We are pleased to present this absolutely unbelievably GORGEOUS Mercedes-Benz R500 4Matic. These cars are quite special for many reasons, and are becoming increasingly difficult to find. On top of that, it has had the same owner since it was brand new, making it a Carfax Certified One Owner Vehicle! This owner purchased it brand new, and traded it back into the very same Mercedes dealership when they were ready to move on to a new Mercedes-Benz. The R Class is very rare in the USA in general, and the R500 is especially rare. I believe they only made it for two years, and they provide quite a bit more performance, as well as significantly better reliability than the R350. The R500 uses the proven Twin-Spark V8 engine that Mercedes has been making for quite some time, rather than the very new at the time 3.5 V6 which did have timing chain issues in the first few years of production. In fact, my father drives an R350, and had to have the engine rebuilt at about 100,000 miles. There are no such worries with the R500. Also, with over 300 horsepower, the R500 certain has quite a bit more power for spirited acceleration, as well as towing if you should desire. The R500s are very rarely seen on the road because their original price topped $80,000 with options. In fact, at the time of listing, this is the ONLY R500 on ebay.

The interior of the R500 is in incredibly good condition. It has Gray heated seats with beautiful walnut accents on the dash and door panels. The wood accents are trimmed with chrome strips for an added touch of elegance, which you won't find in the R350.The car has the Harman/Kardon LOGIC-7 audio system upgrade which sounds excellent and features more speakers than you can count, including a large subwoofer under the floor in the cargo area. It also has digital signal processing which allows the sound system to mimic the acoustics of various venus, and to taylor the audio for virtually any position in the car. There are also connections for headphones in the rear with individual controls which allow rear seat passengers to listen to a different source of audio. The car also has Sirius Radio. It also has a fully power panoramic moonroof which functions perfectly. Even the fabric sun shade operates with a switch. The previous owner of this car was definitely a non-smoker. The cigarette lighter hasn't even been used, and there is no odor at all. There is a cup holder that accommodates two beverages in the center console. This Mercedes has dual front airbags, as well as front side airbags positioned in the front and rear doors. There are also side curtain airbags for the front and rear passengers including the third row. Both front seats are, of course, fully power with controls on the sides of the seats. As you can see in the pics, there is some cracking starting on the lower outer section of the material on the drivers seat. This R Class also has the very, VERY rare multicontour seats. This is the only R Class that I've seen with them. They allow you to completely taylor the front seats to suit the ergonomics of your body. There are several air bladders within the seats which can be inflated and deflated to change the shape of the seat in any way you prefer. The controls are located on the front of the seat near the center console. The steering wheel is finished in matching wood which is also a fairly rare option. This R500 has the optional 6 Disc CD Changer in the glove box. There is also a single CD player hidden behind the navigation screen, as well as the DVD drive for the navigation system. It also has a very nice DVD-based navigation system which works well. On top of all of this, it has the keyless access and start system. You never have to remove the key from your pocket. When you walk up to the car and put your hand on the door handle, the doors automatically unlock as if by magic. When you get in the car, you simply press the engine start button, and the engine springs to life! The system does have a manual backup in case of emergency. The car has four zone climate control as well as fully electronic climate control for the rear passengers. Both the front and second row of seats are heated as well. The third row is incredibly easy to access by folding the middle seats out of the way by pulling one lever. Both rear rows of seats fold down to create a huge cargo area if necessary. And, last, but not least, the car has front and rear parking sensors with both audio and visual indication. There is a series of LEDs on the dash which indicate the local and proximity of objects in front of the car, and the display for the rear of the car is located on the ceiling above the third row seat and can be seen through the rear view mirror.

