1986 Mercedes Benz 300gd G Wagon on 2040-cars
Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States
1986 production Mercedes 300GD Gelandewagen. This Mercedes was just delivered stateside by our supplier in Europe. We have imported many of these and this is easily the best driver. Most of the wagons from this era being advertised both here and abroad have been neglected for many years and/or suffer from serious rust issues. This unit is very nice and has very low mileage. It was cosmetically freshened several years ago and shows very well. The paint is what I would describe as very good, driver quality. The car has been driven and enjoyed so you should expect some typical minor faults. There are a few very small bubbles in several spots but are nothing that need any attention. The interior was updated with a very nice leather and suede seat combo, most of the interior panels and headliner were also done in suede. A carpet kit was fitted at the same time. Later Mercedes alloy wheels along with nearly new Michelin tires keep everything firmly planted on the ground. Mechanically, this Mercedes is exceptional. The 300 series MB diesel engine is one of the most reliable motors ever built with enthusiasts ranging from the ecologically minded bio diesel crowd to hard core off-roaders. Obviously, you aren't going to win any formula one races, but the huge amount of torque generated buy the diesel motor and gearing in the 5 speed box make for a very nice driver. Driving at freeway speeds is not a problem and drama free. Customs has become very strict with grey market imports over the last several years. There are numerous horror stories about cars being seized and destroyed. Lots of sellers will offer vehicles for sale that are still in Europe and leave you holding the bag if there are problems at the port. This Mercedes is already here in NC and has been imported in complete compliance with EPA and DOT regulations, all the import documents and certifications will be provided to the buyer at the time of purchase along with the European title and paperwork. We can assist with having a title issued here in North Carolina or in the state that the vehicle will ultimately reside. A local viewing and inspection is both welcome and encouraged with appointment. We are happy to help with shipping and freight logistics.
***Ebay does not recognize European VIN numbers. The Mercedes is a 1986 production model, not a 1980. |

EVO "2012 Car of the Year: The Track Battles" is a sports car salmagundi
Sun, 25 Nov 2012EVO has come out with another gotta-watch-it video, throwing its 2012 Car of the Year contestants around the UK's 1.5-mile Blyton Park track. It's actually a 15-minute teaser for the full-length DVD detailing the magazine's Car of the Year selection, but the tease is worth every penny free second.
Tiff Needell and sports car racer Richard Meaden handle the wheel duties, the two driving five pairs of sports cars: Lotus Exige S vs. Porsche Boxster S, Morgan Three-Wheeler vs. Toyota GT86, BMW M135i vs. Porsche 911, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series vs. Alpina B3 GT3, the marquee event pits the McLaren MP4-12C vs. the Pagani Huayra. After a head-to-head lap with commentary during drifts, Meaden takes each car out to set a representative lap time.
You'll find the verdicts, lots of tire smoke, and lines like "Anything you can do sideways I can do sideways" in the video below.
2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV tops $180,000
Tue, Oct 24 2023The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is staking claim to the "next era of driving pleasure," but that pleasure will come at a steep price. The company officially announced Wednesday that the super-lux, battery-electric SUV starts at $181,050 (assuming the $1,150 destination fee doesn't increase for 2024) — $50,000 more than the standard Mercedes-Benz EQS 580. And you can order one starting today. While U.S. figures are still partially up in the air, we do have some preliminary specs. To go with its 649-horsepower output, the EQS 680 SUV was rated at 600 km of total range on the WLTP cycle, which works out to about 373 miles. While Mercedes-Benz doesn't have EPA figures to offer, the EQS 580 is rated at approximately 340 miles with the same pack and a very similar (613 km) WLTP-certified range. 0-60 comes in just 4.1 seconds on the way to a top speed of 130 MPH. Charging the EQS 680 SUV back up from 0% will take a bit longer — nearly 13 hours on a Level II AC charger — but DC fast charging (10-80%) takes just 31 minutes at its max throughput rate of 200 kW. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is available with five different two-tone color combinations. All of the two-tone options will feature the lighter color on the bottom half of the SUV, since the darker tone up top better accentuates the vehicleÂ’s aerodynamics. Maybach-specific design details include vertical metal-look lines in the EQSÂ’ faux grille and a Mercedes-Benz star ornament on the hood. ThereÂ’s a Maybach logo on the D-pillar and the taillights have a unique running light pattern. Mercedes-Benz says 21-inch wheels are standard for now; larger 22-inch wheels, as well as a sixth two-tone paint option, will come later. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. 2015 Mercedes C-Class owners reporting bleeding seats [UPDATE]
Wed, Jan 7 2015UPDATE: Daimler AG became aware that, in a small number of individual cases, it is possible for temporary spots and/or shiny patches to form on the man-made leather surfaces of the 2015 C-Class in sub-freezing temperatures. No accidents or injuries have been reported, and we have no reason to believe that there are any hazards to customers. Replacement parts are expected to start shipping to dealers by next week. Owners of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class are learning the hard way that you don't necessarily want to buy a new vehicle in its first model year. Besides reports of poorly fitting taillights and faulty infotainment touchpads, a number of reports are popping up on the forums of MBWorld.org claiming that the compact luxury sedan's seats are, for lack of a better term, bleeding. Owners of US-built, 2015 C-Classes fitted with MB Tex vinyl interiors are reporting a white, oily, shiny residue discoloring their seats that shows up, often after cold cars are quickly heated. It's important to note that this residue is not necessarily staining the seats permanently – warm, soapy water is often all that's needed to restore the original finish. In other cases, the residue disappears of its own accord, only to reappear in an entirely different pattern. That doesn't make things any more acceptable to owners, many of whom have reached out to Mercedes with complaints. It's not clear how many vehicles are affected, but there are a sizable number of forum threads on the issue on MBWorld alone, and the problem is prevalent enough that Mercedes has issued a technical service bulletin to its dealers. According to the forum postings, the TSB instructs service technicians to replace the headrest and seat cover (except for the front, passenger-side seat bottom because of "factory calibration issues") in affected customer vehicles. New C-Class models in dealer inventories, meanwhile, are to get the soapy water treatment if they're showing signs of the residue. Neither one of those moves seems to represent a long-term fix, though. Black MB Tex seats – both the standard and sport variety – seem to be particularly susceptible to the residue, although we stumbled across at least one image of what looks like Silk Beige MB Tex with speckles of residue.
