1964 Mercury Comet Caliente "k Code" 4 Speed Toploader 289 H.o. on 2040-cars

This is a pretty sweet ride, it has been entirely taken apart and reworked, engine pulled, cleaned up and freshly painted, holley 650 4bbl double pumper, high performance clutch, new radiator, '79 Granada spindles and disc brakes, windshield, rear glass, completely new interior from the carpet to headliner, trunk liner, exhaust system (twin glass packs), this thing sounds vicious! Door locks are keyed to match ignition cylinder. All windows roll up and down perfectly. Both doors open and close perfectly, no sagging whatsoever. The only imperfections are the drive shaft was made for the car but isn't balanced, so it needs a new one before you hit highway speeds. The vibration isn't noticeable whatsoever under 50-55 mph. The paint is nice but it needs more laid on the top of the car (hood, roof, trunk). New matching tires, problem here is the wheel offset is a hair off so you get a little rubbing on the rear tires if you're turning hard or have a lot of weight in the car. The interior is fantastic but it didn't receive a new dash pad, but it looks like new. There has been floorboard repair due to rust, the floor was removed and rewelded so it is solid. Despite these issues, the car fires right up and runs phenomenally. Brakes are like new and work perfectly. This thing is a blast to drive with the manual transmission and high performance clutch! The speedometer is not hooked up, but you can hear the gear turning, just needs new cable, this was overlooked during the restoration. Other gauges function (fuel, temp, oil pressure). It has its original steering wheel. I have a lot of extra trim pieces, the caliente badging, the trunk trim, the aluminum that goes down the length of the car (where its painted white now), stock kick panels, horn button, etc. I also have an extra un-cut dashplate so you can put in a factory radio if you wish. This car needs very little to finish. Hard work is all done and you'll feel like your driving a new one once you sit in this thing! Want something different from the crowd at your cruise in night? Here it is! This car is uncommon, and really turns heads with its snarly exhaust! Don't miss out on this rare bucket seat factory 4 speed Caliente. If you are a serious buyer and have questions about the car call me 5208675701

Mercury rises around sexy Cougar pack

Sat, May 30 2015

With a slightly larger body and a more luxurious interior, the Mercury Cougar doesn't carry quite as much cachet among pony car enthusiasts as the venerable Ford Mustang. But don't try to make that argument around Cougar super-fan Mike Brown. Since starting his Cougar collecting in 1988, Brown has become an absolute expert on the model, and he claims to have owned 400 of the Mercury pony cars in that time. Ten of them are in his collection today, not to mention a heap of spare parts in the garage. Check out some of the rarer members of Brown's fleet and allow him to tell you about them in this interesting interview from Electric Federal.

Junkyard Gem: 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Sat, Dec 19 2020

Once hybrid vehicles from Honda and Toyota proved to work well in the real world of American streets during the early 2000s, other U.S.-market manufacturers climbed aboard the gasoline-electric bandwagon. Ford introduced the Escape Hybrid for the 2005 model year and sales proved quite strong; its Mercury-badged sibling, the Mariner Hybrid, appeared the following year. The Mariner Hybrid never induced many vehicle shoppers to sign on the line which is dotted, despite gasoline prices going absolutely ape in 2008, though it remained available all the way through the Mercury brand's 2010 demise. Here's one of those rare trucks, found in a Denver-area yard last month. The Escape/Mariner Hybrids got amazing fuel economy for tall, truck-shaped machines, though theĀ serious penny-pinchers with long commutes skipped anything built in the 21st century and began driving up the prices of the once-scorned Geo Metro XFi, gas-sipping champion of the previous decade. The Mercury brand was on the ropes by this time, with not much to distinguish the once-distinctive Mercury machines from their near-identical Ford counterparts. The 1999-2002 Cougar was the last Mercury sold here with no twin brothers over in the Ford showrooms. I do see the occasional Escape Hybrid in places like this, though such gas-saving small SUVs tend to retain their value well enough that it takes a crash to retire one. This Mariner Hybrid hit something hard and either flipped on its side or scraped a guardrail for some distance. The airbags deployed and, presumably, spared the occupants from serious injury. That's the good news. The bad news is that fixing this kind of damage to a 13-year-old vehicle made by a defunct brand just isn't worth it to insurance companies, hybrid-electric powertrain or not. We can assume that the battery pack lives on in another Escape/Mariner. Navigation, Bluetooth, and other features that were considered pretty slick in 2007. This truck was in pretty good shape until the very end. Jill Wagner proved that you can bury a Mercury emblem in volcanic soil and it will grow into a brand-new Mariner Hybrid. That's how science works! You can go to the same field and tap on a Mercury emblem, if you want to get a regular gasoline Mariner. eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
