1970 Mercedes Benz Grosser 600 SWB Limousine. There is not much to be said about the 600 that an interested buyer wouldn’t already know. The size and agility of this car is hard to fathom without driving into a deep turn on a windy road. The 6.3 V8 engine is a perfect match for thevehicle. It has more than enough raw power to glide this vehicle to 125 + mil spec hour. The suspension is so farbeyond its years, modern cars can’t catch up. You can float along as if on aloud or you can stiffen it up to race through traffic. Enough about the concept; here are details ofthis wonderful automobile. This car’s Vin number ends in 1564. That means that it was the 1564th Mercedes 600 in production. The word production may be a bad word for describing this automobile. Each car was specifically ordered by its owner, and custom built to exact specifications. From 1964 to 1981, only about 2500 were produced. This includes the very rare Pullman six-door and four-door stretch versions. 1564 was ordered by JC Crean and delivered in 1970. JC chose Paint code 181, a cream colored Lacquer paint, and a beautiful tanleather, type 248. The paint on this car can be described as mostly original and in excellent shape for its age. The leather on this car is meant to be wornin. It has the look and feel of fine saddle leather. There are two areas of wear on the interior: the driver’s seat and the rear base of the passengers side. I would recommend having these areas repaired. The rest of the leather is in fine condition with normal wear. Anyone who knows anything about 600’s knows that they need to be maintained to perform they way they were designed to perform. Over the past few years, I have worked on addressing these issues. First, I addressed the fuel Issues. I removed the gas tank and had it boiled and sealed to remove any foreign matter or rust. The tank was reinstalled, and a new fuel pump and new flexible fuel lines were installed. The suspension was the next thing to handle. I replaced the four air suspension bladders and tested the car. After inspecting all of the leveling valves, I replaced the worn ones with professionally rebuilt ones. The car now stands up perfectly for months at a time. I then worked on the hydraulic system. I replaced the front window switches because they leaked. The rear windows and the massive sunroof still work great. I had the brakes checked and had to replace a fewbrake lines and free up the right front caliper. The car now breaks smoothly. There is no pull in any direction when pressure is applied. The condition of the engine was a great surprise. After changing all of the fluids, I replaced the distributor caps and rotors along with all of the ignition wires. Future work that should be done. I would also address the exhaust system. It works fine, but looks ugly. The mufflers are definitely not stock. The interior wood looks great, but it is not perfect. It shows signs of age but is in good condition. The headliner and carpet look great. The radio is very interesting in this car. It is definitely not stock. In fact, it is not even close. I have owned numerous 600’s in my life. If you wanted a great sound system, you were mostly out of luck. Most retrofits were done very poorly, making unsightly cuts in doors or the back window shelf. The sound system retrofit in this car is ingenious. They installed all of the speakers in the floor and all of the amplifiers in the trunk. The only thing you see is the modified radio on the dash. It’s almost invisible. Presently the amplified system is not hooked up. I run the radio through the stock speakers. I have another SWB and am planning to install the exact same system in it. Truly ingenious. The exterior chrome is in overall great condition, and shows very little pitting for its age. The biggest problem has to be withthe back bumper bar. While it was in storage, the bar was constantly bent and never repaired. This bar will need to be replaced to match the quality of the rest of the car. The overall impression of the car is a solid rustfree example that needs minor leather repairs and a chrome back bar. By addressing the leather repairs, this car will be one of the greats -- a classic Mercedes 600. Please feel free to bid on this car if you are aserious buyer. If you have a 0 rating, contact me before you bid. There is, of course, no warranty on a 43-year-oldautomobile. I guess the only guarantee I can offer is that people will stare at you in this car. It is a time capsule of German engineering at its finest. Feel free to ask any questions you like. Contact me with any and all questions. I have many more pictures you can review. SWB Ordered by J. Race Recap: 2015 Hungarian Grand Prix is Magyar for 'What a race!'
