You are looking at a very RARE 1984 EURO Benz 500SL, 2 door, 2 tops Convertible with 5.0L, V8, bullet proof, engine with automatic transmission.
A true 2 + 2 car, since it has the Kinder back seat. It is a true Euro model that was brought from Germany and was truly made for the autobahn, very fast and furious! Even my title says that it was first registered in a foreign country.
It has Euro headlights and Euro bumpers as well as a factory back Kinder seat with seat belts, very rare and expensive. It is most sought out and hard to find a true Euro car.
EBay system does not recognize Euro VIN #’s, here is the vin # for the car WDB1070461A001993. It was first imported by the original owner and stayed in Fl. Until I bought it from him when he brought it back to WI.
We used it a little during the summer and did not drive it anymore. Space is needed, hence the sale, otherwise, I would keep and restore.
Very expensive car and was sold for well $55k back in 84. NADA puts its value today between $19k&$40k and keeps going up in value every year. Very original and has low original miles, only 154k/miles. Very good engine with many new parts through the years. It is a complete pleasure to drive and most fun. Very sleek and beautiful and it demands attention anywhere it goes.

It comes fully loaded with Power Locks, Power Windows, Power Mirror,Antenna, Cruise Control, AC, Heated Seats for passenger and driver, Factory Back Seat with Seat Belts, Euro Adjustable Headlights with Wipers, Euro Bumpers, ABS, Leather Interior and much more.
All interior and exterior lights work as well, turn signals and wipers and pump. All gauges on the instrument cluster work. All options work on the car very well, even the clock and the horn work, Everything works on the car, though blower is not working when I tried it and that could be a fuse or a connection issue.
It is a drive and go car and last summer was driven from Fl. To Milwaukee, WI. And performed flawlessly, you can drive it anywhere you want!

Exterior is very nice, not perfect, as you can see from photos, the original paint still has a nice shine to it, trunk is dull and I am sure that it can be buffed out. In addition, some rust on top of the front fenders above the head lights, as can be seen in photos, and that can be easily repaired. Also, some rust by the trunk area that can also be repaired as well as couple of bubbles here and there. It has a black soft top that would need to be replaced, antenna broke of, but I do have the mast. Couple of spots where clear coat peeled as well as a loose cruise control handle and the visor for passenger side is missing. I do have, but have to find it!

In my opinion, nothing major and with little effort, you can have an excellent car. All chrome, glass, and molding are excellent. Tires are brand new as well as fuel system maintenance. Trunk is very clean and solid and it has a factory full size spare with tools and jack. Also, I have all original books and manuals that came with it from Germany.

Car runs, drives, shifts and handles well and can really hug the road. It has excellent pressure and idles very nice. It drives and shifts effortlessly. It is all ready to go on a moment’s notice. It does not miss a beat, very fast and a true performer indeed.

Interior is very nice overall. Dash is excellent but has minor crack, door panels, wood, chrome, carpeting Are excellent. Seats are very sturdy and comfortable.
By all means, the car is neither perfect nor is a garage queen and I am not saying that the car is a show car, for it is not. As mentioned above, car will need some work to make it perfect and again, had I have the time, I would do it because, it is well worth it.

It sold for well over $55k in 84, NADA value today is at $40k, so what you have is a very nice car selling at NO RESERVE and all this car will do is keep going up in value with time.

Mercedes-Benz may create electric-only brand

Fri, Jun 24 2016

Daimler's Mercedes-Benz division may follow in fellow German automaker BMW's footsteps by launching its own separate brand for electric vehicles, Hybrid Cars says, citing German publication Handelsblatt, which quoted people familiar with the process. Daimler's board may make the decision to go ahead with the plan as early next month. And the brand may officially be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September. Unlike BMW and the i brand, Mercedes would use its existing factories to produce the newly-branded vehicles instead of operating out of a separate one as the i brand does. The first vehicle under the brand is likely to be an SUV model based on the Mercedes-Benz GLC crossover vehicle and would start sales next year. The product line would be broadened further in 2020. Daimler declined to comment, according to Handelsblatt. Mercedes-Benz and BMW wouldn't be the only two German automakers with plans for more electric vehicle sales. Volkswagen has a plan to unleash as many as 20 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to the public by 2020, including the Phaeton and the Audi A8. On that note, reports surfaced last month that VW may build its own "Gigafacory" as it prepares to widen its plug-in vehicle push and bring down their costs. As for US sales, Smart sold 313 ForTwo Electric vehicles, down 43 percent from a year earlier. Meanwhile, BMW's i sales in the US fell 40 percent from a year earlier to 2,723. Currently, Mercedes-Benz's only two electric vehicles are the Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive and the Smart ForTwo Electric two-seat vehicle. In the meantime, take a look at Autoblog's First Drive of the B-Class Electric. Related Video: News Source: Handelsblatt, Hybrid Cars Green Mercedes-Benz smart Electric

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

Drive like a prince: Join us for a walk through Monaco's car collection

Fri, Dec 29 2023

Small, crowded, and a royal pain in the trunk lid to drive into during rush hour, Monaco sounds like an improbable location for a huge car museum. And yet, this tiny city-state has been closely linked to car culture for over a century. It hosts two major racing events every year, many of its residents would qualify for a frequent shopper card if Rolls-Royce issued one, and Prince Rainier III began assembling a collection of cars in the late 1950s. He opened his collection to the public in 1993 and the museum quickly turned into a popular tourist attraction. The collection continued to grow after his death in April 2005; it moved to a new facility located right on Hercules Port in July 2022. Monaco being Monaco, you'd expect to walk into a room full of the latest, shiniest, and most powerful supercars ever to shred a tire. That's not the case: while there is no shortage of high-horsepower machines, the first cars you see after paying ˆ10 (approximately $11) to get in are pre-war models. In that era, the template for the car as we know it in 2023 hadn't been created, so an eclectic assortment of expensive and dauntingly experimental machines roamed whatever roads were available to them. One is the Leyat Helica, which was built in France in 1921 with a 1.2-liter air-cooled flat-twin sourced from the world of aviation. Fittingly, the two-cylinder spun a massive, plane-like propeller. Government vehicles get a special spot in the museum. They range from a Cadillac Series 6700 with an amusing blend of period-correct French-market yellow headlights and massive fins to a 2011 Lexus LS 600h with a custom-made transparent roof panel that was built by Belgian coachbuilder Carat Duchatelet for Prince Albert II's wedding. Here's where it all gets a little weird: you've got a 1952 Austin FX3, a Ghia-bodied 1959 Fiat 500 Jolly, a 1960 BMW Isetta, and a 1971 Lotus Seven. That has to be someone's idea of a perfect four-car garage.  One of the most significant cars in the collection lurks in the far corner of the main hall, which is located a level below the entrance. At first glance, it's a kitted-out Renault 4CV with auxiliary lights, a racing number on the front end, and a period-correct registration number issued in the Bouches-du-Rhone department of France. It doesn't look all that different than the later, unmodified 4CV parked right next to it. Here's what's special about it: this is one of the small handful of Type 1063 models built by Renault for competition.
