Up for auction is my 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL roadster.  It has only 36,500 documented miles.  It was purchased new from Mercedes-Benz of Hollywood, CA on Dec. 31, 1971 and has spent its entire life in Calif.  I am the second owner.  This is an original, non-restored, all numbers matching  350SL with all the number plates intact.  I have all the service records as well as the original window sticker.  It has always been professionally maintained.  This is a true '72 350SL as can be verified by the VIN#.  It has the powerful 4.5 litre fuel injected, smog exempt V8 engine coupled with a 3 speed automatic transmission.  This is truly a collector model with the small chrome bumpers and matching color keyed hubcaps that were only used on the '72 & '73 models.  It has power steering, power brakes, power locks and rare factory a/c, which blows ice cold & was optional in 1972.  The car has a rare factory color scheme.  The body is silver (code #180) and the top is black (code #040) which makes the car unique and quite collectable.  The car has had one high quality re-spray.  The paint is superb with no fading, sun damage or clear coat breakdown.  It has absolutely no rust or accident damage.  The body panels are all in perfect, original shape.  All the inner areas, including the door, trunk and hood jambs are in excellent condition.  The original factory black MB text interior is immaculate.  There are no rips, tears or wear marks. The dash has no cracks or fading and the visors are flat.  The glove box still has the original M-B removable flashlight.  The clock works and keeps perfect time.  The original carpets are in very good condition.  The black canvas soft top is still like new.  The chrome and aluminum trim are also in excellent condition.  The trunk is like new with the original rubber mat.  It has the original jack & tool kit.  The original Becker radio has been replaced with a Kenwood am/fm/cd radio.  (the original Becker will come with the car).  All the speakers were replaced.  The engine compartment is extremely clean as well as the under-carriage.  There is no grease or road grime.  Mechanically the car is in like new condition.  Everything works as it should.  It has been meticulously maintained. If you have any questions about the mechanics, feel free to contact me and I will go over the servicing history, which is extensive.  It runs strong and shifts like a new car.  It drives straight & tight with no shimmies or vibrations.  I will include with the sale a complete set of factory service manuals, car & cockpit covers and hardtop cart.  I have all the service records and invoices for work performed.  If you would like additional, detailed pictures, let me know. This is truly an excellent example of a very low mileage, well maintained 350SL.  It can be driven or shown with confidence.  I would encourage any serious buyers to have it inspected.  You will not be disappointed.  Any questions contact me at 530-621-4566.

These are the cars with the best and worst depreciation after 5 years

Thu, Nov 19 2020

The average new vehicle sold in America loses nearly half of its initial value after five years of ownership. No surprise there; we all expect that shiny new car to start depreciating as soon as we drive it off the lot. But some vehicles lose value a lot faster than others. According to data provided by iSeeCars.com, trucks and truck-based sport utility vehicles generally hold their value better than other vehicle types, with the Jeep Wrangler — in both four-door Unlimited and standard two-door styles — and Toyota Tacoma sitting at the head of the pack. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's average five-year depreciation of 30.9% equals a loss in value of $12,168. That makes Jeep's four-door off-roader the best overall pick for buyers looking to minimize depreciation. The Toyota Tacoma's 32.4% loss in initial value means it loses just $10,496. The smaller dollar amount — the least amount of money lost after five years — indicates that Tacoma buyers pay less than Wrangler Unlimited buyers, on average, when they initially buy the vehicle. The standard two-door Jeep Wrangler is third on the list, depreciating 32.8% after five years and losing $10,824. Click here for a full list of the top 10 vehicles with the least depreciation over five years. On the other side of the depreciation coin, luxury sedans tend to plummet in value at a much faster rate than other vehicle types. The BMW 7 Series leads the losers with a 72.6% drop in value after five years, which equals an alarming $73,686. BMW's slightly smaller 5 Series is next, depreciating 70.1%, or $47,038, over the same period. Number three on the biggest losers list is the Nissan Leaf, the only electric vehicle to appear in the bottom 10. The electric hatchback matches the 5 Series with a 70.1% drop in value, but since it's a much cheaper vehicle, that percentage equals a much smaller $23,470 loss. Watch these Super Bowl car commercials [UPDATE]

Sat, Feb 2 2019

On Sunday, February 3, the New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 53 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Some will watch because of the storyline of the old-school dynasty facing off against the new-school wunderkinds, but a large chunk of people will solely be watching for the commercials. Lucky for those who slot into the latter category, many of the manufacturers release their super bowl ads ahead of time, or have simply opted to release the commercials only online. Scroll down to see what car companies have already shown their cards. Audi Audi goes the comedic route in its clip for the Big Game. It starts with a grandpa showing his grandson a gorgeous Audi e-tron GT tucked away in a garage before he's shaken awake. Turns out he was just choking on a cashew in his cubicle at his boring job. Dodge Dodge does what it knows: create enough smoke to punch more holes in the ozone layer. Set to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia (the Super Bowl is in Atlanta, get it!?), a Challenger SRT Hellcat widebody, Charger SRT Hellcat, and Durango SRT are seen ripping through a city, leaving a trail of rubber crumbs in their wakes. Genesis Genesis has not yet released a commercial prior to the Super Bowl, but it is the official luxury vehicle of the NFL. Because of this, Genesis is hosting a fan experience for 10 days before the game. It will showcase the brand's cars, offer games, and have photos opportunities and autograph days. Hyundai Jason Bateman alert! Hyundai is one of the few companies to hook a major celebrity for its advertisement, and the casting is perfect. Bateman plays a doorman who takes people to various terrible events in life, including root canals, the middle seat, and shopping for a car. The ad centers around Hyundai's Shopper Assurance, which is Hyundai's new method for car shopping. Jeep An old 1963 Jeep Gladiator finds its strength in the crusher and transforms into a a new 2020 Gladiator, with a firm declaration that the nameplate is officially back. Kia Through Kia's commercial, a young boy wonders out loud what it'd be like if the millions spent on Super Bowl commercials were used to help others.

13-year-old boy swipes dad's Mercedes, drives across Europe

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

After an argument with his adoptive parents that resulted in them taking away his mobile phone, an angry 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in Italy and headed straight to Poland to meet his biological sister. But instead of taking the train or hitching a ride, like most on the run, the young man (an accomplished go-kart racer and car enthusiast) grabbed the keys to his father's Mercedes-Benz and jumped behind the wheel for an impromptu road trip.
With less than 200 euros (about $270) in his wallet and a passport in his pocket, the youngster managed to put more than 500 miles between himself and his distraught parents, crossing two international borders in the process, before German police nabbed him just shy of the Polish border. According to reports, the vehicle was tracked - it wasn't his driving that alerted authorities to his location.
Reunited with his mother and father, who traveled to Germany to retrieve both their son and the vehicle, the young man apologized and acknowledged his error. As a result of his actions, social workers will increase checks on the family and we can be sure his parents are now hiding the keys.