Mon, Jul 27 2015Every driver on the Formula 1 grid dreams of taking home the silverware, but only one driver each year can do it. Barring disaster in 2015 it looks like it's going to be Lewis Hamilton. The Brit has been so dominating at the front of the grid on Saturday, we can't see how he'll miss out on winning the second annual FIA Pole Position Trophy. That's the accolade introduced last season in another manufactured attempt to give drivers something to work for on Saturday, since the FIA felt leading into the first corner didn't have the pull it used to. Hamilton took his ninth pole of the season in Hungary for Mercedes-AMG Petronas with a crushing lap that put him almost six tenths ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg in second. All Hamilton needs is one more spot at the top of the grid this season, and he's the Pole Position trophy winner. Thrilling stuff. Behind Rosberg the gaps stayed smaller, Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari a little more than a tenth behind Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing less than four one-hundredths behind Vettel. We feel almost as vexed watching Kimi Raikkonen as he feels driving – he's finally got a good Ferrari, now he can't get a good weekend. The front wing broke on his car in Free Practice 1, then a water leak in Free Practice 3 robbed him of setup time on the soft tire. He lines up in fifth about two tenths behind Ricciardo. The slow, tight Hungaroring didn't agree with the Williams chassis, Valtteri Bottas the first of the Grove team drivers in sixth, his teammate Felipe Massa two places back. Between them is Daniil Kvyat in the second Red Bull in seventh. Teenager Max Verstappen put in a good showing in the Toro Rosso to grab ninth, while Romain Grosjean in a wriggling, squishy, sliding Lotus classified his appearance in Q3 at all as "a miracle." As for the race that followed, we don't expect to see another like it for a long time – it was the real thrilling stuff, one shock after another. The drama began after the first parade lap, when Felipe Massa lined up out of position and the start was aborted. The drivers did another parade lap, then lined up with everyone in place. Mercedes got swamped as soon as the lights went out. Vettel ran around both of them and led the race into the first turn, Raikkonen had come from fifth to third by Turn 1, then got the inside line on Rosberg through Turn 2 to take second place.
Recharge Wrap-up: Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive is a rock star, FedEx tests electric trucks
Thu, Oct 2 2014The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive is in a new music video for I Lived by OneRepublic. The band's singer, Ryan Tedder, has also been brought on as a brand ambassador for the German automaker. OneRepublic will also be performing the song at the Mercedes-Benz Media Night on the eve of the Paris Motor Show. No word if Mercedes plans to offer hordes of screaming teenage fans as an option package with the B-Class Electric Drive. See the video (the car shows up around the four-minute mark) or read more in the press release below. FedEx is testing converted electric delivery trucks with diesel range extenders. Looking to shrink its carbon footprint, the company has converted a handful of trucks as part of a pilot program. In addition to battery packs, each truck is equipped with diesel turbine generators (supplied by Ian Wright's company, Wrightspeed) to provide electricity when the battery is depleted. Because the diesel motors aren't powering the vehicle directly, they can continuously run at their most efficient speed, making the trucks about twice as efficient as those powered by traditional means. Read more at Wired. Ford's new aluminum-bodied F-150 will be 5 to 20 percent more efficient, the company says. The fuel economy gains depend on the particular version of the truck, but the biggest improvement will likely come from the 3.5-liter V6 and the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6. Automotive News predicts the F-150 SFE to be rated at 21 mpg city/28 highway/23 combined, which are identical figures to the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. The result could be a noteworthy fuel economy battle between Ford and Ram trucks. Learn more at Automotive News. The US Department of Energy is providing $25 million in funding toward reducing the price of algal biofuels. The goal is to get the price of these renewable fuels below $5 per gasoline gallon equivalent (gge) by 2019, and less than $3 per gge by 2030. The money will fund projects to develop better algal cultures that produce biofuel and other useful bioproducts, and projects to boost biomass productivity. The DOE says it wants to help develop a "bioeconomy" that provides jobs, helps the environment and ensures energy security. Read more at Energy.gov. This content is hosted by a third party.
