When I bought the car it was a V-6 automatic I brought it back from North Carolina. I pulled the engine, transmission and complete interior out of the car. I dropped the complete fuel system (tank and lines). I replaced the 7.5 non-locking rear axle with 7.5 traction lock slapper bar axle. I pressure washed the complete car inside and outside. I flushed the fuel lines and replaced the tank with a good used one (old one was full of varnish). Then went back together with the car.
The engine is a 98 5.0 roller cam engine with a 85 5.0 H.O cam it was a Ford Motorsport short block (nothing special, selling excess inventory) rebuilt heads and all new gaskets. The intake is an Edelbrock performer with a holley 600 vacuum secondarys. The headers are equal length shorties (dont recall brand they were used). It has a good used 85 H.O dizzy. MSD 6AL and coil. New water pump. I used the serpentine belt system from an 85 also.
The clutch was a new when installed. 10.5 Motorsport unit.
Transmission is a 83 V-8 T-5 that I pulled down and inspected replaced 1 synchro (3rd I believe). Shifts great. Stock short throw shifter.
The 7.5 stock slapper bar unit 3.08.
Exhaust is an off-road h-pipe with stock 91 5.0 mufflers. I have the stainless tailpipes but have not welded them back on. There is a exhaust leak at the passenger side header to h-pipe. Double hump crossmember.
Suspension is 85 rear sway bar with HD shocks (forget the brand, used) the front has the original struts and sway bar, but I have an 85 5.0 sway bar for the car. The car has Motorsport B springs in the rear, I have the front springs too, but they have not been installed.
Brakes original 83 parts. The need some work, very soft.
Interior is walnut. I bought another interior and used the best parts. The left overs are included. I have 2 walnut cargo covers. The door panels and seats are great for the age. I bought a new 2 piece carpet set almost installed (i don't care for the fit, but hey it's walnut), new sun visors (color is slightly off). I have the headliner cardboard but no fabric. The dashpad has been dyed and is cracked.
The body is very solid! The floor, shock towers door bottoms and rear hatch are super great (no rust)! The body does have dents all over, they can be repaired. There is a small rust hole behind each rear wheel. There is surface rust from the paint fading (no hole issues). The windshield is broke looks like someone did it on purpose. Factory Ford sun roof. I have an 84 RS upper on the car with foglight bracket. The foglights are Marchal amber 759's, I have a backup light too. There is a switch mounted for the foglights, but wiring has not been run. I have a poor shape lower and attaching parts, I was hoping to find a better lower. The fender extensions are rough, I was going to buy some from John's Cougar parts. Also included is a 83/84 RS hood with a factory cut opening and hood scoop that has been cut out in front. The rims are ford 10 holes with Mercury center caps. Tires are fair to poor. There is a host of extra parts included. (see pictures)

NHTSA investigating 500k Ford and Mercury cars for lighting failures
Mon, Apr 6 2015The Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis might be long gone as new models in showrooms, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration might check them out yet again for a potential problem. At the urging of North Carolina Consumers Council, the agency may open another investigation into the front lighting control module on vehicles from the 2003-2005 model years, and NHTSA estimates the issue could affect 517,945 vehicles. If the module stops working, it can cause a complete failure of all forward lighting, including the headlights. NHTSA previously investigated the issue in 2008 and 2009 but found no need for a recall, according to Bloomberg. Ford also extended the warranty on the part to 15 years or 250,000 miles. To prompt this new request, the North Carolina Consumers Council received a letter from a woman experiencing the module's failure. Upon further investigation, the council found 604 complaints of this problem on NHTSA's website, including seven crashes. Furthermore, the group has alleged that dealers told customers that the parts to perform the replacement weren't available, despite the extended warranty. According to the government agency, "A defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and make a grant or deny decision." Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker tells Autoblog via email, "We will cooperate with NHTSA, as we always do." You can read the council's complete letter to the Feds in PDF format, here. The petition letter is attached for review. The petitioner alleges a defect in the lighting control module that powers the headlights which can result in the loss of vehicle headlights and/or all exterior lighting while driving. ODI has previously investigated this issue under PE08-066 which was closed without a defect finding.
Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri
Mon, Sep 19 2016Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:
NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall
Tue, Apr 7 2015The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.
