Here you go folks, a 1985 Mercedes 500 SEC for your consideration. This Mercedes is perfect for the Mercedes lover who's been looking for a 500 SEC to tinker around with while still driving it. The paint appears to have been done by a non-professional, and a few door dings, etc., that were repaired could of had a little more time spent on them. Black paint is one of the hardest jobs to sell, but look killer on anything! The front bumper must have barley tapped something and provided a few cracks as pictured. Overall, a great 50 footer, but nothing a little elbow grease and paint won't fix! :)
The interior seats are real nice, and someone had the entire interior leather dyed to freshen it up, which looks great. A little bit of overspray on some interior pieces needs to be cleaned up. Dash pad is perfect with no cracks. Carpet is good, but with a little bit of shampooing, will look even better! All windows work, except the passenger rear window (may just be the switch). Right side mirror has to be adjusted manually. The front windshield has a small 2" crack in the upper passenger corner, but passed inspection. All lights work, horn works, stereo works (6 CD changer in trunk, antenna doesn't go up or down). AC seems to blow cool, but may need to be recharged. Power seats also work, as well as the sun roof.
This V8 Mercedes runs and shifts like a beast! Transmission shifts as it should, and the engine "getty ups" when giving her some gas. The engine could use a tune up however, as it idles a little rough. Car has been sitting for awhile, as the owner has three of these. The engine cooling fan runs all the time while the engine is running, but the car does not run hot. So assume the thermostat switch may need to be changed out.
The owner just had the vehicle VA State Inspected in July 2013. She also had 4 brand new Continental 205/65/15 tires put on. The following repairs were also made in July; engine steam cleaned, replaced license plate light bulb, and fixed right side marker light, replaced brake strut bushings, replaced rear sway bar stands. A lot of money just put in it to get it inspected.
So, if your looking for a car that was approx $80K back in the day, here's a nice project to pick up and with a few weekends of TLC, will be a great car to own! Good luck.

Mercedes takes VW Westfalia Camper idea upscale with new Marco Polo
Wed, 09 Jul 2014Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz revealed the new V-Class. Slotting in below the popular Sprinter, the new V-Class replaced both the Viano and Vito upon its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. But Mercedes isn't quite done with it just yet. At the upcoming Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany, Mercedes will reveal the Marco Polo - a versatile, stylish and decidedly contemporary take on the classic camper van.
Named after the famous Italian explorer, the Marco Polo was converted by Westfalia, an outfit which you might more closely associate with classic VW camper vans but which Daimler absorbed over a decade ago. Offering, according to the press release below, "a maximum of opportunities to be independent, free and spontaneous," the Marco Polo sleeps four thanks to the rear bench that electrically folds flat into a bed and the second berth under the pop-top. The flexible interior is decked out like you'd expect a modern Mercedes to be, with ambient LED lighting as well as wood, metal and piano black trim.
It's got an onboard kitchenette with two gas burners, a sink and fridge with a 10 gallons of fresh water and an even bigger waste tank. All that gear is shlepped around by a choice of four-cylinder turbodiesel engines ranging in output from 136 to 190 horsepower. The relatively compact form boasts a turning circle similar to a full-size sedan and a height designed to fit into most garages and car washes. All of which just might make us reconsider the appeal of traveling by camper van.
Daimler wants to cut EV research spending as it preps EQ
Wed, Oct 12 2016Daimler AG is hoping that the legwork it's done preparing its EQ electric-vehicle sub-brand will allow it to slightly reduce annual spending on plug-in vehicle technology. The Mercedes-Benz parent is looking to cut electric-vehicle research-and-development spending to $13.2 billion in 2017 from about $15.4 billion this year, Bloomberg News says, citing comments Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche made to journalists in Hamburg, Germany, this week. Daimler's annual R&D spending is up from about $11.5 billion in both 2013 and 2014. Like its competitors – for example Audi and BMW and its i sub-brand – Daimler is aiming to have as much as 25 percent of its annual vehicle sales be battery-electric within the next 10 years as part of an effort to meet stricter greenhouse-gas emissions mandates in both Europe and North America. In fact, Mercedes-Benz and Daimler's Smart division collectively have at least 10 electric-vehicle models on their slates during the next few years, though Zetsche said the German automaker will continue to find ways to make its gas- and diesel-powered vehicles more fuel-efficient as well. Daimler introduced a concept version of the Generation EQ electric SUV at the Paris Motor Show late last month. It comes powered by two electric motors and is made up of a combination of steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber, and boasts a 311-mile single-charge range (on the relatively lenient European testing standards). The SUV also has 402 horsepower, and the ability to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds. Zetsche said at the time that Daimler was prepping powertrains and platforms for electric sedans, wagons, coupes, and roadsters, in addition to SUVs. Additionally, Daimler's Deutsche Accumotive unit is producing the lithium-ion battery packs for the EQs. Car subscription services: A slow, expensive start — but the potential is huge
Wed, Dec 26 2018Americans are used to paying for subscriptions — to magazines and cable television, for instance — but experience shows they'll cancel when the price of admission gets too high, or there are more tempting alternatives. Cord cutters ditched nearly 1.5 million pay-TV subscriptions in 2017, according to a survey by Leichtman Research Group. Cable TV started out cheap with basic offerings, and then got expensive. The auto industry's subscription offerings are new, but they're starting out costly, and not price-competitive with traditional leasing. The upside is that they take the hassle out of car ownership for busy people by letting the service take care of maintenance, insurance, licensing and taxes. And they give consumers choice, often allowing relatively painless switches between different cars in the automakers' lineup. Subscription services also point the way toward an ownership-free auto experience, and offer an easy transition to a potential world where ride- and car-sharing will be dominant. Subscriptions are here to stay, but consumers may take a while to "get" them. Lincoln's subscription service for lightly used 2015 to 2017 models, offered through the Ford-owned Canvas beginning this year, got off to a slow start. Many early subscribers canceled. Last month, Cadillac announced it would " temporarily pause" its $1,800-per-month Book subscription service for "adjustments" as of December 1. According to the Wall Street Journal, "Snags with the back-end technology used to support the service made some customer-service functions tedious and time-consuming, adding costs for the company." The challenge for automakers is to come up with a strategy that offers consumers a compelling, affordable option to regular ownership, and one that can also make a profit. I think they'll find that sweet spot, but they're not there yet. Jack Nerad, former executive editorial director at Kelley Blue Book and author of " The Complete Idiot's Guide to Buying or Leasing a Car," points out that "A lot of people expected that subscriptions would be very valuable for people who wanted inexpensive transportation, but the reality is quite the opposite. Subscriptions are offering more choices for the wealthy.