The exterior of this R500 is in incredible condition, and is Pewter Silver in color. It really makes the car stand out, and the condition of the paint is absolutely gorgeous. This car could EASILY pass for a car with 50k miles on it. Its condition is incredible! It has the 18"  wheels which are in nearly perfect condition. These particular wheels were exclusive to the V8 models, I believe. There is ABSOLUTELY NO RUST on the body of this car. This car was very well cared for by its owner, and it really shows. This car also spent its entire life in Maryland where there is virtually no winter, so rust would obviously not be an issue. Please note that in the pictures, there is a dent on the right rear door just in front of the door handle. There is also a very small chrome strip missing from the belt trim on the opposite rear door.

The tires are all matching and in great condition. They have plenty of tread left. The brakes are in  good shape and the car stops as it should. This R500 drives just like you'd expect a Mercedes to drive. It's very smooth, while still handling well. The engine and transmission operate properly. The full AirMatic system operates perfectly and does not lose pressure or lean ever. The full AirMatic system on these is a fairly rare option and allows you to control the ride height of the car, and it provides an excellent ride quality while giving extellent handling. It also has electronically controlled dampers which feature a sport mode as well as a comfort mode so that you can control the road feel. This is also quite rare for any R Class. This car was a trade-in at the Mercedes dealership. We purchased it from them to offer for sale to our ebay friends. This car is an incredible find, and is something that you would be delighted to own. The car was traded in on a new Mercedes.

In addition, we road-test every car we sell very extensively before offering it. If there are any issues with the car that are present, they will be mentioned in the auction. Because we road test the cars extensively, it is possible that the car may have more miles on it than when the auction was listed. We always encourage you to come check out the car in person before bidding or making an offer. This fee covers any           additional paperwork service, overnighting of paperwork, and dealer prep.  We can provide a temporary cardboard plate for out of state customers at no charge. Pennsylvania residents will need to pay sales tax between 6% and 7% depending upon your county of residence. There are also Pennsylvania fees for the registration, title, and license plate (unless you bring your own plate to transfer).

Inexpensive used cars are not at all the same as a brand new car, or certified pre-owned vehicle.  They are in no way flawless, or perfect. As noted above, we try our absolute best to disclose any issues which may be present on the car, however a car's condition is somewhat subjective and opinion based. Where door ding may be considered perfectly acceptable on a 10 year old car, it would never be acceptible on a car which is brand new.  Also, on higher-mileage used cars, it is important to remember that virtually any mechanical or non-mechanical component can fail at any time.  We cannot predict what components will fail in the future, or when they will fail.  This is simply the nature of older higher mileage used vehicles.  The best that we can do is assure that the car is operating properly at the time of purchase. This car is sold as-is, and we cannot be held responsible for any mechanical or non-mechanical failure.  Additionally, because we do not know the inspection requirements of other states, we cannot guarantee that this vehicle will pass any out-of-state inspections.

2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 First Drive | Fat cat money

Thu, Feb 18 2021

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Do you like the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, but just donÂ’t think itÂ’s fancy or expensive enough as it is? Maybe the AMG version is too audaciously sporty or you'd prefer a completely different flavor of garish. Maybe you donÂ’t want to be seen driving the GLS at all. If youÂ’re looking for the perfect GLS to be driven in, but need to make sure you look more like the type of fat cat to blow money on lavish, boozy dinners and decorative fountains than the pro baller who splurges on a home gym and tennis courts, Mercedes finally has the giant SUV just for you: the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600. Is this tongue-in-cheek straw man in any way indicative of an actual Maybach owner? Who knows. We can barely comprehend how rich someone might be who can afford this $161,525 ultra-luxury SUV (before any options) let alone actually know someone of such largesse. Nevertheless, the GLS upon which it's based is certainly no stranger to us. We first drove the GLS 470 in Austria's Tyrolean Alps, sampled the AMG GLS 63 in the Columbia River Gorge, and nominated its bouncy E-Active Body Control suspension for AutoblogÂ’s 2020 Technology of the Year Award. Most of the same ingredients are present in the Maybach 600, but just one look at this two-tone luxury liner requires you to rethink the scope of what the GLS can do. While the overall body style looks more or less the same, there was no mistaking our tester for an ordinary GLS, or even an extraordinary AMG model. The two-tone paint — Lunar Blue Metallic below, and Iridium Silver Metallic from the beltline up — shouts to passersby (in an aristocratic German accent, presumably) that thereÂ’s something different going on here. The optional wheels, which get their own Maybach design, measure an absolutely massive 23 inches. Perched on the nose is the nearly extinct Mercedes hood ornament. The final giveaway comes when you move in a little closer and see the Maybach badging on the grille, tailgate and D-pillars. But seriously, that paint job is something else. The exterior doesnÂ’t quite do justice to what awaits within. The driverÂ’s door opens to a rich, inviting and clearly technologically advanced cockpit. The dual screen dash housing the instrument panel and infotainment touchscreen is becoming familiar from GLS down to GLA, as are the multitude of controls on the wheel and center console with which one can easily interact with them.

