Properly stored year round and only driven in good weather. 1999 Mercedes Benz SL500 Conv ( built 7/99 - late production) w/ 52900 miles - Very elegant - White / Gray roof / Gray interior. Everybody that knows this car says it still looks far newer than a 99 car. It is an awesome, non-smoking, 2 owner ( Dealer or European serviced ), that has been babied, always garaged, and barely seen rain. It is in outstanding, all original condition. Never modified ( except wheels ) in any way whatsoever. I have all of the original paperwork, books, 3 orig. keys, tool kit, and windscreen ( see pic ). CAR NEEDS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The White exterior is in awesome condition, and has never had paint work. The moldings, handles, window glass, lettering, rubber seals, and all other exterior features are in crisp condition. The wheels are not discolored or corroded and the tires have good tread. The Gray soft top looks like new ( I did not take the hardtop off because you need 2 people around ) and all of the hydraulics that typically go bad have been replaced. Never run through an automatic car wash and always hand washed / waxed are a great part as to why it still looks so fabulous. No rust or wear to the undercarriage. A solid 9.5 on the outside. On the inside, the Dove Gray interior still looks, feels, and maintains a newer appeal. As you can see in the pics, the seats have always been covered, and the orig. floor mats have Benz mats over them. The door panels, carpeting, dash, center console, faceplates, etc. are original. All of the interior buttons / switches ( power windows, door locks, cruise, antenna, and 6 way power seats ) work without issue. The stereo system w/ multi CD still plays perfect. The undercarriage is dry, spotless, and rust free too. A 9.75 inside. Mechanically, it starts, idles, and drives smoothly as a "well-oiled" machine should. Service is up to date - a/c, belts, hoses, fluids all changed / maintained at the proper intervals, along with convertible top hydraulics. The engine compartment is extra clean, and it performs without hesitation. No corner has been cut or expense spared. The next owner will have years of enjoyable and trouble free use, turning heads when you pull up or drive by.

Did BMW really win the luxury car sales race?
Sun, Feb 14 2016As anyone who follows our monthly By The Numbers series already knows, the luxury car sales race in the United States was close all of last year as BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz seesawed up and down for sales supremacy. At the end of the year, it was BMW on top of the standings with 346,023 total sales. Or was it? According to data released by Polk, comparing the actual number of vehicles registered between the three top luxury players in the US paints a slightly different picture. Polk's data suggests that only 335,259 BMWs were registered in 2015, compared to 340,392 Lexus models. Why the disparity? It's all a matter of timing. Actual end consumers buy new cars, in almost all cases, from a franchised dealer. BMW delivered 346,023 vehicles in 2015, but only 335,259 of them were registered by their new owners. Presumably, those 11,000 BMWs did (or will) end up registered in the driveways of consumers, but they hadn't before January 1, 2016. Lexus General Manager Jeff Bracken wrote in an email to Automotive News, "Luxury sales leadership as measured by vehicle registrations is important to Lexus as it represents actual consumers engaging directly with our dealers." Of course, it goes without saying that we'll be paying keen attention to the 2016 luxury car sales race as it unfolds. If it's anything like it was in 2015, it'll come down to the wire, and even then may not be entirely clear. Mercedes-Benz previews its curvy sports-car and design future
Fri, Jan 27 2017Suggesting creases are passe for automotive design, Mercedes showed off ideas for its future styling directions this week at a forum in Germany, including previews of upcoming sports cars and sedans. We see images of a curvy sports car study (the silver car) with huge wheel arches flared out almost like pontoons. There's also what appears to be a rear-engine hypercar (white car); we've been reading reports about it for months. Additionally, there's a red sporty saloon, as Mercedes calls it, also among the photos. It features prominent rounded fenders and a bold horizontal grille. Mercedes also previewed its upcoming A-Class, in what it calls the Aesthetics A sculpture, which looks like a car covered in a red sheet. Though Mercedes says this is its next step to a purer design, creases and strong lines are still evident on the sides. Related Video:
Race Recap: Abu Dhabi GP is reversals, luck, leanness and last dances
Mon, Nov 24 2014We weren't sure if Alter Ego Nico Rosberg, the one who flew into Brazil and showed Mercedes AMG Petronas teammate Lewis Hamilton that he knew also knew how to grab an entire race weekend by the scruff of the neck, arrived in Abu Dhabi. In both Friday practice sessions Hamilton showed Rosberg the way. Then on Saturday, Alter Ego Rosberg took over, taking the last Free Practice session and then pole position by a whopping four-tenths of a second over Hamilton. Thanks to the gimmicky and soon-to-be-obliterated spectre of double points, if Rosberg won the race and Hamilton finished lower than second, the World Championship would remain in German hands. Behind Hamilton came the Williams duo, again, with Valtteri Bottas ahead of Felipe Massa. Daniil Kvyat did swell to put his Toro Rosso in fifth, Jenson Button was just as swell getting his McLaren into sixth. Kimi Raikkonen outqualified his Ferrari teammate Fernando Alonso for the third time this year, the pair taking seventh and eighth on the grid. Kevin Magnussen lined the second McLaren up in ninth, Jean-Eric Vergne making the top ten for Toro Rosso in his last race for the team. To be clear, that was the final grid for race: Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel had both qualified in the top ten but were sent to the back of the grid when their Infiniti Red Bull Racing front wings were deemed illegal. They'd start from the pit lane, which was still ahead of Romain Grosjean in the Lotus, who took so many penalties for new engine components that he started the race in Turkey. At lights-out on Sunday, well, it was pretty much lights out. That's when Hamilton got the start of the year, bolting off the line so quickly it didn't take him 100 meters to get in front of Rosberg. The Brit took Turn 1 in the lead, then laid more than a second into the German on the first lap. Rosberg kept close, about 2.5 seconds back, but it was Hamilton's race to lose and everyone knew it; barring a reliability issue or the kind of driving mistake Hamilton hasn't made all year, Britain would have its fourth double world champion. Rosberg was left asking his engineer what kind of strategy they might use to claim first place. That reliability issue did come, but it struck Rosberg on Lap 26 when his entire Energy Recovery System failed, robbing him of 160 horsepower and taxing his brakes.
