LOW MILEAGE, ONE OWNER 1993 Mercedes Benz 500sl roadster convertible with removeable hard top.
I bought this one owner Mercedes at the Ocoee Forida Auto Auction in early February 2003. A Florida Mercedes dealer, from Sarasota, was selling the car for the original lady owner. She had the exact same car in New Jersey and this car was kept ,in the garage, at her Florida home, near Sarasota. The lady was lucky enough to be able to spend half the year in New Jersey and half in Florida, with a red Mercedes 500sl at each home. How sporty is that??????
The afternoon I bought this car, I drove the car home to Charleston, SC. I did see 135mph on the speedometer while flying thru Georgia on I-95. WWhat was I thinking? I was having a serious driving experience, most guys dream of !
What a sensational automobile to drive!
I bought this Mercedes on my SC dealer's license and I have the original one owner Florida title to convey to the next owner.
The next week I had a severe stroke on February 9, 2003. I have not driven since that day, hence the few miles added since the purchase in Ocoee!
Within a few days of my stroke, on Feb 9,2003,the Mercedes was driven inside my warehouse, stored there and started regularly and driven periodically, on sunny days, to keep everything mechanical functioning properly.
A few months ago, George and Pete, drove this 500sl out of the arehouse, at my towing company, to take photos for this ebay listing Sadly,I am not able to drive and enjoy this fabulous Mercedes and need to sell it to help pay medical bills not covered by insurance.
While taking photos, removing the hard top and attempting to raise the convertible top, the top locking hydraulic cylinders, inside the windshield frame, started leaking fluid.
I had the car transported, on one of my rollbacks, to Star Motor Service (843 571-1628 Axel Reinhardt, (owner). Star Motors is the best independent Mercedes repair facility in Charleston, SC.
Axel replaced all the convertible top hydraulic cylinders in the windshield frame and the cylinders at the rear of the convertible top mechanism and repaired a problem with one of the electrical connections on the top mechanism. The car was serviced and checked from bumper to bumper to be certain everything was OK from being stored, for so many years, inside my warehouse.
In the process of raising and lowering the convertible top, the driver side rear convertible top vinyl quarter window split slightly, probably due to being in the down position for 10+ years. Some clear plastic tape was put over the split. (see posted photo).
That split vinyl window is the only flaw on this totally original 20 year old Mercedes 500sl that has spent half its life stored inside my dry warehouse in Charleston, SC.
I am posting a few photos, but I have many more. If you are serious about buying this fabulous automobile, call me and give me your email address and I will emaill you all the photos of the car inside & out, the engine, inside the trunk and all angles of the car's exterior, interior and under side, taken while on the lift. The photos you see posted on this listing and those I email you, were taken today, Friday, February 15, 2013.
The first posted photo was taken in my driveway, at my home, Feb 6, 2003 (10+ years ago), 3 days days before my stroke.
High bidder must send a $500 deposit with paypal, within 24 hours of end of listing. Mercedes C-Class Coupe due to go on sale next December
Sat, Dec 6 2014While we expect to see the coming Mercedes C-Class convertible sometime next year, perhaps at the Paris Motor Show, Auto Motor und Sport reports that the C-Class Coupe will go on sale in December 2015 (probably in Europe first) - it's possible we'll see it debuted at the same time as the cabrio. The German magazine says the two-door will have sharper lines on a body that is four inches longer, almost two inches wider and a fraction of an inch lower than the sedan, dimensional aggrandizement that will be put to good effect on the AMG version coming in 2016. We'll have to wait for information on powertrains, which should hew to the sedan's lineup in addition to whatever else M-B might bring over here, topped off by the 503-horsepower, twin-turbo V8 in the AMG variant. Speaking of which, the 'last-generation' C63 AMG Coupe is still on sale until spring of next year, if you're a fan of the classics. Or you can wait on news of the C-Class four-door coupe, if niches inside of niches are what you're really after.
Mercedes-Benz engines with 48-volt systems coming in 2017
Tue, Jun 14 2016As part of a big green push announced yesterday, Mercedes-Benz is jumping into the world of 48-volt power. The company will launch a new family of efficient gasoline engines next year and will begin rolling out 48-volt systems with it, likely in its more expensive cars first. Mercedes will use the 48-volt systems to power mild-hybrid functions like energy recuperation (commonly called brake regeneration), engine stop-start, electric boost, and even moving a car from a stop on electric power alone. These features will be enabled through either an integrated starter-generator (Mercedes abbreviates it ISG) or a belt-driven generator (RSG). (RSG is from the German word for belt-driven generator, Riemenstartergeneratoren. That's your language lesson for the day.) Mercedes didn't offer many other details on the new family of engines. There are 48-volt systems already in production; Audi's three-compressor SQ7 engine uses an electric supercharger run by a 48-volt system, and there's a new SQ5 diesel on the horizon that will use a similar setup with the medium-voltage system. Electric superchargers require a lot of juice, which can be fed by either a supercapacitor or batteries in a 48-volt system. Why 48-volt Matters: Current hybrid and battery-electric vehicles make use of very high voltages in their batteries, motors, and the wiring that connects them, usually around 200 to 600 volts. The high voltage gives them enough power to move a big vehicle, but it also creates safety issues. The way to mitigate those safety issues is with added equipment, and that increases both cost and weight. You can see where this is going. By switching to a 48-volt system, the high-voltage issues go away and the electrical architecture benefits from four times the voltage of a normal vehicle system and uses the same current, providing four times the power. The electrical architecture will cost more than a 12-volt system but less than the complex and more dangerous systems in current electrified vehicles. The added cost makes sense now because automakers are running out of ways to wisely spend money for efficiency gains. Cars can retain a cheaper 12-volt battery for lower-power accessories and run the high-draw systems on the 48-volt circuit. The industry is moving toward 48-volt power, with the SAE working on a standard for the systems and Delphi claiming a 10-percent increase in fuel economy for cars that make the switch.
Mercedes-Benz GLK coupe to get 2016 intro
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Radio chatter around the emerging small, premium crossover coupe genre has thus far been dominated by the Land Rover Evoque and the Mini Paceman. According to a report in Car, the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (shown above) has received its invitation to the party and will spend the next three years getting ready: it's said that two-door variant of the crisply-angled CUV is coming in 2016, along with a redesign befitting its sleeker intentions.
To be based on the MRA platform - the rear-drive version of the company's three new modular platforms, it will also support the coming 2013 S-Class and could eventually get an AMG version to help it compete with segment offerings like the forthcoming Porsche Macan. Not much else is known about it beyond its name: Car says it will be called the GLC, a friendly nomenclature we remember best as a Mazda hatchback (allegedly for "Good Little Car"). Internet oldtimers may remember the Mazda GLC as the predecessor to the 323 (which in turn came before today's Mazda3). Either way, the GLC is not to be confused with the larger upcoming BMW X6 rival based on the ML-Class (reportedly called GLS) which is also said to still be in the works, or the front-drive based GLA, a model also edging toward production.
