See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"Mechanically in very good shape; some scratches and very minor rust. Paint is still shiny. Engine is very powerful, pulls strong. Transmission shifts fine but requires finesse unless you are trying to push it to the limit. A few cosmetic details but this car is solid. One piece of trim missing on passenger side front; lower trim is inside car and just needs to be re-installed I think. Driver's seat has a rough area that could use a patch. Carpet is excellent, trunk and rear interiors are immaculate. Original AM/FM stereo readout is a little worn out but sounds good and play tapes perfectly. Engine compartment is excellent. Hard top and soft top both are in great shape. Third brake light (on trunk) has damage."

This is the classic Mercedes-Benz convertible that was produced for decades with minor modifications.  A great car from a great brand.  This two-seater has a surprising amount of power for a "little car" because it's got an eight-cylinder engine. Wish I didn't have to sell it, but I got laid off from my job and need the money.

Red interior on the car holds up well with the rare metallic tan "Champagne" exterior color. The carpet is in great shape, and the back "rear seat" storage area and trunk look brand new therefore hardly used for any reason.

Comes with a hard top (also Champagne color) that has glass side windows and a glass rear window. It lifts off with a special tool -- included -- and there's still the soft top (standard black color) which is in great condition too if you find yourself needing it.

Air conditioner blows cold right from the get-go. The controls aren't as fancy as modern day Mercedes, but that was then, this is now. A few lights on the dashboard need attention but my mechanic checked out the functionality and wasn't concerned.

The car has a lot life left in it. Clearly it needs a little maintenance though, and most of what it needs is some cosmetics after all this years. There are some light scratches in many places, but before doing a whole paintjob, I'd fix some of the very minor rust edges and some bubbling that is apparent. It's a solid car but after this many years of use, it's bound to have issues like this. Very inexpensive work needed; even a beginner could handle it.

Note that the paint is still in great shape except for the scratches which it's hard to see in the photos. The areas where it needs paint are on the passenger side and you can see in those photos. However it's easy to see how shiny the rest of the paint still is, because if you look at the photo of the hood, for example, the refection of a yellow-leaved tree on the left side of the hood is reflected throughout. (You can see the same reflection in the chrome of the bumper on the left side.)

Consumer Reports selling its road-tested roadsters [w/video]

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

Here's a chance to acquire a celebrity-owned vehicles, and this time at a discount instead of a premium. So the celebrity in this case is Consumer Reports, that magazine that could be equally adored and abhored by car enthusiasts. CR buys all of its test vehicles and usually finds willing second owners within its own ranks, but its opening its small used-car lot to the public. On the forecourt are four roadsters: an automatic 2012 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic with 6,600 miles for $36,500, a manual 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i with 8,400 miles for $45,000, a manual 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 for $39,500 and a manual 2013 Porsche Boxster with 7,000 miles for $48,000.
Those numbers mean a savings of $9,000 to $10,000 before haggling - each car is listed with an "Asking price" so there could be some wiggle room if you show up with pockets full of dough and eyes full of serious intent. Since the money CR earns from the sales go back into the magazine's budget to buy more test cars, however, it probably won't take any oddball trades, so you can forget about getting any purchasing help from that track-day AMC Javelin project on blocks in the back yard.
The vehicles have been taken care of and spiffed up for sale; buyers will take delivery at the CR test track in East Haddam, Connecticut and get a tour of the facilities. While you're there they'll even take you on a lap around the track so you can feel how your car handles when driven by one of its testers. They will probably not help you with advice on which toaster and dehumidifier to buy - you'll still need to get a subscription for that. Have a look at the video below to see a day in the life of a CR test car.

Recharge Wrap-up: KillaJoule hits 270 mph; Mercedes B-Class ED gets PlugShare

Wed, Sep 24 2014

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive will get its own version of the PlugShare charging-station locator app. Developed by Recargo with the help of Daimler, the vehicle-specific app will be integrated into the car's navigation system. The system maps the location of nearby charging stations from various networks. So far, Mercedes-Benz doesn't offer a universal pay service for the various charging networks, like those offered by BMW and Nissan. Read more at Green Car Reports. HyperSolar uses solar energy to make hydrogen from water. Without using electrolyzers, HyperSolar uses a photochemical process to separate and capture the hydrogen in the water, which can then be used for clean energy, such as automotive fuel cells. The solar devices are submerged in water inside a container, and sunlight powers the device to free the hydrogen. HyperSolar claims that its process is more efficient and cost effective than other methods used to produce hydrogen from water. See some demonstrations in the videos below and learn more at HyperSolar's website. Eva Hakansson drove the KillaJoule electric motorcycle to a top speed of 270.224 miles per hour. After a computer model showed a possibility of about 270 mph, the team took the motorcycle with sidecar out to the salt flats for Mike Cook's Shootout. Everything went smoothly, and Hakansson easily surpassed speeds of the 249.1-mph world record she set a few weeks ago. The team is calling it quits for the season, but will make some tweaks to the KillaJoule in hopes of getting 300 mph out of the red bullet next year. Mercedes spent ˆ250 million to win Formula One titles last year

Thu, Feb 5 2015

Success in Formula One requires skill, diligence, commitment and ingenuity. It also takes truckloads of money. In the case of Mercedes in last year's world championship, in which it took both the drivers' and constructors' titles in dominant style, those truckloads came to ˆ250 million last season alone – equivalent to over $285m in dead presidents. A report from Germany's own Auto Motor und Sport details the staggering investment that Mercedes made in order to get to the winner's circle last season. After 15 seasons with McLaren netting one constructors' and three drivers' titles, Mercedes motorsport chief Norbert Haug convinced the Daimler board late in 2009 to take over the Brawn GP team that had just won the championship. Because the team would be getting a large payout from Bernie Ecclestone as the returning champions the following year, and with sponsors lined up, Daimler only had to pony up a small portion of a smaller budget: in 2010 (its first season under the Mercedes banner), the team ran on a budget of "only" ˆ153 million ($175m). Over the course of the following seasons, though, the team's share of the TV revenues from Formula One Management went down as Mercedes struggled to climb back up the standings, but successive advocates (including Haug, Ross Brawn and Niki Lauda) successfully convinced the bean-counters in Stuttgart to ratchet up the payments. By 2012, the budget was expanded to ˆ200 million, and further climbed to ˆ250 million in 2013 and 2014. Fortunately for Daimler, the investment was starting to pay off by then as the team finished second in the constructors' standings in 2013, bringing ˆ74 million in from Ecclestone's coffers to cover roughly a third of the budget. With Malaysian oil giant Petronas alone kicking in upwards of another ˆ30 million per season as title sponsor (as of 2009 when it signed on), and untold millions more coming in from other partners, it looks like the actual cost to Daimler for securing both world titles and a winning reputation was actually more like hundred million or so.
