1987 Mercedes Benz SL 560. I purchased the car last year as a restoration project. The odometer shows 146,188 miles but was broken when I purchased the car, so not sure as to the exact milage on the vehicle. It has a clean car fax, body has no rust, dents, or scratches, paint is good but shows some fading in areas. The chrome is good. Grey leather seats, with drivers seats showing some wear (a slight separation at seam and minor cracking), radio is a third party and needs replacing, original dash has cracks and has been covered with a replacement dash cap, carpets are good, with no tears or stains, replacement top is in great shape, although looks to need some adjustments to the fit, both sun visors are missing, car runs and drives well, has minor oil leak, minor transmission leak, insulation under the hood was replaced earlier this year, rear brakes replaced last year, tires all have good tread, and new battery. This car would make a great restoration project. Due to work load, I am not able to dedicate the time and money necessary to get the car back to pristine condition. Once restored, this car will be a beautiful weekend cruiser!

2014 Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid for fat cats frugal with fuel
Thu, 12 Sep 2013Judging by how long we waited to get a clear shot of the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid, you'd have thought hybrid cars were only driven by Terminators and that the technology arrived only 48 hours ago through a wormhole in the Mercedes stand. The newest member of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class hybrid band - joining the S400 Hybrid and S350 BlueTEC Hybrid, it hits notes like a 5.5-second sprint from standstill to 62 miles per hour, up to 19 miles of ion-powered running and uses three liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in Europe (78.41 mpg US, but our mpg test cycle is different than their mpg test cycle).
The lump up front is a turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6, the lump in back - note the reduction in trunk space - is a pack of lithium-ion batteries that juice an 80-kilowatt electric motor. Other than having four drive options for controlling electric drive and battery usage, it's all S-Class all the time, with leather-covered everything and those mountainous thrones that bring to mind words like "Archduke" and "Papal."

13-year-old boy swipes dad's Mercedes, drives across Europe
Wed, 16 Jan 2013After an argument with his adoptive parents that resulted in them taking away his mobile phone, an angry 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in Italy and headed straight to Poland to meet his biological sister. But instead of taking the train or hitching a ride, like most on the run, the young man (an accomplished go-kart racer and car enthusiast) grabbed the keys to his father's Mercedes-Benz and jumped behind the wheel for an impromptu road trip.
With less than 200 euros (about $270) in his wallet and a passport in his pocket, the youngster managed to put more than 500 miles between himself and his distraught parents, crossing two international borders in the process, before German police nabbed him just shy of the Polish border. According to reports, the vehicle was tracked - it wasn't his driving that alerted authorities to his location.
Reunited with his mother and father, who traveled to Germany to retrieve both their son and the vehicle, the young man apologized and acknowledged his error. As a result of his actions, social workers will increase checks on the family and we can be sure his parents are now hiding the keys.
