Offered for sale is an absolutely stunning, mechanically excellent, effectively one family owned 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SL with an amazing 18k original miles and finished in rare and desirable Astral Silver (DB 735) over a red leather interior. Delivered new on February 10th, 1976 by Mission Viejo Imports to Mr. and Mrs. Eddy O’Brien of San Diego, the car would remain in their care for 29 years, used only sparingly as a weekend driver by Mr. O’Brien until his death in 2005. Having not had any children, he willed his car collection (including this SL) to his godson, a resident of Prescott Valley, AZ. When he took possession of the 450SL it had a mere 17k miles on the odometer and he continued his godfather’s limited use, accruing less than 1,000 miles in his nine years of ownership before we were able to acquire it earlier this summer. As the pictures show, the previous owners’ care has yielded an exceptionally beautiful and incredibly preserved example, undoubtedly one of the finest, lowest mileage R107s in the world. Free of any accidents, the original body is entirely straight, retaining uniform factory correct panel fits and gaps and cloaked in a gorgeous, factory correct Astral Silver finish that is deep, lustrous and consistent, marred only by the most negligible of imperfections, one of which are significant enough to appear in any of the pictures or detract from the car’s considerable overall appeal. The brightwork is in excellent original condition, as is all of the glass and rubber, and the car retains its original color-matched hub-capped steel wheels, a somewhat uncommon option for mid-1970s examples but one that is in our opinion far superior aesthetically as compared to the more common “Bundt” style wheels. Neither the hard top nor the soft top were ever used with any regularity and they are both consequently in excellent original condition. Having spent its entire life in Southern California and Arizona, the car’s original undercarriage is entirely dry and solid. The car’s interior is entirely original and equally as clean, the red leather seats exhibiting only the mild patina one would expect of a very low mileage, nearly 40 year old car and the carpets and interior panels nearly flawless. Everything works, including the power windows, power antenna, original Becker radio and air conditioning system, which still blows ice cold. The trunk is clean and entirely original, housing the spare wheel, battery box and complete original tool kit. The car also comes with all of its original books and manuals (including the stamped service booklet), a stack of service records and some of the original sales documents. Despite its sparing use, the car was always professionally maintained and is also mechanically strong, the original, numbers matching engine starting easily, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the automatic transmission’s gears. Compression is excellent across all cylinders, the car drives and brakes straight and true, and the ride quality is excellent. We recently took the car on a +/-100 mile weekend jaunt up to the Santa Ynez Valley for an afternoon of wine tasting, and I’m happy to report that the car performed beautifully without any issues to note, despite the nearly 100 degree temperature. The 4.5L V8 is smooth and torquey and the car’s a joy from behind the wheel, whether tooling around town, winding through the canyons or bombing down the highway. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a true investment grade R107 SL that checks all the right boxes for the discerning collector or weekend enthusiast: incredibly low original mileage, gorgeous and desirable color combination, strong original mechanicals and an excellent, effectively one family owned Southern California provenance. If you’re in the market for a collector quality SL, it’s unlikely that you’ll ever find a better example. We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to discuss it further and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call us at 805-708-2404. GOODMAN

Race recap: 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix was the pits
Mon, Jul 25 2016The Hungarian Grand Prix hasn't seen a race this calculated since 2012, when Lewis Hamilton – driving for McLaren – led from pole position to the checkered flag. We don't expect massive action from the Hungaroring, but Hamilton's first win for Mercedes in 2013, the thrilling wet mess in 2014, and Ferrari's surprising dominance in 2015 made us hope for more on-track commotion this year. Hungary denied us that. Hamilton parked his Mercedes-AMG Petronas in second on the grid but stole the lead through Turn 1 and never looked back. Teammate Nico Rosberg yo-yoed behind him in second place, getting into DRS range on a few occasions but never close enough to pass. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo kept the leading duo honest, but the Aussie couldn't put genuine fear into the German team and finished third. This is the third year in a row for Ricciardo on the Hungary podium. The pits provided our few scraps of excitement. During a stretch when Ricciardo managed to close on Rosberg, Mercedes told Hamilton to speed up. When Hamilton said he couldn't go faster, Mercedes said they'd pit second-place Rosberg first instead. Suddenly, Hamilton found the extra pace. Ricciardo pitted in early, hoping that fresh tires and fast laps could allow him to pass one or both Mercedes drivers when they pitted, but once Hamilton hit the throttle the Red Bull couldn't respond. Further down the lineup, Jenson Button came in on Lap 5 so McLaren could fix his brake pedal problem. The radio exchange before the stop included one forbidden instruction to Button, though, so the Englishman had to return to the pits for a drive-through penalty. Renault's Jolyon Palmer beat Force India's Nico Hulkenberg in a straight-up pit stop battle on Lap 40, but threw the good work away on Lap 49 with a spin on track that cost him three places. A pit wall miscommunication meant the Force India pit crew wasn't ready for Sergio Perez when the Mexican arrived for his second stop on Lap 43. And Daniel Kvyat's regrettable run at Toro Rosso continued, first with car issues, then a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Sebastian Vettel brought his Ferrari home fourth, sniffing Ricciardo's gearbox at the flag but unable to get around the Red Bull. Max Verstappen enacted a replay of the final stages of the Spanish Grand Prix, finishing fifth by holding Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen behind for 19 laps.
