Beautiful Mercedes Benz 560sel on 2040-cars
Pacifica, California, United States
My wife and I just bought our first house, and we no longer have the garage space for it. (And this car deserves to be stored inside, as it always has been). If you aren't familiar with these cars, the 560 SEL is the long wheelbase version of the Mercedes W126 platform, and offers the biggest engine available at the time with the most interior space. This is the car that you would see in the movies driven by Arab Oil Sheiks and foreign diplomats, with the flags on the front bumper. (No, I don't have flags for it, but I've been tempted). The car is powered by a 5.0 Liter V8 with fuel injection, and it has abundant power to move very quickly, even for a heavy car. There is no comparison between this powertrain and the old Mercedes Benz diesels, which achieve 0-60 "Eventually." If you would like to do more research about the Mercedes W126 platform, check out the Wikipedia page for Mercedes W126. (eBay would not allow me to include the link). This car is in beautiful shape, and is one of the most desirable color combinations you can find. The exterior is "Black Pearl Metallic," which changes colors in the light from black, to dark grey, to deep brown. The interior is finished in a light brown "Palomino" leather. I purchased this from an older Japanese gentleman in San Francisco in 2012. He inherited the car from his father, who received it as a gift from a wealthy friend in Southern California. This car is absolutely beautiful inside and out, and I receive compliments on it frequently. I currently only drive the car occasionally on the weekends when the weather is nice, however I would have no hesitation to get in this car and drive it across the country, or use it as a daily commuter. I have lots of documentation for the car, including the original brochure from the dealership where it was ordered. I have the CarFax report from when I purchased the car in 2012. If you would like a newer report, feel free to run a VIN history report. This Mercedes has a number of unique features, many of which it pioneered when the car was released in 1987. Among them, are: -Power reclining rear seats -Automated Climate Control -Heated front and rear seats -Hill-hold, prevents the car from rolling back without needing to hold your foot on the brake. -Two different horn tones (City and Country) -Digital external temperature display Cosmetically, the car is in very good shape. The biggest blemish is that the chrome on the rear bumper is peeling. There are a few door nicks here and there, but they are minor. Mechanically, the only potential issue I'm aware of is that the steering wheel sometimes vibrates when on the freeway, which I believe means that it will probably need new tie rods at some point. I have had all maintenance performed by "Junipero Serra Auto" in Daly City, (A Mercedes Benz and Porsche specialty shop). The car is virtually stock, with the exception of lightly tinted windows, and an Alpine stereo with iPod connectivity. (Both were done by the previous owner). The only addition I made was to replace the stock floor mats with new plush mats, that are very high quality. The car still has the original California "Sunset" license plates, which you can no longer obtain. I am a car enthusiast, (Much to my wife's dismay), and I take pride in keeping my cars well maintained and looking beautiful. Please ask any questions, or come see the car in person if you are interested. The car is located in Pacifica, California. |

Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury fully revealed, tea set and all
Tue, Apr 24 2018Mercedes has officially unveiled its Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept following a leak of most of the details last week. As we learned last week, the unusual looking sedan-SUV crossbreed is fully electric with four motors producing a whopping 750 horsepower. Combined with an 80 kWh battery, Mercedes estimates it should have a range of over 200 miles on the European test cycle. It also can handle extremely fast charging from DC chargers outputting 350 kW. Mercedes claims this allows it to gain 60 miles of range in 5 minutes. But there are a number of interesting details that weren't leaked. Many of them have to do with the car's Chinese inspiration, which is perhaps not that surprising for a car that makes its debut in China. The body style is the first influence, which Mercedes says combines the sedan and SUV, the best-selling car classes in the country. On the inside, there are a pair of cues inspired by China. The first is the ebony wood trim that Mercedes calls "Magic Wood." The company says it's very similar to that used in Chinese furniture. In the back, between the two highly adjustable white leather seats with rose-gold stitching, is a complete tea set. And not only does it contain all the containers for tea, but it actually has a variety of teas on offer. They're there to be used in conjunction with the car's relaxation modes that combine lighting, music and scents to set the mood. It's hard to say whether this concept will spawn a production model, since the body style is unlike any currently offered by Mercedes-Benz. But with the crossover SUV market staying hot, and competitors such as Audi and BMW bringing out extra-large SUVs, we wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes eventually offers at least a Maybach-level version of its GLS-Class, if not its own model. Rain prolongs the Championship battle | 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix recap
Mon, Nov 14 2016Rain and an old-school circuit are the antidotes to Formula 1's constricting technical regulations and Tilke tracks. At Brazil's Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace – otherwise known as Interlagos – rain Saturday night and on race day washed away everyone's careful plans, except for those of the man at the front of the pack. Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes-AMG Petronas ahead of the field throughout the weekend. On Sunday, a storm-delayed start behind the Safety Car assured Hamilton of a clean path to the lead and a clear track. The Briton didn't waste it, pulling out a gap on teammate Nico Rosberg behind, and Rosberg appeared to have no interest in going hard after Hamilton. Safety Cars and red flags kept resetting the gap to zero, though. After the Mercedes-AMG GT S led the first seven laps, it emerged again on Lap 13 for another six laps when Marcus Ericsson crashed his Sauber. Seconds after racing resumed, Kimi Raikkonen aquaplaned his Ferrari into the wall on the front straight. That caused the first red flag, leading to another eight-lap Safety Car interval, then a second red flag stoppage due to conditions on Lap 28, then three more Safety Car laps, and then, finally, racing again. Hamilton never surrendered his lead. The Briton changed tires once during a stoppage, and drove fast enough to cover the full race distance despite the intermissions. Afterward, he said "it was a very easy race." Rosberg had it harder, defending against the preternatural Max Verstappen in third. Barring misfortune it's already clear the Red Bull pilot has at least one Driver's Championship in his career future. In Brazil the young Dutchman drove like he's worthy of the hardware right now. After Verstappen passed Rosberg for second on Lap 34, the Red Bull driver pitted for intermediate tires on Lap 44 – a huge gamble in the conditions – coming back out in fifth. That tire wager failed, giving Rosberg a safe position in second when Verstappen had to pit for extreme wets on Lap 54 of 71. The teenager re-emerged in 16th. Over the race's final 17 laps Verstappen passed 13 drivers at six different places on track. He ran it close-but-clean a couple of times, especially when getting around Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez, but he was simply untouchable. Not only did the Dutchman score an amazing third place, he put in what could be the drive of the season.
