1979 Mercedes-benz 450sel 6.9: Entirely Original, 42k Mi, One Owner, All Records on 2040-cars
Santa Barbara, California, United States
Offered for sale is a truly exceptional, one owner, original paint, original interior, factory sunroof, thoroughly maintained (with completely documented service history from new), 42k original mile 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 with the original window sticker and sales documents. Finished in factory original and ever-popular Astral Silver Metallic (DB 735) over beautiful Black leather seats and sporting only 42,618 original miles from new, this W116 6.9 is arguably the finest available on the market today, the very best of Mercedes’ very best. Fitted with the fabled M100 6.9L V8 engine, a hydro-pneumatic self-leveling suspension (properly serviced) and more technological advancements than any other car available at the time, owning this wolf in sheep’s clothing new was reserved for only the most discriminating and (at a sticker price of more than $52k), moneyed buyers. Unfortunately the cars were also comparably expensive to maintain, causing a vast majority of them to fall into disrepair in their secondary or tertiary owners’ care. Finding exceptionally clean, well-maintained, original and low mileage examples is virtually impossible, and for this reason their popularity with collectors has realized a significant resurgence. Consequently we feel fortunate to have come across this example, one
that would be entirely at home in either a serious Mercedes collection or the
garage of a weekend enthusiast. Sold new by Murray Motor Imports of Denver, CO
to its first and only owner, the car comes with its original window sticker,
denoting a fully loaded example (including optional sunroof) delivered in July
of 1979 with a sales price of $52,025.00. A wealthy Denver area businessman,
the original owner always had the car serviced at either Murray Motor Imports
(the Mercedes dealership there at the time), Mercedes-Benz of Littleton, CO or
Star Tech of Denver, a highline independent Mercedes specialist. Accompanying the car is a thick stack of service receipts for all the work ever performed throughout his 35 years of ownership, providing both
evidence of the high level of maintenance the car has received, as well as a chain of paperwork that confirms that the 42k miles showing on the odometer are entirely
original. Used sparingly throughout the years but always kept up, garaged and
used only in suitable weather, the car is in fantastic original condition
throughout, including an accident and rust-free history and completely original
paint. The factory original Astral Silver finish is entirely consistent, deep and lustrous, marred only by the most insignificant of imperfections, none of which appear in any of the pictures. The body is entirely straight, free of any evidence of repairs and with consistent, correct gaps and panel fits. The chrome is in excellent original condition, as is the glass and rubber, and the light alloy wheels are flawless and wrapped in tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s undercarriage is original and entirely solid, never subjected to the elements and completely free of rust. The car’s interior is equally as clean, the original black leather seats showing only minimal wear with flawless carpets, interior panels and headliner. Everything works, including the original Becker radio and cassette player, air conditioning system (which blows cold) and all of the power windows and sunroof. The glovebox houses the original owner’s manual, spare keys and all of the car’s service records, including the original window sticker and an original 6.9 sales brochure also accompanies the sale. The trunk is clean and correct and the only thing on the car that’s not original is a car-phone added by the owner at some point in the 1990s, however we can also remove the system entirely upon request. The car is fantastic mechanically, its massive V8 starting easily,
idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the
gears. Compression is excellent, allowing this German muscle car to accelerate
with robust, stable force. As with all Mercedes models of this generation,
tank-like build quality and a devotion to over-engineering – especially coupled
with the hydro-pneumatic suspension – creates a ride quality that was second to
none at the time and is still astonishing today. The suspension was recently
comprehensively serviced and car is entirely road-ready and a joy to drive,
whether tooling through town or bombing down the highway. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire what is undoubtedly one of
the finest, lowest mileage, most original examples of the legendary 6.9
available on the market. As rare and iconic Mercedes models continue to
appreciate at dizzying rates, this is assuredly one of the models to have, one
of the last true Mercedes classics in hard-to-find, stellar, completely original condition.
Please bid accordingly. We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to further
discuss it and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call us
at 805-202-4557. You can also visit us online at GoodmanReed. Goodman Reed Motorcars We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the
years have created an eclectic personal collection. We only buy cars that we’d
personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room
for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Mercedes (if the price is
right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions
of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and we encourage
and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But
please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our ability to make sales
to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before
bidding. For
U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the
auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end.
Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end.
Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with
recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the
right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end.
