I am selling this sweet 64 Cyclone for a friend. This was her father's car since 1982 and was last on the road in 1985, when it was parked until now. It still has the original Washington '63 plates and the last tabs from 1985. Though it has been off the road since 1985, it has been ran and moved several times throughout the years to help keep everything fresh. It has 79,056 original miles. We hooked up en external fuel tank to ensure it was still a good runner and sure enough, it fired right up. As any car of this age, you will need to go through it and tune it up prior to putting it back on the road. Some of the options include: 289 K code engine 4 Speed Manual Trans 3.25 gears in the rear Original Chrome Engine Dress Up Kit Cyclone Trim Package Original interior Original Paint Dash Tach Center Console Original hubcaps (note: they are not fully pressed on the wheels in the pictures as we took them off for safe storage after) This car truly is an original, low miles, high optioned car. It is extremely straight and virtually rust free (check out the pictures). The only body damage I could find is a small ding on the driver side rear (see pic), 2 small indents on the front quarter panel where the door hinges are from over extending. and one pinhole on the lower passenger side quarter panel. Other than those issues, I could find no rust (floors are super solid) or other body damage. Door Data Plate Info BODY 63E COLOR J TRIM 05 DATE 21D DSO 54 AXLE 4 TRANS 5 Please take a look at the pictures, read the entire description, and ask questions prior to bidding. While I have described this Comet and its condition to the best of my ability, I encourage inspection prior to bidding. I do not cancel bids for any reason and bid to buy as this is no reserve! Only a cashiers check or cash will be accepted as payment. A $500 deposit is due by paypal within 24hrs of the auction ending. Buyer responsible for shipping. There is no warranty with this car. Sold as is where is. If you are shipping the car, it is located in Walla Walla, WA 99362. Please feel free to call with any questions. Thank you! NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey
Wed, 09 Jan 2013The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
Car Stories: Owning the SHO station wagon that could've been
Fri, Oct 30 2015A little over a year ago, I bought what could be the most interesting car I will ever own. It was a 1987 Mercury Sable LS station wagon. Don't worry – there's much more to this story. I've always had a soft spot for wagons, and I still remember just how revolutionary the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable were back in the mid-1980s. As a teenager, I fell especially hard for the 220-horsepower 1989 Ford Taurus SHO – so much so that I'd go on to own a dozen over the next 20 years. And like many other quirky enthusiasts, I always wondered what a SHO station wagon would be like. That changed last year when I bought the aforementioned Sable LS wagon, festooned with the high-revving DOHC 3.0-liter V6 engine and five-speed manual transmission from a 1989 Taurus SHO. In addition, the wagon had SHO front seats, a SHO center console, and the 140-mph instrument cluster with mileage that matched the engine. When I bought it, that number was just under 60,000 – barely broken in for the overachieving Yamaha-sourced mill. The engine and transmission weren't the only upgrades. It wore dual-piston PBR brakes with the choice Eibach/Tokico suspension combo in front. The rear featured SHO disc brakes with MOOG cargo coils and Tokico shocks, resulting in a wagon that handled ridiculously well while still retaining a decent level of comfort and five-door functionality. I could attack the local switchbacks while rowing gears to a 7,000-rpm soundtrack just as easily as loading up on lumber at the hardware store. Over time I added a front tower brace to stiffen things a bit as well as a bigger, 73-mm mass airflow sensor for better breathing, and I sourced some inexpensive 2004 Taurus 16-inch five-spoke wheels, refinished in gunmetal to match the two-tone white/gunmetal finish on the car. That, along with some minor paint and body work, had me winning trophies at every car show in town. And yet, what I loved most about the car wasn't its looks or performance, but rather its history. And here's where things also get a little philosophical, because I absolutely, positively love old used cars. Don't get me wrong – new cars are great. Designers can sculpt a timeless automotive shape, and engineers can construct systems and subsystems to create an exquisite chassis with superb handling and plenty of horsepower. But it's the age and mileage that turn machines into something more than the sum of their parts.
Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
