Rare Mercedes 500E built in partnership with Porsche

Brief history and condition report- This is a one owner car and has been in GA since 1993. Well serviced by RBM of Atlanta. The car has NEVER been neglected and no maintenance has ever been ignored or delayed. At 83,571miles, the car is performing perfectly. Not even a fluid drip of any kind on the ground. Never damaged or smoked in. All factory original paint still covers the car. The interior is also original and in amazing condition with soft leather. Each and every creature comfort and power option operates correctly. All mechanical and electrical components are functioning properly. There are no service indicators illuminated and I am aware of no issues requiring repair. New Michelin Pilots were installed with under 5000 miles on them. I will provide more detailed information below. Most of us know the pedigree these rare Benz performance Sedans carry. Very low production numbers for the few years they were produced. With window sticker prices of $80,000 twenty years ago, these are in fact a rare breed.  Mercedes Benz in every way but unique in almost all respects. These cars were a joint venture between MB and Porsche. They were hand built at the Porsche factory and transported back and forth several times during assembly between the two plants in Germany. One look at the wide-body fenders front and rear is the most visible discerning characteristic of the 500E. The 5.0 liter V8 provided by it's 500SL brother is a hidden benefit that boasts 322 horse power and a 0 to 60 time of just over five seconds. These cars were hailed by all who tested them and received glowing reviews in every publication that had the privilege of examining and driving one. I will not bore you here with technical data or statistics. You can research for yourself on the internet if so inclined. In short, these are incredible automobiles even by today's standards. The body and paint are in impressive original condition considering its age. There are minor scratched and road rash expected. There are a few scratches and road rash as to be expected from a 21 year old vehicle. There are two door dings on the driver/rear fender (not worth mentioning) and one on the passenger front fender. There is sadly a small ding in the grill.

Please note: The European headlamps with wiper-delete panels ($3000+) were a very costly upgrade that was performed when the car was near new.

I welcome showing my Mercedes in person to anyone with genuine interest. I live very near the Atlanta Airport and would gladly pick you up. Each photo shows the Benz clearly and accurately from as many angles as I could think of. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the car for yourself as possible. I did not set a reserve price on my Benz. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase is sincere. I took every picture you're about to see in my driveway at home 3 days before this auction started. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my car and these pictures are true to her in-person appearance.

I have described my Benz honestly and to the best of my ability based on over 25 years of owning and driving classic cars. I have 100% faith in the drivability of my Mercedes and everything is in excellent working order per my written description provided above. I enjoy driving her without concern and would not hesitate taking a cross-country trip today but she is over 20 years old so routine service and repairs should be expected based on her age. If you are not comfortable with a sight-unseen purchase, please come see the car for yourself or have an independent inspection performed PRIOR to bidding, NOT after. I will not be responsible for the decisions of others.  PAYMENT TERMS

 A $1000.00 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction ending preferably through PayPal just so we are both protected. Wire transfers and verifiable cashier checks are also acceptable. I'm an easy going person so if you need to make special financial arrangements please contact me BEFORE you bid and I'll try to help. *The remaining balance in-full is due within 7 calendar days of auction end in the form of secure funds.* Some banks and credit unions do not finance vehicles of this vintage. Make sure if you are financing that your financial institution accepts the year and value of this vehicle before bidding and that my payment time-lines can be met. Please have your method of payment arranged prior to auction ending.

TRANSPORT - SHIPPING

I am happy to be an active and hands-on part of this entire process from start to finish but the buyer is ultimately responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle and any pre-purchase inspections need to be done BEFORE auction ending. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly assist in loading and be present for the transport condition form and other reasonable help. Locating a transporter is the buyers responsibility but I can make recommendations and share the relationships I've built. Vehicle transport has become very reasonable. I personally use a privately dispatched trucking company. They have handled my transport needs perfectly for the last several years with careful handling, excellent rates and fast service even all the way to the East Coast. I will provide contact info at your request. Dependable Auto Shippers (D.A.S.) is a transporter that eBay recommends and my experiences with them before I started using only private carriers were just fine. My location zip code is 30317. Coast-to-Coast transport is around $1200.00 and even less the closer you are to Atlanta. Shipping to Australia, Europe and other Countries has also become affordable and easy to arrange.

Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013

When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.

Child cobalt miners: Automakers pledge ethical minerals sourcing for EVs

BERLIN - Leading carmakers including Volkswagen and Toyota pledged on Wednesday to uphold ethical and socially responsible standards in their purchases of minerals for an expected boom in electric vehicle production. Demand for minerals such as cobalt, graphite and lithium is forecast to soar in the coming years as governments crack down on vehicle pollution and carmakers step up their investments in electric models. To cover its plans for more than 80 new models by 2025, Volkswagen alone is looking for partners in China, Europe and North America to provide battery cells and related technology worth more than 50 billion euros ($59 billion). Talks with major cobalt producers, including Glencore, at VW's Wolfsburg headquarters last week ended without a deal. More than half of the world's cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country racked by political instability and legal opacity, and where child labor is used in mines. On Wednesday, a group of 10 leading passenger-car and truck manufacturers announced an initiative to jointly identify and address ethical, environmental, human and labor rights issues in raw materials sourcing. The partnership dubbed "Drive Sustainability" consists of VW, Toyota Motor Europe, Ford, Daimler, BMW, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo Cars and truckmakers Scania and Volvo. The alliance "will assess the risks posed by the top raw materials (such as mica, cobalt, rubber and leather) in the automotive sector," said Stefan Crets of the CSR Europe business network. Mercedes has already booked 30k orders for new S-Class

When Toyota snags 30,000 Corolla orders over a three-month span, it's entirely possible we're in the midst of a global economic collapse and that the end is nigh. That's because the scale for Toyota is so very large. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, operates on a much smaller scale, particularly when we talk about its higher-end models, like the S-Class.
In 2012, Mercedes sold 65,000 of its flagship sedans in Germany and the EU. That's 178 units per day, for 365 days. Based on that, you can imagine the excitement at Stuttgart when it accepted 30,000 orders for the new S-Class in just three months. That's an average of 333 per day on a continent with a notoriously shaky economy. Now, admittedly, this enthusiasm could wane as the refitted S-Class becomes more common and Mercedes achieves market saturation in Europe's many chauffeur and livery services, but Mercedes isn't choosing to look at it that way.
"The new S-Class has already jumped back into the lead in terms of new vehicle registrations in Germany and its neighboring European countries," Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kaellenius, said in a statement last week.
