1991 Mercedes 500sl Roadster Red Convertible on 2040-cars
Atlanta, Georgia, United States
I'm selling my sweet
little 1991 red 500SL, I hate to move it on to its next home but I need to get
my son a (more) practical car. I've owned the car a
for three years and have loved every minute of it. It starts up and drives great
on highway or surface streets and has great pick up and lots of power.
Extremely low miles (118k) for a 20 year old car. The body is the R129
style. Car has four new Falken tires and the car drives straight and smooth. All
five rims (including spare) are Mercedes factory and in good shape. The drivers seat had a tear/separation in the leather but overall, the interior is in pretty good shape. The dash has no cracks or
imperfections. I have the red hard top and it's in perfect shape, but
honestly I've never put it on. This car was built as a convertible and
looks and drives best with the roof down! The car has not been restored
and all equipment is original. I've kept my reserve low and would consider this as a project car due to the following list of imperfections: The hydraulics for the
automatic roof don't work. I'm not sure if it's one or all of the
hydraulic pumps, but to raise and lower the soft roof (which is in perfect
shape) you need to use the Mercedes spacer tool (provided). The passenger seat and
seat belt are stuck in the locked position. I don't know how to fix
this. The drivers side seat works and folds forward perfectly giving access to the back storage and the seat belt works perfectly. There is some clear coat bubbling on the hood. I was told that this is a common problem with this vintage year and red color of the car. I don't think the car needs a repaint. I've takes a couple of close up pics of the hood, it's hard to see from pictures, but it's not too bad and only on the hood. The
plastic trim bumper on the front of the car has been cracked hitting curbs and
such. It looks fine but has some visible
cracks in the plastic. Drivers side door key
won't lock from the outside. To lock the car, you have to do it from the
passengers side. Power antennae won't
raise or lower. The radio / cassette (original) turns on but says “stand by”
but no radio stations come in. The
antennae is stuck in the down position. AC doesn't blow cold (heat works perfectly) Lately, after starting and running for a while, the accelerator hesitates before moving. This seems to happen after the engine has warmed up and it's sporadic. Not sure what it is, fuel pump maybe? I recently installed a new interior hood pad since the original was crumbling away. I bought an original OEM hood pad and it's a perfect install, looks great. Engine is clean and all original. Hard top roof is included. It's in perfect shape, I don't think it's ever been used. Overall, the car is in
great shape. It's such a fun car to scoot around town in, and I'm sure you'll
love it. I've kept my reserve
low. Feel free to phone or email with any questions at all. You're welcome of
course to inspect the car as you'd like. Includes new mats
(generic), original manual, passenger compartment add-on wind screen block
and a fitted car cover. The car is in my home garage in Atlanta Georgia and the pick up and transportation are the buyers responsibility. Winning bid must be paid within 3 days in cash, certified funds or via PayPal. This vehicle is sold "as is," and has no warranty expressed or implied. Serious inquires only please. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask by e-mail. If you require a call back, leave your number and I will call you. Happy Bidding and thanks for looking! |

Race recap: 2015 British Grand Prix is a testament to timing
Mon, Jul 6 2015In front of his home crowd, Lewis Hamilton actually had to work for pole position at the British Formula One Grand Prix. The World Champion couldn't get on top of the setup for his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on Friday, lapping behind teammate Nico Rosberg and the two Ferraris. Come Saturday, after a few alterations and a whole lot of wing to clamp down on understeer, Hamilton returned to his regular program at the front, taking pole position by just over a tenth of a second from his teammate. Williams, thought to be headed for another stretch in the weeds a few races ago, showed its best strength all year. The Grove team got both cars on the second row and in front of the Ferraris, Felipe Massa qualifying ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas, but they were eight and nine tenths behind the Mercedes'. Kimi Raikkonen out-qualified Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel for the second time this year, and only the first time in a straight-up battle with two healthy cars. But more than a second behind the two cars at the front, and with two nearly-impossible-to-pass Williams' in front, neither the Finn nor the German is happy with where they are. Daniil Kvyat claimed seventh, his side of the garage at Infiniti Red Bull Racing having got through the weekend to that point without a single complaint about their Renault power unit. Carlos Sainz, Jr. put a single Toro Rosso inside the top ten in eighth position, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg who did the same for Sahara Force India by slotting in ninth. The second Infiniti Red Bull driven by Daniel Ricciardo did have an unspecified engine complaint – his car kept "bleeding power" on the straights – but even so he managed to qualify tenth with his second-fastest lap. The stewards deleted his best lap because he ran three centimeters outside the track limits at Copse, an infraction that stung a few other drivers as well. Up in front, what would sting the Mercedes-AMG Petronas drivers the most was the start. That's when a dearth of grip struck both Hamilton and Rosberg, allowing Massa and Bottas to slide right up the middle between them and take the first two places. The leapfrogging was so surprising that it looked like the Mercedes drivers were giving the Williams drivers a head start. They diced through the first corners, Hamilton sliding past Bottas into second place halfway through the lap. And then the safety car reported for duty.
Mercedes to roll out S65 AMG Coupe in July
Mon, 07 Apr 2014We're still a couple of weeks away from the public debut of the new Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe at the fast-approaching New York Auto Show, but already we're receiving word of an even more powerful version in the works. That, of course, would be the S65 AMG Coupe - the twelve-cylinder version of the latest S-Class Coupe, two-door counterpart to the S65 AMG sedan and replacement for the outgoing CL65 AMG.
Like the four-door version rolled out back in November, the S65 AMG Coupe would be distinguished from less powerful vehicles (which, lets face it, is just about everything) principally by its engine: a massive, 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 that produces 621 horsepower, 738 pound-feet of torque and cares as much about global warming as an oil-shipping mega-tanker.
Because Merc's 4Matic all-wheel drive system can't handle that much torque, the ne plus ultra coupe would (like the S65 sedan but unlike the S63 coupe) be offered only in rear-drive form. That means it will have that much more trouble getting the power down to the road, but since the Magic Body Control suspension is similarly incompatible with 4Matic, the flagship coupe will get that trick suspension.
Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control ad is clucking awesome
Tue, 24 Sep 2013This is a new ad from Mercedes-Benz. At no point does it show an automobile. Instead, it stars animals, but not the sort you might normally see in car commercial. This ad is all about chickens. It is bizarre, to say the least, with Diana Ross and the Supremes belting it out in the background, but it all kind of comes together when you realize just what Mercedes is hawking (yeah, pun intended).
It's for the manufacturer's Magic Body Control, found on the new S-Class. The system basically analyzes the road and prepares the suspension accordingly, leading to a ride that is, in the words of our own Chris Paukert "nothing short of spooky." You can read about it in our full review of the 2014 S550. Take a look below for the 53-second spot.