Weekly Recap: Takeaways from the Frankfurt Motor Show

Sat, Sep 19 2015

We obsessively covered the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and naturally, we selected our favorites from this fall's biggest automotive event. Now that the dust has settled, we're looking ahead to what it all means. Here are three takeaways from the floor in Frankfurt. The Germans are serious about electric vehicles: It's a bit cliche to say BMW, Mercedes, and Audi have downplayed electrics in favor of other technologies, like diesels. For a time that may have been true, but those three companies, along with Porsche and Volkswagen, are emerging as leaders in EV development. That was on display in Frankfurt, when all of them revealed either all-electric or plug-in hybrid models. Gas prices are relatively low in the United States, but clearly the Germans are thinking long-term and globally. Everyone is serious about SUVs: You gotta have one, even if you're Bentley or Jaguar. It's 2015 and it's what consumers want. As Jaguar design director Ian Callum put it, "Not to be in the sector would be a little naive for the sake of purity." It's not just the flashy exotic luxury makers. Nissan showed the Gripz concept, which is rakish, radical, and meant to blend traits of SUVs and sports cars into a vehicle that really crosses over. Look for more, especially in the luxury sector, as Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin ramp up their own SUV efforts. There's no ceiling to the luxury market: Speaking of high-end cars, companies are continuing to invest in extravagant wares beyond just SUVs. Even during the recession, ultra-luxury makers remained relevant, and now they're back at full stride. In Frankfurt, that was illustrated by yet another S-Class model, the cabriolet, which will come in S550 and S63 AMG variants in the United States. Ferrari also showed off the 488 Spider, and Lamborghini opened up the Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder. Meanwhile, Bugatti's Vision Grand Turismo concept reminded enthusiasts that it's plotting life after the Veyron. European auto shows always draw the glitziest reveals from luxury makers, and this year didn't disappoint. OTHER NEWS & NOTES 2016 Honda Civic redesigned with snazzier style, turbo power The 10th-generation of the Honda Civic debuted this week at events in Los Angeles and Detroit ahead of its launch in the United States this fall as a 2016 model. Honda fortified the Civic with LED lights, an available turbo engine, and a more tech-laden cabin.

Mercedes teams with Pebble for smartwatch tech

Tue, 24 Dec 2013

Most automakers have realized by now that a good infotainment system is a must-have feature for many buyers, and have, as a result, invested increasing amounts of time and money developing these technologies. But some automakers are going above and beyond in-car entertainment and navigation technology by focusing on wearable technology as well.
Nissan has emerged as one such company, developing its own alternative to Google Glass and performance-oriented smartwatch. But Mercedes-Benz is also putting itself at the forefront of wearable tech - not by developing competing products to those designed by dedicated tech companies, but by working with them. The German automaker, as we recently reported, is developing its own app for Google Glass, and is now doing the same with smartwatches as well.
Set to be unveiled at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Mercedes has collaborated with Pebble Technologies to develop the Digital DriveStyle app. The system will display tell its wearer where the car is, whether the doors are locked and if it needs fuel. Inside the car it'll alert the driver to potential hazards coming up on the road, while making functions like re-routing the nav system, controlling the audio system or activating Siri that much easier.
