THINK IT LOOKS GREAT PARKED? WAIT TIL YOU FEEL INCREDIBLE POWER OF THE ENGINE THAT CAN HUM EFFORTLESSLY AT HIGH SPEED CONTINUOUSLY. THIS IS A GERMAN ENGINEERING MARVEL.  IT WAS DESIGNED FOR THE AUTOBAHN, WHERE SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 150 MPH+ ARE EFFORTLESS. SMOOTH, SAFE (AS LONG AS THE NUT BEHIND THE WHEEL KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING:)

CLEAN - CLEAN - CLEAN.  CAR COVER INCLUDED!

LIKE THE REST OF THE CAR, A VERY WELL MAINTAINED ENGINE. ROUTINELY CHANGED OIL, NEW BATTERY, AIR CLEANER, ETC. MECHANICS FOUND IT TO BE WORKING FLAWLESSLY.  AT 25 YEARS OLD, THAT ISN'T JUST A TESTAMENT TO EXCELLENT MAINTENANCE, IT'S INCREDIBLY WELL-DESIGNED. TIRES AND LEATHER ARE IN GOOD SHAPE. FUEL SYSTEM JUST SERVICED. DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH WINDOW TRAVEL SINCE OWNERSHIP. NO FURTHER DATA. FLYWHEEL MAY HAVE A DAMAGED TOOTH, AS VERY RARELY, STARTER WILL NOT ENGAGE INITIALLY, BUT THEN DOES. MINOR INCONVENIENCE. FUEL INJECTORS RECENTLY FULLY SERVICED.

HERE IS ONE, OF TWO KNOWN PAINT FLAWS. IT'S A SPOT LESS THAN 2" SQUARE, ON THE HOOD, WHERE THE PAINT CAME OFF. NOT SURE WHY.  There is another, smaller such spot, on the hood.

BACK SEAT CONTROLS. YES, IT'S REAL LEATHER. THERE'S EVEN AN INDEPENDENT SOURCE OF 12 VOLTS FOR LAPTOPS, OR CIGARETTES. THIS CAR HAS HAD NO SMOKERS IN IT. IT SMELLS GO-O-O-O-O-O-D INSIDE.

SUN/SHADE/MOON ROOF

MERCEDES -BENZ : THIS ONE WAS BUILT IN GERMANY AND REPRESENTS THE PINNACLE OF MB RELIABILITY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP.

DEALERS TELL ME THIS ENGINE IS EXTRAORDINARY, AND HAVE BEEN SEEN PROBLEM-FREE WITH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES ON THEM.

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is Affalterbach's first big leap into the little pond

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

The recent history of AMG is turning out amped-up versions of Mercedes-Benz offerings that would hardly ever be mistaken for their sedate counterparts. Sure, you'd need to pay attention to pick a G-Class from the G63 AMG, but dual side-pipes are a quick giveaway. The Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is not only a new era in Affalterbach's attention on smaller cars, it is probably also the most subtle transformation we can think of in the line-up.
Low and chunky enough in standard guise to make a sporting impression, the aesthetic makeover is confined to black trim around the lower rim of the hatch, black wheels with red brake calipers and a single, rectangular exhaust tip on either side of the diffuser. It's easier to make a positive ID inside, where the flat-bottomed steering wheel, red seatbelts and red-rimmed details say, "You know what I am..."
If the car is running, though, it won't take but a second. The 2.0-liter turbo spitting 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet will grumble through a sport exhaust at idle, and bellow through the same on it's way to a 0-60 time of less than 4.5 seconds. And if you need something that looks a little harder - and you want those quad pipes - then the A45 AMG Edition 1 is the treasure you seek. There's a press release below for all the info you'll need until the hot hatch goes on sale in Germany later this year, and photos for the rest of us while we wait to find out if we'll get a chance to buy it.

McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari call for unfreezing F1 engines

Mon, Dec 29 2014

Formula One is a hugely expensive sport. Not only do you have enormous salaries and logistical expenses, as you would in any other sport, but each team also spends huge sums developing their own chassis from the ground up – and so too do the participating automakers in developing the engines. One of the ways the series organizers mitigate those costs is by freezing development. So once the new crop of V6 turbo hybrid powertrains were developed, that was it. But now three of the of the sport's leading teams are calling on the FIA to unfreeze engine development. Their reason? Unfair advantage. There's little question that Mercedes did the best job of developing its "power unit" to meet the new regulations that took effect at the beginning of this past season. That's how the Mercedes team won all but three of the grands prix this season and finished with at least one car on the podium at every single race. It's also a big part of how the teams that bought their engines from Mercedes this season managed to consistently outperform the other non-works-supported teams. That clear advantage is why Red Bull, Ferrari and now McLaren are calling for engine development to be unfrozen. Their argument is that, under the current locked-down status quo, their engine suppliers (Renault, Ferrari and Honda, respectively) cannot possibly catch up. So unless the FIA and Formula One Management want the next few seasons to be the kind of absolute blow-outs that this past season was, these leading teams argue, the powers that be are going to have to make some changes. For its part, Mercedes naturally counters that unfreezing engine development would send costs spiraling out of control. But then of course it stands to lose the most by re-opening engine development. If those three teams, however, closely intertwined as they are with the three other engine suppliers participating in next year's championship, manage to solicit enough support from the other customer teams and bring the matter to a vote, Mercedes may very well find itself out-numbered. First official shot of Mercedes S-Class Coupe leaks out

Mon, 10 Feb 2014

With the official debut for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe expected tomorrow, it shouldn't be a surprise that some clicky fingers have already managed to uncover an official image of the car before the unveiling. Outside of this sole image, though, there's precious little detail on the new car.
First posted by Autofilou and then picked up by WorldCarFans, the production S-Class Coupe isn't far off from the concept car we saw a few months back in Frankfurt. Like the concept, the leggy production model appears related, albeit distantly, to the S-Class Sedan. The hood and front fascia are longer and lower, befitting of a two-door, while the character lines in the profile are more pronounced. Obviously, the beltline and slim, B-pillarless greenhouse are coupe-only items. We can't see any details on the back of the car, although it does appear that the long hood has a correspondingly short rear deck.
We'll have all the details on the official replacement for the CL-Class when it makes its full debut tomorrow. Until then, what do you think of this lone image? Does it appear that Mercedes has got it right? In terms of design, where would you rank this with the departing CL-Class? Have your say in Comments.
