This is a sale for my 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 4.5L

I bought this Mercedes straight out of a storage unit a few months ago.  According to the driving log/record book that was in the passenger seat, the last time the car was driven was back in 1999 for something like 12 miles. The original owner then stored the Mercedes in a storage garage. According to the storage facility manager, the original owner passed away, and due to non-payment the vehicle became their property.

I was a tow truck driver, and was dispatched to pick the Mercedes up and take it to a tire shop to fix the flat.  Eventually, he talked me into buying it.
Well, I never got a chance to work on it (monetarily) and now I just want to do something else.

I know that in order to start a vehicle that's been in storage PROPERLY, there's a list of things you should do before turning the engine over.
I never wound up getting enough time and money together to change the oil, shoot oil into the spark plug cylinders, drain the gas tank, or other fluids, etc... so,
I HAVEN'T STARTED IT. I thought a person who wanted to restore this vehicle wouldn't want everything gummed up with old bad fluids, so that puts me at a disadvantage for sales.  MY old tow manager told me I should start it anyways just to say that it runs and drives... But, I decided to stick to my guns on not starting it until the fluids were changed.... so, here we are.

However, I DID hook up a jump box to the battery to check all electrical, and the vents, etc. SO that's how I know all of that stuff works.

The Good::

-Only 102k miles
-Was in a storage unit for roughly the last 13 years
-Extremely NICE Interior
-No Dents
-All fluids look clean
-Power Windows Work
-Radio and all speakers work
-The Vents all work and blow air
-Have Clear title
-Horn works
-All lights (tail, head, signal, reverse, interior...+) work
-No door sag
-NO RUST*

The Bad::

-The flaky clear-coat makes the car look like $#!+
-Still has a flat tire
-*Some pitting is starting on the chrome rims
-The windshield washer fluid reservoir is cracked
-There is a tear on the backseat, and a bit of the stitching is coming undone (refer to pictures)
-The dashboard has three cracks on it (refer to pictures)
-All fluids are 13+ years old
-No trunk key (It's a different key than the ignition -$15@Benz-dealer w/title)
-Slight scrape on front right bumper (refer to picture)

Online Find of the Day: Lexus-engined Mercedes pickup is a vintage hybrid

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

You have to love someone who gets incredibly committed to a very weird idea. What you see for sale here is a right-hand drive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D in South Africa, but this old Mercedes is now converted into a pickup, complete with bed cover, and there's big secret under the hood, too.
The pickup conversion appears well done based on seller Sedgefield Classic Cars' photos. Even the tonneau cover fits well. You could almost believe that this Mercedes lived its life as a Chevrolet El Camino-like pickup from the very beginning.
However, the rear-quarters conversion might not be the weirdest thing about this Mercedes. The original diesel is gone from the engine bay in favor of a Lexus V8. It seems really odd to pop the hood and find a Japanese mill in this German car, but the photos make it look like a fairly well performed swap. So, bravo to the crazy thinking. According to the seller speaking to Autoblog by email, "as far as we can establish, this was done a few years ago, with all Lexus components."

Range Rover versus Mercedes-Benz: Which makes a more appealing SUV?

Mon, Aug 14 2017

From time to time — truth be told, all the time — the Autoblog staff enjoys a good debate on the merits and demerits of the cars and trucks we drive each week. This week, we spent some time in a brand-new Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged SUV, a model some of us think sits at the pinnacle of the luxury utility vehicle segment. Others disagree. The following is a real-life online debate that took place over the course of a few hours. Have a read, and feel free to take sides. There's a poll at the end so you can make your voice heard. Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski: Strange as it may sound, Jeremy Clarkson and I have a few things in common, most obvious of which is that we share a given name. But we also both love cars so much that we decided to turn our automotive passion into a career — with varying degrees of success, of course — and we both have come to realize over time that there's no point in trying to topple the Land Rover Range Rover as the world's best luxury off-road utility vehicle. Thing is, this universal truth isn't quite as universally shared as I think it should be. In fact, my esteemed colleague Alex Kierstein believes that Mercedes-Benz makes the most desirable four-wheel-drive off-road vehicles. He's clearly wrong, but I feel obligated to let him explain his choice, though it won't go without a rebuttal. Senior Editor Alex Kierstein: That's correct, and so am I in this regard. I'm sorry, Jeremy, but it's an irrefutable fact that Mercedes-Benz is doing the best interiors in the business now. And the interior is where you're going to spend most of your time, at least when the thing's running. The Range Rover's interior simply isn't as special, and frankly it'll be in the shop enough that you won't enjoy it. Now, stepping into pretty much any contemporary Mercedes sedan interior is a "wow" moment. They seem special — posh, exclusive, luxurious. The SUVs, all older vehicles coming due for total redesigns at some point in the future, are lagging a bit, but it's still a premium and upscale experience. Especially since performance is almost academic at this point. Anything in this class is going to be powerful, almost absurdly so. So why not go for the one that makes you feel like royalty, rather than your mechanic? JK: I just want to point out that it was you who brought reliability into this discussion.
