I am proud to offer the Ebay community exclusively this 2002 Mercedes-Benz G500. This will be our 512st vehicle listed and sold here on Ebaymotors.com . What began in 1999 as an experiment has now become a full time career!

The vehicle that we are offering for auction is a rare and highly sought after W463 G500.

"What, prey tell , is a W463?" one might ask.

Mercedes assigns a chassis family number to each vehicle that they build. MB typically builds 10 models on one platform chassis.

For example- The W463 series trucks began production in Graz, Austria in 1989 and are still being produced today. During this production , MB produced the four cylinder 200GE and 230GE, the six cylinder variants, 300GE, and G320 , additionally the V8 models, comprised of the 500GE and G500, and later G550 and the powerful G55 and G63, and also the Diesel versions, the 250GD, 300GD, 350GD and later the G300 and G400 CDI.

The W463 was available in either short or long wheelbase , and also as an open top cabriolet version. The long wheelbase G500 was the only W463 officially imported to the North American market and sold through MBUSA dealers.

All of the above mentioned trucks are virtually identical. The differences lie in the engine displacement and trim.

This G500 is a rare bird due to low sales. Less than 2,000 G500's were sold in North America for the 2002 model year. This is the only Everest green example that I have ever seen.

The current 2014 G550 looks nearly identical and carries a $137,000 MSRP price tag.

The vehicle that I am offering here today is a two owner vehicle purchased new at Mercedes-Benz of Fort Washington on 2-28-2002.

The vehicle has always been cared for properly and I have a fully documented history on the vehicle, including every service interval from new , until last serviced 1,300 miles ago. This G has never been serviced by anyone other than a Mercedes-Benz dealership.

The vehicle was purchased new in Fort Washington , PA and it received very methodical care by the MB dealership. The first owner serviced the truck every 3,000 miles or less, at the MB dealership.

The second owner purchased the car in 2006 when the truck had 42k miles. The second owner was an insurance agent in Oxford , Mississippi and he used the vehicle only occasionally over the next seven years, only logging 22k miles in seven years time. He kept the vehicle very well serviced at Mercedes-Benz of Memphis, where only the shop foreman is allowed to service the G wagons.

This vehicle is finished in #816 Everest Green metallic with a complimentary charcoal leather interior. Here is a link with a PDF file of the entire service history from day one. You will note that the history begins at one mile and last service was 63,361.

Current mileage is 65,231 . (I have the truck locked in my garage until the conclusion of this auction).

I operate my Ebaymotors.com business much like that of a mail order business. I send my cars all over the country. I deal only with 2 shippers and can efficiently send your vehicle ANYWHERE to you at minimal cost and hassle. My customers enjoy the convenience of buying from me. When you get your vehicle, it is ready to go. I change the oil and check all fluids before it leaves my office. You will receive a temporary operation permit good for 30 days.

I absolutely love Mercedes-Benz automobiles. I have been buying and selling them for my entire adult life. I have a small collection of cars, and I own over 20 Mercedes-Benz automobiles, personally.

The G500 is an unusual model, in that it could be considered a "time warp" vehicle.

The G500 is constructed in Graz Austria at the Steyr - Daimler - Puch factory, now commonly referred to as Magna -Steyr. Production at Magna-Steyr, is much like a Mercedes-Benz would have been produced in the 1960's.

The G500 is produced entirely by hand, and largely, in place.

This is not a mass-produced vehicle born of robots. The Geländewagen are produced in the exact same fashion as when Mercedes-Benz quality was at its zenith. There is a very distinct difference when one sits in a hand built vehicle.

Remember that solid "thunk" noise that you heard when you slammed the door on an old Mercedes-Benz? This is the last "new" Mercedes-Benz that you will ever have the experience of hearing that rewarding sound from.

Build quality on this vehicle is AMAZING. This is a real SUV built by intelligent, well compensated individuals who were concerned about the quality of their product, and it's readily apparent when you operate this vehicle. The factory produces approximately 8 new vehicles per day in Graz Austria, which is also incidentally the home of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

MB has confirmed that it will continue to produce the W463 for several more years to come. MB has continually produced the Gwagen in its current form since 1989, and has been in production since 1979.

This Mercedes Benz G500 is in my opinion in overall excellent condition. I have found zero evidence of any rust or prior paintwork.I have infact compared it to a few 2010 G550 models with miles in the 40's at the nearby auction, and this truck is in better cosmetic condition.

I have taken nearly 170 photographs for your review. I have archived all of them in a .zip format. Please follow the link below to download the photo archive.

This vehicle was owned by a NON-SMOKER. All contact surfaces are clean. The interior is in excellent condition and appears to defy time.

MB leather interior is still in very nice condition. Driver's seat doesn't seem to show any wear at all. Looks like a 30k mile car would.

The leather interior is still soft and pliable.

Front and rear seats are heated.

This vehicle is equipped with Integrated Restraint System. Driver and front passenger are each provided with a front air bag, door-mounted side-impact air bag, knee bolster, and seat-belt Emergency Tensioning Retractor (ETR) with belt-force limiter.

The vehicle is also equipped with the BabySmart system. It automatically deactivates the front passenger's front air bag when a BabySmart-compatible child seat is properly installed

I have been around this star for my entire life. I grew up with both of my parents driving Mercedes-Benz automobiles. I was driven to school in one. At age 3, I even had the privilege of driving my parents 220S through the kitchen of our home. I feel quite comfortable with these cars, and you will too!

For those of you that are not familiar with the star, this represents MB's pursuit of excellence on Air, Land and Sea.

Original spare tire, jack , MB tool kit are all present.

Six disc CD changer plays my CDR's just fine.

All of the original books and records, leather pouch, data card, and two infared security keys will accompany the vehicle to its new owner. I have some additional receipts that are not depicted. I also have all the command navigation discs that came with the truck.

M113 E50 V8 engine purrs. Makes excellent power on the expressway when you need it. Very spirited acceleration despite the weight. I'm partial to this engine , as I have the supercharged version in my E55 daily driver. Bolts still appear nice, ZERO rust issues..

Just like the label says...California and Canadian emissions legal!

New Yokohama Geolander tires installed at Mercedes Benz of Memphis approximately 1,000 miles ago.

Here is the vin# for anyone who should need it.

Pricing

Based upon sources such as Hemming's Motors News , and other publications such as The Star, I believe the value of this vehicle to be approximately $37,500 when the low mileage is taken into account. I did a search through the MB web site and found several MB dealers asking $37-45k for low mileage 2002 and 2003 examples with miles between 42 and 65k.

Why all of this year's F1 noses are so ugly [w/video]

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

If you're a serious fan of Formula One, you already know all about The Great Nosecone Conundrum of 2014. Those given to parsing each year's F1 regulations predicted the strong possibility of the so-called "anteater" noses as far back as early December 2013. Highly suggestive visual evidence first came after Caterham's crash test in early January, with further proof coming as soon as Williams showed a rendering of the FW36 challenger for this year's championship. That car earned a name that wasn't nearly so kind as "anteater."
Casual followers of the sport - or anyone who gets the feed from this site - probably don't know what's happening, except to wonder why the current year's F1 cars are led by appendages that would make Cyrano de Bergerac feel a whole lot better about himself.
The short answer to the question of ugsome F1 noses is "FIA regulations and safety." The reason there are various kinds of ugsome noses is simpler: engineers. The same boffins who have given us advances including carbon fiber monocoques, six-wheeled cars, double diffusers and Drag Reduction Systems are bred to do everything in their power to exploit every possible freedom in the regulations to make the cars they're building go faster - the caveat being that those advances have to work within the overall philosophy of the whole car.
