new parts I have installed along the way since owning it. Spark Plugs, Ford Racing 9mm Plug Wires, All Belts and Hoses, Thermostat, MSD Blaster Coil, Duralast Starter, Battery Cables, K&N Air Filter, Duraspark Distributor Cap & Rotor and Fuel filter. Just changed the oil and filter. There is a few New-Old-Stock parts as well. Instrument Panel Circuit Board, Comet Locking Gas Cap, Dome Light Cover, Gear Shift Knob and Hood Prop Grommets. There was a Grant Aftermarket Steering Wheel in it when I bought it but I replaced it with a 1970's Ford Sport Steering wheel. The car runs and drives great. No leaks. All glass is in great shape. Heater and wipers work good. Headliner has a burnt spot as you can see in the picture. Other than that, great shape. The seats do need re-upholstered but just the fabric, springs are good. I have and will include a new color matched seat cover. Carpet has a spot missing on passenger side and driver's side foot pad is coming apart along the seam. All lights inside and out work. The check engine light came on after replacing the instrument panel circuit board with a NOS one, have not figured out why yet. Brakes are good. Tires do have some dry rot from sitting but lots of tread left. Paint is oxidized but shines up well. There is a spot on hood due to an egg. Did not get it cleaned off in time. There is a dent on hood in same spot as well. Driver's side quarter panel and door has some tree sap damage to paint. Dent on driver's side door by front fender. Looks like a crease. Few dents in trunk lid. There is very little rust. Quarter sized on both rear quarter panels on bottom by wheels. Rear bumper bracket has some rot on passenger side. All molding is there and I have the piece for the driver's side door, fell off. Dash pad has some cracks. Front grill has a crack by mounting tab. I have the original key for trunk and locking glove box. Clean title, in hand. Any questions, please feel free to ask. Buyer is responsible for shipping and car is sold as is. Thank you for your time.

Watch as an out-of-control car demolishes gas pump

Tue, May 2 2017

A Baltimore area man was fighting for his life Tuesday after crashing his car into a gas station. According to WBAL, the unidentified 64-year-old lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons around 4:55 a.m. May 1 in Parkville, Md. The 2007 Mercury Milan careened downhill, ramped over a curb, and smashed full-speed into a gas station pump. The car then flipped and came to rest against one of the station's canopy support pillars. Don Karbowniczek, owner of a service station across the street, told WBAL he was shocked there wasn't more damage. It's also surprising that the car even made it to the pumps, as it had to thread past a coin-op vacuum machine, the station's sign, a utility pole, and a traffic light pole. "It came right through, took some of our bushes out, just trimmed them for us, and how it got through and flip the way it did, I don't know. From what I see on the marks, it had to go airborne and just come down on the pump," Karbowniczek said. Thankfully there was no fire or explosion. Gas pumps have shear valves - safety devices that immediately cut the flow of gasoline when a pump is damaged. The driver was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and was in critical condition. Police theorized the driver may have become stricken with a health issue when he lost control. Ford recalls 600,000 older-model sedans for braking issue

Fri, Dec 20 2019

Ford is recalling 600,166 older-model Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles over an issue that could affect braking and increase the risk of a crash. The safety recall covers certain Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ sedans from the 2006 through 2010 model years that were built at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico between Feb. 22, 2006, and July 15, 2009. Ford says a valve that is normally closed inside the hydraulic control unit may get stuck in the open position or be slow to close, which could make it harder to engage the brakes and increase risk of a crash. Ford says itÂ’s aware of 15 reports of accidents and two injuries possibly related to the issue. Dealers will inspect the hydraulic control unit for signs of the problem and replace it, if necessary. The dealers will pressure-flush the system with brake fluid and replace the reservoir cap with a new one. Ford is also issuing a small recall of 33 of its 2020 F-150 trucks in the U.S. and 51 in Canada over potentially damaged spare tires. It says the bead area on the tires may have been damaged when it was mounted onto the wheel assembly, leaving it vulnerable to corrosion, separation of the bead wire and ultimately a rapid loss of air pressure and detachment from the wheel. Dealers will replace the spare tire. Affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from Nov. 10-21 of this year.

2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven

Wed, Feb 8 2023

POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods.  However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows.  Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS.  Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence.  Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino  with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.
