1985 Mercedes Benz 380 Sl Roadster Project Or Parts on 2040-cars
Sanford, Maine, United States
SELLING AT NO RESERVE Up for auction is this 1985 Mercedes Benz 380 SL roadster. This is the last year of the 380 model. V-8 auto loaded. Teal in color with a cream colored leather interior. This car belonged to a friend of mine who had owned it for the past 15 years. It has been in his barn , off the road since 08. He had planned on doing a restoration on the car but with so many other irons in the fire he decided to let it go. Any work that he would have had done on it would have had to be farmed out and he just didnt have the patience for it. As you see in the pics some of the left side fender parts were removed and he actually had removed the front fender. There was some rust around the bolt holes, so he pried it off . Realizing this wasn't for him he stopped working on it and left it to sit. I pulled the car out of storage , got the dust off and put in a fresh battery . The car fired right up. A lot off sunflower seeds came shooting out of the exhaust so i guess the critters made a home. Motor runs really nice , trans goes into gear fine and I yard drove the car. One brake line has been leaking but where it is a dual master car it still stops. You do get a little puff of smoke on the initial start . I would say the valve seals are probably getting tired. I asked mike how the car ran and drove when he put it up and he said it performed beautifully. He said that he went on a vacation to the blue ridge mountains in Virginia just before the car was stored . He had some service work just before the trip. Had double roller timeing chain conversion done , tune up and general going over. The car does have rust issues . Both front fenders need replacement , some rust spots on fronts of lower rear quarters, a portion of the front rocker panel drivers side where the fender bolts down low and the trunk lid. We have 2 new front fenders and 2 lower quarter patch panels that will be included with the sale. He paid $750 for those parts alone. All parts that were removed will be included. car has both hard top and soft top. Soft top is black. Battery will not be included as it does not fit the holder properly . Everything still works on the car. I feel the car is fixable depending on how nice you want to make it or would be an excellant parts candidate. We have a Maine registration and proper dealer transfer paper work for a smooth transaction.PLEASE BID ONLY IF YOU INTEND TO FOLLOW THRU WITH THE SALE. Carlsson turns Mercedes-Benz SLK into 610-HP hill-climb clawer
Mon, 28 Jan 2013Carlsson's race-tuned versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLK have been taking checkered flags for years, and we won't be surprised if its SLK 340 hill climber fares any different. Developed by multiple German and Swiss hill climb champion Reto Meisel, the carbon-bodied SLK 340 with lightweight brakes and a closed underbody weighs 1,716 pounds. Propelling that tiny bit of weight is a 3.4-liter V8 from Judd with 610 horsepower, and it rolls on 18-inch wheels shod in Avon tires.
It will debut at the Geneva Motor Show before beginning its racing campaigns in the summer. This one won't just tear up roads in Europe, though - Meisel says he plans on bringing it to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The press release below has more details.
Trump calls Germans 'very bad,' vows to stop their car sales in US
Fri, May 26 2017TAORMINA, Italy -Talks between President Trump and other leaders of the world's rich nations at the G7 summit on Friday were expected to be "robust" and "challenging" after he had lambasted NATO allies and condemned Germans as "very bad" for their trade policies. Trump's confrontational remarks in Brussels, on the eve of the two-day summit in the Mediterranean resort town of Taormina, cast a pall over a meeting at which America's partners had hoped to coax him into softening his stances on trade and climate change. According to German media reports, Trump condemned Germany as "very bad" for its trade policies in a meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, signaling he might take steps to limit sales of German cars in the United States. "The Germans are bad, very bad," he reportedly told Juncker. "Look at the millions of cars that they're selling in the USA. Horrible. We're gonna stop that." White House economic adviser Gary Cohn on Friday confirmed the reports. "He said they're very bad on trade, but he doesn't have a problem with Germany." Cohn said Trump had pointed out during the meeting that his father had German roots in order to underscore the message that he had nothing against the German people. Trump's spokesman Sean Spicer said Trump had "tremendous respect" for Germany and had only complained about unfair trade practices in the meeting. Juncker called the reports in Spiegel Online and Sueddeutsche Zeitung exaggerated. The reports translated "bad" with the German word "boese," which can also mean "evil," leading to confusion when English-language media translated the German reports back into English. "The record has to be set straight," Juncker said, noting that the translation issue had exaggerated the seriousness of what Trump had said. "It's not true that the president took an aggressive approach when it came to the German trade surplus." "He said, like others have, that (the United States) has a problem with the German surplus. So he was not aggressive at all," Juncker added. In January, Trump threatened to slap a 35 percent tax on German auto imports. "If you want to build cars in the world, then I wish you all the best. You can build cars for the United States, but for every car that comes to the USA, you will pay 35 percent tax," he said. "I would tell BMW that if you are building a factory in Mexico and plan to sell cars to the USA, without a 35 percent tax, then you can forget that." Last year, the U.S.
Watch this perfectly nice Mercedes get crushed by a front-end loader
Mon, 25 Mar 2013In a world where the YouTube hoax continues to thrive, it's hard to know what to think of this little vid, but here are the facts as we know them: a coupe that looks like a first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK gets crushed by a giant front-end loader. There you have it.
Our questions arise in the aftermath - we know industrial resource machinery is heavy, but the Benz gets squashed so flat we wonder if someone's trying to play a joke on us. We hear that the white coupe may have been the heavy-equipment operator's foreman's car, but who knows? The on-camera interview seems awfully conveniently placed, yes? See for yourself in the video below and then leave us your thoughts in Comments.
