Mercedes Benz 560SEC:

A meticulous paint restoration was done by Advantage Auto works, in North Richland Hills, TX at a cost of $8,500.  All molding taken off, clips replaced, windshields removed and reinstalled with new gaskets.  All moldings and cladding blacked out.  There are no dings or scratches.  The car was recently wet sanded to remove any shrinkage and orange peel.  AMG wheels installed along with Continental DWS tires.  Driver's side bolster and center armrest were re-skinned.  Installed new fog lights and used European headlamps.  Replaced ignition wires, freeze plug on right side of engine and replaced engine mounts and shock.  Replaced front grill.  Replaced ignition cylinder and key.  Replaced front brakes and calipers.  Reverse flush engine and install cooler thermostat.  Replaced O2 sensor, gaskets on the intake manifolds, replaced air cleaner, replaced the fuel injectors, replaced flange, air filter, guide and fuel intake hose.  Replaced incorrect fuel pump relay and ECU. Replaced fuel accumulator and temperature sensor.  Replaced valve stem seals.  Replaced front control arms and 2 front tires in January 2013, as the tires were cupped do to the worn suspension parts.  The suspension has been lowered with H&R springs and new Bilstein struts.  The front end was entirely re-bushed and the left front tie rod end was replaced along with the lower control arms.  The transmission was rebuilt within the last 3 months.

While the car shows very well, there is a small blister on the right rear quarter panel, just above the wheel well.  The recommended fix is to cut out the metal 2” around the blister and weld in new metal.  I will have the repair done if the buyer meets the Buy-it Now price.

$25,000 invested after the car was purchased.  This 2 owner, low mileage, meticulous restoration is a rare example of an extraordinary vehicle.  The car was hand built and was Mercedes flag ship in 1991.  It sold new for $84,000.  This was the last year of production of the 560SEC and benefited from upgrades based on production and warrantee experience.

For someone who knows these cars, values the workmanship and what has been done, this is a great value.  Zims Autotecnik in Bedford, TX and Park Place Mercedes in Grapevine, TX performed the mechanical work done in Texas.   I have all receipts for work that I had performed and I can send a spreadsheet of the expenses I have incurred since I have owned the car.

While I have confidence in the car and the work performed, I urge an independent inspection be done on the car, which is a prudent practice prior to purchasing any vehicle.

I have taken much satisfaction in bringing the car back to its original glory and driving has it been a pleasure.  I have moved on to other projects and can only park 4 cars under cover.  Having more than 4 classic cars would stress my wife in the extreme.  My wife is a keeper, so the car is being placed on eBay.

The photos accurately reveal the character, fit and finish of this outstanding automobile.

Dealers mobilize to protect their margins from automaker subscription services

Fri, Aug 24 2018

Six individual auto brands — Lincoln, Cadillac, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Volvo — have established or are trialing a vehicle subscription service in the U.S. Three third-party companies — Flexdrive, Clutch and Carma — run brand-agnostic subscription services. And three automakers — Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and General Motors — have also launched short-term rental services. Dealers, afraid of how these trends might affect their margins, are building political and lawmaking campaigns to protect their revenue streams. So far, three states are investigating automaker subscriptions, and Indiana has banned any such service until next year. It's certain that those three states are the first fronts in a long political and legal battle. Powerful dealer franchise laws mandate the existence of dealers and restrict how automakers are allowed to interact with customers to sell a vehicle. On top of that, Bob Reisner, CEO of Nassau Business Funding & Services, said, "Dealers and their associations are among the strongest political operators in many states. They as a group are difficult for state politicians to vote against." In California earlier this year, the state Assembly debated a bill with wide-ranging provisions to protect against what the California New Car Dealers Association called "inappropriate treatment of dealers by manufacturers." One of those provisions stipulated that subscription services need to go through dealers, but that item got stripped out when dealers and manufacturers agreed to discuss the matter further. In Indiana, Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a moratorium on all subscription programs by dealers or manufacturers until May 1, 2019, to give legislators more time to investigate. Dealers in New Jersey have taken their campaign to the state capitol, asking that the cars in subscription programs get a different classification for registration purposes. Automakers run the current subscription services and own the vehicles. Sign-ups and financial transactions happen online or through apps, leaving dealers to do little more than act as fulfillment centers to various degrees, with little legal recourse as to compensation amounts when they're called on to deliver or service a car. That's a bad base to build on for business owners who've sunk millions of dollars into their operations.

