It is hard to imagine more car for the money.  These C55s are wonderful cars to drive.  A real autobahn burner, yet just as perfect for around town and picking up the groceries.  This is a beautiful, clean and NON-SMOKER 2005 Mercedes C55 AMG that has been well maintained by a car enthusiast.  It has CLEAN CARFAX (I will provide a copy on request).  Everything works as it should.  I have owned the car since 2007 (and 18K miles). This car has been serviced per the factory required schedule since new and all service is up to date.  It just had a B service (8/1/13) including new cabin filters.  It has a full service history (I have a binder full of receipts for all work done).  I also keep a gas an maintenance log that lists the date and mileage of every tank of gas, service and repair since I bought the car in 2007.  The car comes with all original books and owner's manual plus two keys.  This is a fully optioned car with HID xenon headlights, NAV, CD changer, heater power front seats, power rear shade, and rear headrest release (MSRP when new was ~$60K).  I had the windows tinted and added OEM black AMG floor mats when I bought the car and have recently had the wheels refinished in smoke gray with a machined lip (lifetime warranty on wheel refinish).  I added an aftermarket (Belkin) bluetooth puck that adds wireless phone and music streaming.  The car also comes with a brand new set of german OEM front brake rotors.  I was told it needed them last time I had the brakes inspected (so I ordered some), but then I measured the rotors myself and they were still within spec.  I suspect they will need to be replaced at the next brake job.  The tires (Potenza S-04) were replaced at 65K miles and have plenty of tread left.  Clear title, in hand.

Disclosures & nit picks:
  • Passenger-side front air dam is cracked (see pic).  This is from it getting caught on a parking curb.  Can be fully repaired and painted for a few hundred $
  • Small scuff on driver's-side rear bumber (see pic, might be able to be buffed-out)
  • Some scratches on driver's window tint
  • Stone chips from normal use
Otherwise, this is an exceptionally clean car, that has been clay-bar'd and waxed regularly.  Interior is very clean with no abnormal wear, tears or rips of any kind.  Engine is clean and detailed.

Car is available for viewing locally (central Houston), please text or call me to make arrangements; Ben 713-504-7678 mobile.

Mercedes calls CLA 'best launch in 20 years' as it warns dealers of tight supplies

Fri, 13 Dec 2013

It's still in the early going, but it's looking more and more like the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA is a verifiable home run for the German brand. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the new small car isn't just widening the sales gap between Mercedes and BMW, it's attracting a new, younger breed of customers into the brand's showrooms. But that early success is straining supplies of the turbocharged four-door.
Dealers have been warned that the first half of 2014 will see limited supplies for CLA, with a letter to dealers indicating that "tight inventories and low days supply" will exist from February through June, despite the car's Kecskemét, Hungary plant running at full tilt.
"This is our best launch in 20 years," said Steve Cannon, the US boss for Mercedes. "The CLA has been a phenomenal success right out of the gate." The numbers certainly support that. We reported in early October that Mercedes moved 2,300 CLAs in its first week on sale, and now Bloomberg is saying CLA sales were almost singlehandedly responsible for Benz's November sales gains. Mercedes' annual sales are up 14 percent through the November, and it's enjoying a healthy 7,600-car lead over BMW.

Race recap: 2016 Monaco Grand Prix gets very wet, a little wild

Mon, May 30 2016

More than at any other race, the Monaco Grand Prix question is: which combination of demolition derby, Safety Cars, and bad pit strategy will decide the podium? Last year Lewis Hamilton's late, confounding pit stop cost him victory. The year before, Nico Rosberg's qualifying "mistake" put him on pole and Mercedes-AMG Petronas' pit strategy sealed his win – good for Nico, bad for Hamilton and the rest of the field. In 2013 Hamilton dropped from second to fourth when he lollygagged in the pits. In all three years, Rosberg won. The new X factor for 2016: a Red Bull resurgence that helped Daniel Ricciardo clinch his first career pole. Nevertheless, bad pit strategy had its say in the results. Ricciardo built up a 13-second lead by Lap 15 in spite of heavy rains that forced the Safety Car to lead the first eight laps of the race. Ricciardo stopped on Lap 23 to switch to intermediate tires for the drying track, ceding the lead to Hamilton. Hamilton pitted from the lead on Lap 31 for softs, then Red Bull pulled Ricciardo in again on Lap 32 and made a snap decision to put him on ultra softs, but the tires weren't ready when Ricciardo reached his pit box. What should have been a three-second pit stop turned into a 13.6-second pit stop. Ricciardo left the pits as Hamilton came down the straight and the Aussie lost the lead into the first corner. Despite two attempts to pass later in the race, Hamilton finished first, the Aussie second. It's the second race in a row where pit strategy cost Ricciardo a near-certain win. Conversely, Force India nailed both tire strategy and pit timing with Sergio Perez. The Mexican started in eighth but got into third before half the race was done, passing four cars in the pits, and finished on the podium's final step. Otherwise the order barely changed from about half distance, with Ferrari driver Sebatian Vettel in fourth, followed by Fernando Alonso in the McLaren, Nico Hulkenberg in the second Force India, Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Carlos Sainz for Toro Rosso, Jenson Button in the second McLaren, and Felipe Massa taking the final point for tenth for Williams. Storms didn't only hover over the area, though – dark clouds hung around several teams and drivers. Mercedes' reliability is no longer so reliable. The Silver Arrows suffered engine issues on both cars in qualifying, and Hamilton's problem almost kept him from setting a time in Q3.

2015 Austrian F1 Grand Prix switches to alternating current

Mon, Jun 22 2015

It's called the Red Bull Ring, guests are welcomed by a statue of a leaping bull, and dominating its layout demands powerful cars that can run it hard. Perhaps all that aggression is what led both Mercedes-AMG Petronas cars to run off the track in the final qualifying session on their final hot laps, a little too aggressive on the charge. Lewis Hamilton was first into the gravel at Turn 1 when he lost his car under braking, but he was still fast enough to get pole ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg, who spun at Turn 8. Rosberg started second. Or perhaps it wasn't the red bull but the scarlet horse that caused The Silver Arrows to muck it up: Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel had Mercedes' attention all weekend, and he'd line up in third just 0.355 off Hamilton's time. Williams truly rediscovered its power, Felipe Massa going fourth fastest, teammate Valtteri Bottas in sixth. Between them was newly-minted Le Mans winner Nico Hulkenberg, yet again – can we say that enough? – pulling the still-not-updated Force India to fifth place on the grid. Max Verstappen led the Renault-powered top-ten duo in his Toro Rosso in seventh, Infiniti Red Bull Racing driver Daniil Kvyat behind him in eighth. Kvyat, however, would start down the order because of a ten-place grid penalty for needing a fifth Renault engine. After that it's back to Mercedes Ferrari power, Felipe Nasr in the Sauber in ninth, Romain Grosjean in with Mercedes power in the Lotus in tenth – but fellow Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado actually started in tenth because of Kvyat's demotion. Before we get to the race, can we take a moment to talk about the shenanigans and gaudy penalties? Kimi Raikkonen waved the Ferrari flag in Canada after a season that's been full of "We didn't get it right this time," and we thought he was back. But no. In Austria the refrain returned, the Finn kicked out of Q1 after another miscommunication with the team – he qualified 18th. If the scenario plays to form, we'll now wait for team boss Mauricio Arrivabene to issue a clarification that suggests Raikkonen missed a step. Daniel Ricciardo parachutes ten spots back for the same reason as his teammate Kvyat, needing a fifth Renault power unit, dropping him to 18th on the grid and forcing him into a five-second time penalty when he comes in to pit.