Thanks for your interest. |

Daimler employees can set email to auto-delete during vacation
Mon, 18 Aug 2014The Internet has shrunk the world in terms of the way people communicate by making it possible to send an email from Oslo and have it show up in Cleveland almost immediately. But that instant contact has wrecked the work/life balance for many. They get home from a long day at the office, yet they can never fully put their feet up and relax because another hour or more of checking and replying to emails awaits. However, German automotive giant Daimler is putting an end to that churn, at least while its employees are on vacation.
About 100,000 Daimler employees in Germany are eligible to opt-in to a new program called Mail on Holiday, according to The Atlantic. When the workers go on vacation, they can switch it on, and the service auto-deletes all of their incoming email. "Our employees should relax on holiday and not read work-related emails," said Wilfried Porth, board member for human resources, to The Financial Times as cited by The Atlantic.
Mail on Holiday puts a thumb on the scale of work/life balance in favor of a little more free time. The system means that Daimler employees shouldn't even be tempted to check their email on vacation because there's nothing there - and it also avoids them coming back from a relaxing holiday only to find a mailbox packed full of hundreds of unread messages. These days, people are absolutely obsessed with their work, often to the detriment of their health, not to mention spending time with their families and friends. On one hand, Mail on Holiday sounds like the sort of vacation breakthrough we'd need to truly unplug and unwind, but on the other hand, it makes our skin crawl just thinking about the lack of communication. What's your perspective? Have your say in Comments.
Major Alexa deal will bring Amazon services into more cars
Wed, Jan 9 2019Amazon and its personal assistance service Alexa are partnering with HERE Technologies to create a new connected mobility service powerhouse. Alexa will integrate with HERE's navigation and location services to offer what the two companies are calling a "true voice-first-navigation experience." Alexa will come pre-integrated with HERE navigation on-demand, which the automakers can then enable, which should help cut down on development time. One of the biggest features from this partnership is how directions could be offered and delivered using HERE's Open Location Platform (OLP). Currently, the OLP uses data from several car manufacturers to provide insights into real-time location and traffic. But on Alexa, this could be used to provide directional context. For example, Alexa could say, "Turn right after [such-and-such a building]" rather than just, "Turn right." Amazon has been testing the automotive waters throughout the past decade. Its home-based Alexa-enabled devices are already offered with connections to several manufacturers. To various degrees of integration, it can already pair with Ford, Genesis, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai and BMW vehicles. At the end of 2018, Amazon took things a step further when it introduced the Echo Auto, a Bluetooth-connected Alexa assistant device that can be physically kept in a car. Currently only available by invitation (its production and distribution have been delayed), the $25 device is essentially a voice service that works together with smartphones and connects to a car's speakers. Users can command it to do a variety of things, including playing music, setting navigation, opening the garage door, finding local stores, making calls, setting reminders, and thousands of other "skills." According to The Verge, nearly 1 million people have already ordered the device. Some (well, probably few) may know HERE Technologies from its maps on Windows Phones. We all know how that turned out, though. Today, HERE has expanded into a multi-function suite that is available in multiple mediums, including many automotive applications. HERE Automotive's connected vehicle services include real-time traffic, parking, weather, fuel prices, hazard warnings, traffic sign integration, and even EV charging stations. These all incorporate and extend the use of HERE's location and tracking programming. HERE is already partnered with BMW, Audi, Daimler, Intel, Mobileye, NVIDIA, and has investments from Bosch, Continental and Pioneer.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton buys LaFerrari
Tue, Mar 24 2015Lewis Hamilton has driven some of the fastest cars ever devised, like the McLaren MP4-23 with which he won the 2008 Formula One World Championship, the Mercedes W05 with which he won the title last year, and the new W06 he drove to the checkered flag in the season opener earlier this month. But what does he drive in his spare time? According to the latest reports quoting his boss Toto Wolff, the reigning champ celebrated his win at the Australian Grand Prix by ordering a new LaFerrari. The seven-figure, 950-horsepower hybrid hypercar may be made by a rival manufacturer to the team for which he drives, but then his employers at Mercedes don't (for the time being at least) build anything that competes in the segment – unlike his former employers at McLaren that offer the similarly potent P1. Something tells us he won't be invited to drive it at Fiorano, though - which is something his rivals Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel have all had the chance to do. Hamilton has a long-established penchant for driving twelve-cylinder exotic supercars in his spare time. At his previous place of work, he was promised an exceedingly rare McLaren F1 LM – valued at some $4 million – but only if he won three world titles for the Woking-based team. He also owns a Pagani Zonda that was made specifically for him with a 760-horsepower engine (supplied, naturally, by Mercedes) and a six-speed manual – complete with a clutch pedal, which (apart from starting off the line) is something he doesn't usually get to operate during working hours.