Mercedes-Benz cut fleetwide emissions by 4.3 percent last year

Fri, Apr 11 2014

Mercedes-Benz says it reduced its fleetwide vehicle emissions by 4.3 percent last year. Of course, the German automaker has another 29 percent to go to meet the European Commission's 2020 mandate. But who's counting? Mercedes' luxury and sports car bent has made it a relative laggard when it comes to increasing fleetwide fuel-efficiency, but the company did reduce emissions from 140 grams of CO2 per kilometer to 134 last year. The company's fleetwide fuel efficiency (calculated using the lenient European standard) was 5.4 liters per 100 kilometers, which equals about 44 miles per gallon and represents a 25-percent jump since 2007. Benz has come a long way from its gas-swilling V8 tanks of the 1970s. In fact, the company said its top performer, in the fuel-efficiency sense, was the diesel-powered B180 CDI BlueEfficiency Edition, which consumes 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers. That equals about 62 mpg (again, on the lenient scale). The company got some additional good press by revealing that Winfried Kretschmann, Minister-President of the German State of Baden-Wurttemberg, drives a Mercedes-Benz S300 BlueTEC Hybrid. Not exactly a Nissan Leaf, mind you, but it's a start, as is the company's efforts to bring its fleetwide emissions ever closer to the 95g CO2/km level that the EC is mandating by 2020. Take a look at Mercedes-Benz's press release below. Minister-President of the German State of Baden-Wurttemberg, Winfried Kretschmann (left), with Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber (right) and a Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID Fleet fuel consumption for Mercedes-Benz Cars falls to 134 g CO2/km: Top efficiency figures in all vehicle classes Stuttgart, Apr 08, 2014 Benefit for the environment and customers: In almost all vehicle classes, Mercedes-Benz offers the most efficient vehicle in the competitive lineup. Moreover, in 2013 the company was able to reduce the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions[1] of the Mercedes-Benz Cars EU new vehicle fleet by a further six grams, to 134 g CO2/km. This means that in 2013, the average fleet consumption was 5.4 litres/100 km – a reduction by 24.7 percent since 2007. At present the company offers more than 50 models emitting less than 120 g CO2/km and 71 models emitting less than 130 g CO2/km. Customers can find vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz model range that consume considerably less fuel than competing models. "With our model initiative we want to be the leading premium manufacturer by 2020 again, says Prof.

Mercedes dealers authorized to spend $2,500 on perks for S-Class customers

Mon, 02 Dec 2013

If you drop $100,000 on a luxury sedan, it seems only reasonable to receive some preferential treatment at the dealership you purchased from. After all, that price isn't just for the car - you're paying for the brand and all the cachet that entails. For Mercedes-Benz, those benefits have apparently been lacking relative to the German brand's luxury competitors.
That's set to change, though, as Automotive News reports that the German brand is placing a much greater emphasis on keeping its customers happy and loyal with its MB Select program. Starting with the new S-Class and spreading to the CLA-Class (and eventually beyond), dealers are being given money - up to $2,500 in the case of the flagship sedan - just to improve the customer experience.
We agree, improving the "customer experience" is quite a vague term, so it's nice that Mercedes USA's CEO, Steve Cannon, offered up some examples to AN at the LA Auto Show. For example, a customer couldn't fit his sunglasses into the overhead compartment. "So we bought him a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses that fit because of their shape," Cannon said.
