2005 - Mercedes-benz G-class on 2040-cars
Green Mountain, North Carolina, United States
Mercedes Benz G55 AMG 2005 … Grand Edition The iconic G55 is a rugged military design, transformed into a luxury vehicle in a way only Mercedes Benz can do. To take it to an even higher level the hand-built AMG engine is Supercharged to the tune of 469 horsepower with an even more amazing 516 lbs-ft of stump pulling torque. These are supercar numbers in a four wheel drive SUV! It gets even better. This is number 248 of 500 specially built Grand Edition models with unique side badging and production plaque. Outstanding quality in a luxurious SUV, with supercar performance and one of only 500 specially built. This vehicle is truly hand-built by some of the most senior assembly line workers MB has trained according to The Star magazine. They went on to say this G55 AMG “is the quickest, fastest, loudest, most in-your-face and fun to drive SUV we have ever encountered”. (The Star Sept/October 2004). The original owner purchased this limited edition G55 in Beverly Hills, CA and never drove it more than about fifty miles from home. It was always garaged and has never seen snow. The second owner had it shipped to North Carolina and garaged it at all times but has never driven it in snow. There have been a couple of times when it was caught in rain but no snow or crud. The exterior condition is immaculate. The Alabaster White paint was rare for this year. The leather and wood trim in the interior is immaculate as well. The low miles and excellent care make this a wonderful opportunity for the right buyer. Issues? …… Not much really. The right rear window actuator is not working and there are two hair-like scratches on the right rear panel. The oil has been recently changed (Mobil 1 0w 40) and the Pirelli tires are great. A clean Carfax is available upon request. A very special SUV. Quality never goes out of style. Features Include: 5.4 Liter Supercharged V8 469 hp 516 lbs-ft Tourque 5 Speed Shiftable Automatic 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds Four Wheel Drive Brush Guards and cages AMG Quad Exhaust, two each side 2 Silver Grand Edition Medallions 4 Stainless steel panels with illuminated AMG insignia Console plaque showing 248 of 500 built Optional oil dip stick Leather and wood, dash and console trim Designo leather seating 10 way front seating with multiple heating levels Memory seats with lumbar support Dual zone climate control Stability and traction control Cruise control Rear ventilation ducts Harmon/kardon premium stereo Tilt and telescoping steering wheel

2016 German Grand Prix race recap: so-so racing, great questions
Mon, Aug 1 2016We can summarize the 2016 German Grand Prix in one sentence: Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver Lewis Hamilton started second on the grid, passed pole-sitter and teammate Nico Rosberg before the first corner, and dominate to the finish. In fact, Hamilton turned his engine power output down on Lap 3 and still took the checkered flag seven seconds ahead of Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo. Ricciardo's teammate Max Verstappen crossed the line another six seconds back. Rosberg fell to fourth at the first corner and couldn't find the pace to reel in the Red Bulls. His questionable pass on Verstappen didn't help when the stewards penalized Rosberg five seconds; the overtake reminded us of Rosberg's move on teammate Hamilton in Austria. That penalty turned into eight seconds when the Mercedes-AMG Petronas stopwatch didn't work in the pits. Ferrari pilots Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen finished fifth and sixth. Those six drivers all started in the top six, too. Behind them, on Lap 28 of the 67-lap race the next four drivers were Valtteri Bottas in the Williams, Nico Hulkenberg in the Force India, and Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso in McLarens. Low fuel and old tires put the kibosh on Alonso's pace just four laps from the finish, allowing Force India's Sergio Perez to pass, rounding out the top ten. The issues up for debate during the four-week break are far more interesting than the weekend's race. As bad as Ferrari's day might have been and we'll get to that Rosberg probably took the biggest hit, losing the race before the first corner for the second weekend in a row and falling 19 points behind Hamilton. Rosberg won the first four races of the season, then the teammates tripped over one another in Spain. Hamilton's won six of the seven races since Spain, Rosberg's best result in that time is a second-place in Hungary. Hamilton turned his engine down on Lap 3 (!) because he's used his entire season's allotment of five turbochargers and five MGU-Ks. Those early-season gremlins now have him on edge of grid penalties. Unless Hamilton's momentum cools off in August, however, that reliability danger might be the only dent in his armor. Rosberg, who once led the Championship by 43 points, will surely drown in his thoughts and maybe schnapps over the summer break. Whatever the Italian word for "meditation" is, there'll be a lot of it at Ferrari during the F1 summer break.
Maybach lost upwards of $500k on each vehicle sold
Wed, 08 Feb 2012Daimler is shuttering Maybach in 2013 after seven years of production. In that time, the company's ultra-ultra-luxury arm managed to sell just 3,000 units, and CAR reports Daimler lost somewhere around $500,000 on each and every one of them.
Even with a ludicrous price tag of over $370,000 for an "entry" Maybach 57, the brand couldn't quite recoup the dizzying $1.33 billion Daimler poured into it since its (re)inception. Rumors ignited over a possible tie up with Aston Martin that would have resulted in a range of new and attractive models, but Daimler has instead decided to snuff out Maybach altogether.
We can hardly blame them.
Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet fetches record $1.4 million at auction
Mon, Oct 9 2017Alas, G-Wagen fans: The last available 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet has sold to a private Belgian buyer, with all proceeds to benefit the children's sports charity the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The price tag at the Zoute Sale at Bonhams was a record 1.2 million, or about $1.4 million. We previously dubbed the luxury off-roader " the ultimate safari machine" for its super-extravagant features. Its soft top can be raised or lowered electronically, as can a glass partition to the driver's compartment (wouldn't be a Landaulet without that, now would it, Jeeves?). What's more, the two rear seats can be fully reclined, with leg rests extending from below, and with access to folding tables, 10-inch LCD screen and heated, cooled and illuminated (!) cup holders. As it has the number 650 in its name, however, the Landaulet also features a twin-turbocharged V12 that generates 630 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. Bringing up the G-Wagen part of the bargain is a four-wheel-drive system with front, center, and rear differential locks, that sends power to solid portal axles front and rear, which move the differential and drive axles above the wheel centers for additional ground clearance. The grandest G sold Friday in Brussels was reportedly straight from the factory and one of only 99 to be built. No G650 Landaulets were sold in the United States. The Bonhams Motoring Department's fifth annual Zoute Sale also saw the purchase of a 1968 Ferrari 365 GTC Coupe for 805,000 euros ($945,000), the second most-valuable lot of the sale. Related Video:
