This handsome 1999 Mercedes CLK320 Cabriolet was just traded in for a new one by the original owner. Yes, it does have a lot of miles, but, it has always been serviced by Mercedes Benz. Its last service was at 173K. Done in Silver with Gray interior and Azure Blue Top, this Cabriolet has Xenon headlights; dual power heated seats; power windows, locks, mirrors, and soft top; Climate Control; plus many other great Mercedes features. The engine, transmission and driveability are excellent. What a great car to drive! The interior is very clean, with little or no wear showing. Everything works properly. The body is very good looking. It has a few rusty spots: just below the grille, left rear 1/4 panel, right door bottom corner, and right rear 1/4 panel way down low (see pics). Nothing major, just cosmetic blemishes. It has a perfect blue top that works like a charm. Conti tires are great. 3 wheels are oxidized, one is still perfect. As you can see, I am being extremely fussy with this description, but, the truth is, for a 14 year old car, it is great. Looking for a fun convertible for the summer, but don't want to break the bank? This is it. DISCLAIMER: As with anything pre-owned, there may be imperfections commensurate with the age and mileage. Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]
Sat, 19 Jan 2013How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.

Race Recap: 2013 Japanese Grand Prix flips several scripts [spoilers]
Mon, 14 Oct 2013Japan's Suzuka circuit is a great track that all the drivers love, but it doesn't usually provide the most thrilling, head-to-head racing. Where it does excel, however, is with surprises and "What just happened there?!" moments, and this year it was no different.
It started with Mark Webber in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing out-qualifying his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this year. They were followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the still-solid Romain Grosjean again outdoing teammate Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa racing for another seat in Formula One and putting his Ferrari in fifth, then Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Nico Hülkenberg in the first Sauber, Fernando Alonso in the second Ferrari, and Räikkönen continuing to do himself no favors by qualifying tenth.
For the second year in a row, the lights going out was the cue to start the first corner action...
