1978 Mercedes 450sl Rare Red With Black Int, No Reserve, Like Porsche, Jaguar Vw on 2040-cars
Scotts Valley, California, United States
The Mercedes-Benz SL name has always represented a high level of style and sophistication. Based on my knowledge, the SL family starting around 1972 existed with minimal changes until 1989. Offered for your consideration is this 1978 Mercedes 450SL Roadster at No Reserve, High Bidder Wins! This car was so ahead of its time being a 1978. The car has 184,299 miles showing; however I can't verify the accuracy as I have never driven the car to see if the speedometer is working. This is a very rare car as most enthusiasts know most came from the factory Red over Tan and this one was special ordered Red over Black interior! This, in my opinion, is by far the most stunning color combination known to exist. While this car is considered a project, it has TONS of upside potential. This car was owned by a nice lady who recently sold us the car. I brought the car home and the wife said "no" so it has to go. Realistically speaking, I don't have the time, or garage to properly take care of it. The red was resprayed many years ago and it has various stages of patina, paint chips, scratches, minor rust bubbles, indentations, etc. The chrome all shines brilliantly for being original and 36 years young. The last time the car was driven was approximately a year ago where it completed a 50 mile trip by the previous owner, I was told it ran good and shifted properly (at that time) It has a 1 year old battery, yesterday I fully charged the battery and it started right up. The engine sounded good, it smelled of old gas and wouldn't rev up like it should. I suspect a clogged fuel filter or maybe fuel injectors. As for now, it's being sold as a project car. I'm not sure the mechanical status as I'm not a mechanic and never had a mechanic inspect the car so it's being sold as is where is and the buyer takes all responsibly for smogging the vehicle etc. I have the original hardtop that goes with the car as well, as seen in the pictures. The interior is in decent shape for its age, a minor split on the dash and some wear on the driver's seat. Door panels look nice, looks like the original radio was removed at one point as shown in the pictures with some exposed radio wires. I'm no expert so I took many pictures to show the overall condition of the car. I feel this is a perfect start for the next lucky owner to take to the next level. I have no idea the value on these cars so I'm selling the car as is with NO RESERVE and the high bidder WINS. World wide shipping is available. Look forward to assisting the new buyers in a smooth transaction. We have a Clear California title and can assist with overseas buyers. Thanks and good luck.

Autoblog's Editors' Picks: Our complete list of the best new vehicles
Mon, May 13 2024It's not easy to earn an “EditorsÂ’ Picks” at Autoblog as part of the rating and review process that every new vehicle goes through. Our editors have been at it a long time, which means weÂ’ve driven and reviewed virtually every new car you can go buy on the dealer lot. There are disagreements, of course, and all vehicles have their strengths and weaknesses, but this list features what we think are the best new vehicles chosen by Autoblog editors. We started this formal review process back in 2018, so there's quite of few of them now. So what does it mean to be an EditorsÂ’ Pick? In short, it means itÂ’s a car that we can highly recommend purchasing. There may be one, multiple, or even zero vehicles in any given segment that we give the green light to. What really matters is that itÂ’s a vehicle that weÂ’d tell a friend or family member to go buy if theyÂ’re considering it, because itÂ’s a very good car. The best way to use this list is is with the navigation links below. Click on a segment, and you'll quickly arrive at the top rated pickup truck or SUV, for example. Use the back button to return to these links and search in another segment, like sedans. If youÂ’ve been keeping up with our monthly series of the latest vehicles to earn EditorsÂ’ Pick status, youÂ’re likely going to be familiar with this list already. If not, welcome to the complete list that weÂ’ll be keeping updated as vehicles enter (and others perhaps exit) the good graces of our editorial team. We rate a new car — giving it a numerical score out of 10 — every time thereÂ’s a significant refresh or if it happens to be an all-new model. Any given vehicle may be impressive on a first drive, but we wait until itÂ’s in the hands of our editors to put it through the same type of testing as every other vehicle that rolls through our test fleet before giving it the EditorsÂ’ Pick badge. This ensures consistency and allows more voices to be heard on each individual model. And just so you donÂ’t think weÂ’ve skipped trims or variants of a model, we hand out the EditorsÂ’ Pick based on the overarching model to keep things consistent. So, when you read that the 3 Series is an EditorsÂ’ Pick, yes, that includes the 330i to the M3 and all the variants in between. If thereÂ’s a particular version of that car we vehemently disagree with, we make sure to call that out.
BMW expects China to pass US as its top market in 2013
Thu, 11 Jul 2013When you combine two billion citizens, 100 cities with more than a million inhabitants and an economy that's as unrestrained as Jim Cramer on an Adderall binge, China's explosive auto industry growth shouldn't be a huge surprise. Audi already lists the communist country as its largest market, while Mercedes-Benz is expecting it to be there in the next few years. Now, according to a report from Automotive News, BMW is expecting the People's Republic to overtake the United States in sales by the end of 2013.
We already discovered the extent that BMW is going to in establishing a dedicated Chinese stronghold, when we explored BMW's Shanghai-based DesignWorks studio ahead of April's Shanghai Motor Show. And while we argued that DesignWorks Shanghai hasn't really borne fruit, it isn't due to a lack of sales.
BMW China has seen a 16-percent jump in year-over-year sales, lead by a 28-percent gain in 5 Series sales. Part of BMW's growth strategy comes from an ever-expanding dealership network. Remember those 100 cities we mentioned with over one million people? According to Karsten Engel, CEO of BMW's Chinese operations, those 100-million-plus city dwellers don't have access to a premium dealership.
Daimler boss says fuel cell vehicles will be disappointing for at least 10 years
Tue, Jan 21 2014Daimler AG CEO Dieter Zetsche is pretty confident about the imminence of self-driving cars. Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles? Not so much. He didn't even get into the possibility of self-driving fuel-cell vehicles, but we're okay taking future technologies one at a time. Zetsche, in an interview from the Detroit Auto Show last week, said the automotive industry is about a decade away from avoiding disappointing experiences with production fuel-cell vehicles, In Auto News says. Zetsche was quick to note that the Mercedes-Benz parent entered into a fuel-cell partnership with Ford and Nissan early last year in an effort to split costs and speed things along, with the expectation that the group would develop something together by 2017, but even that won't be able to smooth things out fully. Toyota and Hyundai have said they'd have their own production vehicles on the road sooner than that. Multi-corporation-partnerships notwithstanding, Zetsche bemoaned the high costs, lack of vehicle volume and minimal refueling infrastructure as the proverbial roadblocks to more rapid development and adoption of fuel-cell vehicles. As it is, the US has just 10 publicly accessible hydrogen refueling stations, eight of which are in Southern California, according to the US Department of Energy. As for autonomous automobiles, Zetsche was more upbeat. Daimler already has what it calls the "Distronic" cruise control system that includes an automatic braking feature and has successfully driven a car 60 miles with "with relatively modest adjustments to the existing onboard technology."
