I am selling my 1965 Comet Caliente. This is a parts car that will be sold with a bill of sale only, no title. Options include: A Code 289 Built in Los Angeles, CA. The Body Style is a 2-Dr. Hardtop. It has a V-8, 289 CID Engine with a 4-barrel carburetor Paint color is a solid Polar White Trim is Red Fabric & Vinyl Built on 11 in January 1965. The district sales office this car was ordered through was Seattle, WA Axle ratios is 3.00 to 1 conventional axle Transmission is Dual Range Automatic This car has not been on the road in years and has sat since the 1980/90's. I pulled it into the shop to make sure the engine was free. I charged the battery, put on a new ignition switch and jumped it at the solenoid. It cranked right over. I had unhooked the gas line prior to this. It ran when it was moved 4 years ago but did not fire when I tried this week. I am listing this now as a possible parts car to the Cyclone I have listed for a friend on my other auction. I had picked this Comet up in hopes of buying the Cyclone outright and using this as a parts car. Unfortunately, the Cyclone is out of my price range! The body is straight with the exception of the door hinge dents, one door ding, and one ding in front of the rear passenger tire on the quarter panel. I did not find any rust or cancer except for some rust on the battery tray. The floors/torque boxes are super solid. The glass is good. The interior is completely shot. The radio is there but did not turn on. Wipers and headlights work. Trunk is solid. Rear tires only hold air for a day or so. The hood hinges do not function properly causing the hood to not close normally (it sits forward and high in the back but will be tied down for transport). the trunk lid will also be tied down as the locking mechanism is off because of not having the key. I can assist in loading but shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Door Data Plate Info BODY 63D COLOR M TRIM 55 DATE 11A DSO 54 AXLE 1 TRANS 6 Please take a look at the pictures, read the entire description, and ask questions prior to bidding. While I have described this Comet and its condition to the best of my ability, I encourage inspection prior to bidding. I do not cancel bids for any reason and bid to buy as this is no reserve! Only a cashiers check or cash will be accepted as payment. A $250 deposit is due by paypal within 24hrs of the auction ending. Buyer responsible for shipping. There is no warranty with this car. Sold as is where is. Full payment is due within 7 days of the end of the auction. Again, only a bill of sale, no title. Must be picked up within 45 days of the close of the auction. If you are shipping the car, it is located in Walla Walla, WA 99362. Please feel free to call with any questions. Thank you! Ben (509) 301-4131 atic (C-4 |

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey
Wed, 09 Jan 2013The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
What do you do with a fake Bugatti Veyron for $60k?
Tue, Mar 29 2016Replica cars are a challenging labor of love because builders spend countless hours recreating a vehicle that people immediately compare to the real thing. Perhaps, the person behind this Mercury Cougar-based Bugatti Veyron should look for another way to pass that time. The coupe is currently for sale on eBay Motors for $59,900. The builder deserves some credit because the fiberglass body looks acceptable in the photos from farther away. The car might even fool a few people from a distance. However, the devil is in the details, and the closer you look, the worse this gets. The side intakes are especially rough. The red interior is atrocious. It's essentially the Cougar's cabin but in an eye-searing shade accented with lots of fake carbon fiber. The seller's eBay Motors ad really tries to market the look, though. "You slide in to [sic] this extremely comfortable leather interior and you feel like your bank account just quadrupled in size," the listing says. Don't expect to win any top speed titles in this Veyron replica, either. Rather than a mid-mounted quad-turbo W16, a 3.0-liter V6 from a Mercury Sable sits at the front. Thanks to an upgraded intake and exhaust, the seller claims, "It doesn't sound like your grandmas [sic] Sable." We wish the seller the best of luck, but the asking price of nearly $60,000 is probably too optimistic. We would still think twice about buying it even after taking a zero off that figure, but at least this thing is fun to look at. Related Video:
