2000 Mercedes Slk 230 Kompressor Sport W/amg Package on 2040-cars
Mankato, Minnesota, United States
Mercedes Benz 2000 SLK 230 Sport Kompressor, 123,000 miles, clean title, great shape.
AMG package, Heated seats, AC, Power windows/locks, remote security, supercharged. A little about the car, I bought it 3 seasons ago, stored it every winter. I had the local Import mechanic replace the headgasket and intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, tune it up and ever since it runs like a top. Compression checked fine and the plugs all look good. Stored winters, no rust, looks fantastic! A few things to know, there is no spare tire, I never had a use for it and just carried a can of fix-a-flat (it also makes the trunk considerably bigger!). The interior is in good shape, but the front dash panel is a little loose, I'm sure it's just a clip or two that came loose, but I haven't had time to fix that. Passanger seat has some UV cracking, but is fine. This is the SPORT model, which came out in 2000 and included a full AMG body kit, with the very desirable 18" AMG monoblock rims. You may wonder why are the rims black? Well I was in the mood to "murder" it last year and had them plasti-coated. Don't like them black? Just peel the coating off or use a pressure washer, very easy google it if you're not sure what this is. Air conditioning works great. A list of what I've done to it in the past 3 seasons. - New KYB struts all the way around - New Brakes pads about 10K ago - New steering damper - New rear tires last season ( about 3/4 tread on front & rear) - Replaced front roof hydraulic seals (common problem on SLK) - New headliner - Had fluids flushed at the Benz dealer last year (Rear Diff, Brake & Coolant) - Updated headlights to reflector style (huge improvement!) - Updated running lights with the LED package - New Alpine CD/MP3/IPHONE interface with JBL speakers. - Dynomatted the door & trunk which helped the sound quite a bit. - Updated Grill with OEM black CLK grill - New ignition switch - New key fob (another $300 dealer item but when you pull it out, it looks great!) - Just changed the Oil to Mobil 1 about 100 miles ago. Why am I selling it? I wish I wasn't, but I've got a new 16 year old driver and while I'd be happy if she drove the Benz, the wife wants her to drive a bigger all wheel drive car for Minnesota Winters. |

As US exports top 2 million, is America becoming the world's source of cheap cars?
Mon, Feb 9 2015North American auto production is booming with 2014 figures just shy of the of the 17.3-million vehicle record set in 2000. With more models being built on the continent, even more are being shipped overseas. Factories in the US exported 2.1 million cars last year – the highest number ever. About half of those went to Canada and Mexico, but more than ever have been heading to places like the Middle East and China. The upswing comes in part from from after-effects from the Great Recession, according to The Wall Street Journal. With a weak dollar and lower production costs after the financial crisis, building vehicles in the US was relatively cheaper and more competitive in the world. At the same time buyers around the world are going crazy for crossovers. According to the WSJ, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are already exporting the majority of their US production of these models overseas. Both automakers have also announced investments to expand production further here to send more vehicles abroad. Even Honda has been shipping more models out of the country than it imported here. There is a concern this international strength could start slowing because the dollar is strengthening against other currencies, though it's too early to know what the actual effect of this could be, according to the WSJ. "Of course, we closely watch currency exchange, but we don't make changes in production or allocation based on temporary fluctuations in the exchange rate," Ford North American boss Joe Hinrichs told the newspaper. Brabus 800 Roadster is a power-mad aristocrat
Wed, 06 Mar 2013If we're being completely honest, we haven't exactly been in love with the aesthetics of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. It's mostly a front-end issue, with its glowering eagle-eye headlamps and upright, dinner-plate-sized Three-Pointed Star coming across to us as overwrought. That's particularly troublesome for a roadster whose history has of the most elegant designs of all time in its back catalog. Somehow, the new R231 generation's brash visuals seem more at home on this Brabus 800 Roadster to us.
That's probably because the high-dollar German tuner has turned up the wick on the SL's visuals even further, with carbon fiber bodywork, a more aggressive aero kit, matte hood scoop and complex two-finish wheels. It's all-the-way committed to its brashness, in other words - and justifiably so. Anything with 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque has earned the right to look however it wants, right?
Brabus started with the SL65 and its not-exactly-underpowered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, and went to town, fitting their own turbocharger and intercooler system, along with a less-restrictive exhaust system with driver-selectable sound levels and new engine electronics. The result is a 3.7-second 0-62 mph time, an electronically limited top whack of 217 mph... and one seriously compromised toupée.
Daimler CEO says nobody is making money on EVs right now
Wed, Nov 5 2014What do you charge for a vehicle you're going to lose money on? If you're Mercedes-Benz and the vehicle in question is the B-Class Electric Drive, you offer it for lease for just 399 euros ($498) a month with a down payment of 8,473 euros ($10,582). If Daimler was going to price it honestly, it seems, the number would have to be a lot higher. "Nobody today is making a battery-powered vehicle that's economically viable." – Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche That's according to Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, who spoke to reporters in Spain recently and said that, "You can reasonably say that nobody today is making a battery-powered vehicle that's economically viable in its own right. Manufacturers will not see a return within a reasonable time on the billions they're investing now." There are ways to make money in EVs, of course. Just ask Daimler, which recently sold its stake in Tesla for a cool $780 million. Zetsche has some EV-critical company in executives like Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, who has said his company loses over $10,000 on each Fiat 500E it sells. Other automakers – e.g., Tesla, Nissan – are much more positive about their financial bet on EVs, but no one is opening all their books to the public to prove this. Tesla, which worked with Mercedes on the B-Class ED, will have an earnings call with investors later today, so perhaps we'll learn something new in a few hours. The B-Class ED lease deal is for 36 months, based on an MSRP of 39,151 euros ($48,895) in Europe, including the 19 percent VAT. You can read more in the press release below. Commercial release of Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive: Local emission-free driving from ˆ399/month Stuttgart, Nov 03, 2014 With its high-torque electric motor, the B-Class Electric Drive delivers lively and superior driving pleasure – with zero local emissions. The B-Class Electric Drive is now available to order, with deliveries set to start before the end of 2014. Prices start at ˆ39,151[1]. The B-Class Electric Drive can be leased through the Mercedes-Benz Bank from ˆ399 a month[2]. Further information on the full range of tailor-made leasing and financing offers as well as specific pricing examples are available at http://www.mercedes-benz-bank.de. Quiet and local emission-free driving is ensured by a 132 kW electric motor, which, as is typical of an electric drive, delivers its maximum torque of 340 Nm right from the start. The result is noticeably powerful acceleration from rest.