Mercedes-AMG GT3 thunders into Geneva debut [w/video]
Tue, Mar 3 2015Mercedes-Benz took the opportunity to debut its replacement for the SLS AMG GT3 at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show today, showing off the new AMG GT3. Unlike the road car on which it's based, Mercedes ditched the turbocharged V8 for its awesome 6.3-liter V8, which also powered the GT3's predecessor. That's far from the only change found for the racing variant of the new model, however. Mercedes conducted a serious overhaul of the car's aerodynamics, fitting a huge rear wing and an equally enormous front splitter. The front bumper is also home to a quartet of winglets, which add even more downforce to the front end. As we suspected in our original post on the GT3, the rear of the car has been fitted with a none-too-subtle rear diffuser. The cooling needs of the track have also been enhanced, courtesy of large ducts on the fenders and a deep vent in the hood, while meaty slats sit over the front wheel wells. In addition to the rear diffuser, large ducts have been fitted to both sides of the rear bumper. The AMG GT3 looks like a compelling offer in the world of customer racers, although we won't know that for certain until it hits the track for some competition. That should be later this year at the earliest, as Mercedes is targeting late 2015 for the first customer deliveries. Check out our live gallery of images of the new AMG GT3, direct from the floor of the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. World premiere in Geneva for spectacular AMG racing car All-out attack : the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 Affalterbach. Mercedes-AMG will ring in the 2015 motorsport season at the beginning of March with the sonorous sound of the V8 engine: the new Mercedes-AMG GT3, with which the Mercedes-Benz sports car and high-performance brand is systematically expanding its motorsports presence, will be making its debut appearance at the Geneva Motor Show. Developed to comply with the FIA's GT3 race rules, the racing car will compete in the world's most hotly contested customer race series. Cutting-edge racing technology and spectacular design predestine the new challenger for victories. The new GT3 is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT, which is being launched in just a few days' time. Following an intensive test phase, the new AMG racing car will be shipped to the first customer teams at the end of 2015. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 will blaze new trails in customer sports with its intelligent vehicle concept.
Mercedes S-Class Cabrio caught nearly naked
Thu, Feb 19 2015The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a handsome car, and its new two-door variant is positively dashing. Considering that, did you really think Mercedes would shake things up when it finally came time to drop the top on its flagship luxury model? Nope, neither did we. This is the S-Class Cabriolet, and from the beltline down, it's basically the same fixed-roof car we tested back in October – same grille, same headlights, same twin character lines in the profile. This is not a bad thing. We're betting it'll wear very similar taillights to the S-Class Coupe, although it's difficult to tell on the more heavily camo'd example of the luxurious droptop. Differences, meanwhile, are kept to the absolute minimum. The windshield looks more aggressively raked, and the inclusion of a canvas roof has softened the Coupe's svelte profile, but other than that, there aren't many changes at all. Expect the S-Class Sedan and Coupe's engine lineup to inform the powertrain strategy for the Cabriolet, meaning a base S550 with a 4.7-liter, twin-turbocharged V8. It's unclear if AMG variants will be offered, although we wouldn't bet against it. Our spies report that the S-Class Cabrio will saunter into dealers later this year, eager to steal the lunch money of the aging BMW 6 Series Convertible. We're betting on a European auto show debut, so keep an eye open at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. If not there, Frankfurt seems like a likely destination for the new droptop.
