If you plan on buying a convertible this year, NOW IS THE TIME before spring comes and prices go sky high.

Being offered at NO RESERVE:

2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK320 6-speed manual V6 with amazing service history and only 90k miles!!!

- Accident-free with great service history. Take a look at the free Carfax report provided at the bottom of the auction; Carfax values this Mercedes at $2,410 over retail value given its excellent history!!

- Notice on the Carfax, this Mercedes has spent its entirety in FLORIDA. Never exposed to the harsh northern climate. Always garaged.

- Please take your time. I've included a lot of high-definition pictures of the vehicle. It is a very large auction with the high-def pictures. The free Carfax report is at the very end. If you are not seeing it, you may not be seeing some of the other photographs as well; please refresh your browser and allow enough time for all of the pictures to load if this occurs.

- 3.2L V6 motor runs like a top. This is one of Mercedes-Benz's most reliable engines; offered in the C320, ML320, E320 sedan and wagon as well. Extremely reliable with great acceleration.

- RARE 6-Speed Manual transmission shifts perfectly and smoothly through all gears. No grinding, slipping.

- With the power of the V6 combined with the 6-speed manual transmission, the Benz is an absolute blast to drive. 6-Speed standard manual transmission is the only way to go in this sports car.

- Red on Black, 6-speed manual V6 Mercedes-Benz Hard-Top Convertible! This is the ultimate sports car driver's dream.

- Mechanically, the Mercedes is excellent; everything works great and the Benz really rides beautifully.

- Brakes, exhaust and suspension are all excellent.

- No engine warning lights or malfunctions of any kind.

- Heat blows hot and A/C is ice-cold!

- RUST-FREE. From Florida  and garage-kept. And the condition inside and out really reflects it. The Benz looks a few years old tops and drives like a dream.

- Premium Wood-Grain interior package with HEATED seats, power seats, power mirrors, keyless-entry.

- All power options function properly.

- 6-disc changer in the trunk and FACTORY MERCEDES head-unit. Audio sounds great.

- Alloy wheels look great and really complete the look of the Benz. No salt corrosion or curb rash.

- Red exterior looks amazing. No dings, dents. A few chips in the hood and one minor touched-up spot on the driver B pillar (body piece between small driver window and rear window). Hardly noticeable; overall, the body is extremely straight with no clear coat blemishes.

- Black LEATHER interior is also in great shape.  No tears or rips in the seats or carpets. Full solid black dash interior means NO TRIM PAINT. If you're familiar with these SLKs, you know that nearly all have the paint peeling off the interior. No need to worry about repainting in the future. Dash shines beautifully. This Benz has been extremely well maintained.

- This is the classic sports car enthusiasts' color combination. Red exterior with black leather interior and the premium wood-grain trim package complements and completes everything perfectly. The Benz is a real head-turner.

- Hard-top POWER convertible top functions perfectly and smoothly. No hesitations. Drop the top with the push of a button!!

- If you're looking at this auction, you know how hard these SLKs are to find in this kind of well-kept condition.

- All original owners' manuals with key-less remote, original floor mats, FIRST-AID kit. This is one of the nicest, well-kept, all-original SLKs out there.

- This is really a rare find: 2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK320 from FLORIDA with only 90k miles and with RARE 6-speed trans, well-maintained, accident-free and being sold at NO RESERVE!!

EVO "2012 Car of the Year: The Track Battles" is a sports car salmagundi

Sun, 25 Nov 2012

EVO has come out with another gotta-watch-it video, throwing its 2012 Car of the Year contestants around the UK's 1.5-mile Blyton Park track. It's actually a 15-minute teaser for the full-length DVD detailing the magazine's Car of the Year selection, but the tease is worth every penny free second.
Tiff Needell and sports car racer Richard Meaden handle the wheel duties, the two driving five pairs of sports cars: Lotus Exige S vs. Porsche Boxster S, Morgan Three-Wheeler vs. Toyota GT86, BMW M135i vs. Porsche 911, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series vs. Alpina B3 GT3, the marquee event pits the McLaren MP4-12C vs. the Pagani Huayra. After a head-to-head lap with commentary during drifts, Meaden takes each car out to set a representative lap time.
You'll find the verdicts, lots of tire smoke, and lines like "Anything you can do sideways I can do sideways" in the video below.

My year in EVs: 8 electrics that are changing the car industry

Wed, Dec 1 2021

The year 2021 will go down as an inflection point in the auto industry’s transition to electric vehicles. It's when many much-anticipated models became reality. No longer sketches or sketchy prototypes, electric vehicles appeared from all corners with everything from the Lucid Air to Ford Mustang Mach-E changing how we think about transportation. I managed to drive a lot of them, and as I went through my notes, I realized IÂ’ve got a mini memoir of the seminal EVs of 2021. HereÂ’s my take on eight of them. Hummer EV Easily the most over-the-top EV I tested this year. The 1,000-hp super truck lived up to the hype with its domineering presence, stupendous power and simply being a reincarnated Hummer. I took it for a short spin on- and off-road at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, Mich., and was impressed with the airy cabin, removable sky panels and expansive touchscreens. Yes, I crab walked, which felt like steering a pontoon boat, though I can see why it would be useful. Lucid Air Dream Performance The most beautiful sedan I tested all year, EV or otherwise. Unlike the futuristic Mercedes EQS — which is quite attractive — LucidÂ’s car is a blend of mid-century modern interior aesthetics and classic European exterior styling. When I walked up for my test drive, someone who IÂ’m pretty sure was comedian Jon Lovitz was sitting inside and taking it all in. As it sat in the valet of a hotel in a wealthy suburban enclave north of Detroit, the Lucid drew more attention than any of the Mercedes, Cadillacs or Lexus models passing by. The driving experience was enveloping. Starting at $169,000 for the Performance model (reservations are closed), the Lucid I sampled packed 1,111 hp and 471 miles of range. From the precise steering to the comfortable suspension, the dynamics were spot-on. It's a formidable product, and all the more impressive given itÂ’s LucidÂ’s first. Chevy Bolt EV The Bolt was the most pleasant surprise for me. It handled well, offered low-to-the-ground hot hatch dynamics and the steering was dialed-in. Adding a crossover variant for the new generation was a smart play. On a summer morning where I went to a first drive of the Ford Bronco at an off-road course, my hour-long commute in the Bolt was an enjoyable appetizer.  The Bolt was also my biggest disappointment due to its extensive recalls for fire risk. Ironically, I had the Bolt in my driveway when the initial recall went out for the previous generation (2017-19).
