W123 300d Turbo Diesel California Model on 2040-cars
Michigan City, Indiana, United States
Please read the entire description, I'm including some tools as well. Selling my 85 300d turbo diesel. Its a California model that has 225k miles on it. Car was optioned with leather interior and for the most part the interior is in great shape. I intend to be as honest as possible in my description. Service records are fairly complete but I can tell you what I've done in the past two years. CV axles (china) comes with originals, rear sway bar links, front wheel bearings, shocks (all four), front upper control arms, air conditioning compressor, tires, rebuilt injectors with monarch nozzles, recent valve job, replaced all hvac vacuum actuator, rear door lock actuator, fixed one of the rear window regulator (pass rear needs fixing). I think that's about it. This car currently has no vacuum leaks, all doors lock and unlock. Car can sit for well over a week and still unlock all doors. Originated from California so it has very minimal to no rust. I've never had the car not start due to cold weather (<0F) runs excellent very little smoke under WOT. Truly a pleasure to drive down the highway.
The bad: front drivers seat could use a little tlc, the leather has separated from the lower frame. Dash has a small crack in it (pictured), Rear end chunks on down shift and when going from R to D however, it's done this since I've had it and I'm not concerned about it. The paint on the hood roof and trunk is sun faded however the body is extremely clean there is only one small dent that I know of. Other then that the body is very good shape, I was going to have the car repainted but I decided I preferred the look of the patina on the roof, hood and trunk. Cruise control works, but not that great. Sometimes the AUTO setting on HVAC controls doesn't bring the fan on, just have to turn it on high and set back to auto. Air conditioning compressor was replaced recently and the A/C works however it recently began making a noise, I did have the belts of recently so it could just be a loose belt but its been cool out so I haven't been using it Car was originally from California spent some years in AZ as well (from service records). Its a very clean car and I hate to see it go I just have too many projects right now. I have the original sales receipt for the vehicle, maintenance history is also fairly complete. If there are more questions regarding this I can take pictures of it when I return home tomorrow. I have several specialty tools that will go with the car as well as instructions for various maintenance things. Injector pop tester (with guide), valve adjustment wrenches (with guide), Diesel compression test kit, Pre-chamber removal tool, glow plug reamer, there may be others but that's all I can think of you will get what I have. Please keep in mind this car is in very good shape for its age and it has been taken care of and maintained and it also comes with most tools necessary to keep it maintained. These cars are a lot of fun to own but keep in mind it is almost 30 years old I would recommend being able to perform maintenance and willing to work on it. Please email me if you have any questions. I will be able to provide additional pictures upon request. I would not hesitate driving this car anywhere! |

Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury fully revealed, tea set and all
Tue, Apr 24 2018Mercedes has officially unveiled its Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept following a leak of most of the details last week. As we learned last week, the unusual looking sedan-SUV crossbreed is fully electric with four motors producing a whopping 750 horsepower. Combined with an 80 kWh battery, Mercedes estimates it should have a range of over 200 miles on the European test cycle. It also can handle extremely fast charging from DC chargers outputting 350 kW. Mercedes claims this allows it to gain 60 miles of range in 5 minutes. But there are a number of interesting details that weren't leaked. Many of them have to do with the car's Chinese inspiration, which is perhaps not that surprising for a car that makes its debut in China. The body style is the first influence, which Mercedes says combines the sedan and SUV, the best-selling car classes in the country. On the inside, there are a pair of cues inspired by China. The first is the ebony wood trim that Mercedes calls "Magic Wood." The company says it's very similar to that used in Chinese furniture. In the back, between the two highly adjustable white leather seats with rose-gold stitching, is a complete tea set. And not only does it contain all the containers for tea, but it actually has a variety of teas on offer. They're there to be used in conjunction with the car's relaxation modes that combine lighting, music and scents to set the mood. It's hard to say whether this concept will spawn a production model, since the body style is unlike any currently offered by Mercedes-Benz. But with the crossover SUV market staying hot, and competitors such as Audi and BMW bringing out extra-large SUVs, we wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes eventually offers at least a Maybach-level version of its GLS-Class, if not its own model. Daimler names Bernd Pischetsrieder to supervisory board
Mon, 14 Apr 2014Some executives in the automotive industry stay with one company for their entire careers, while others bounce from one to the other, often leaving their indelible mark on each automaker at which they serve. Bob Lutz is certainly an example of the latter. So is Lee Iacocca, having presided over Ford and later charing the Chrysler board. Carlos Tavares was chief operating officer of Renault before being nominated as chief executive at PSA Peugeot Citroën. But as far as the Germans go, nobody's jumped from the leadership of one automaker to the next quite like Bernd Pischetsrieder - especially now that he's been named to the supervisory board of Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler.
An engineer by training, Pischetsrieder started his career at BMW in 1973, eventually rising to the office of CEO after twenty years. There he remained until 1999, only to be dismissed after orchestrating BMW's takeover of the Rover Group (of which only the Mini brand remains in the company's portfolio, the other brands having been sold off after his dismissal).
The next year he was named chairman of Volkswagen's Seat brand, and rose to the chairmanship of the entire Volkswagen Group two years later. Despite a largely successful four-year tenure (that gave birth, incidentally, to the Bugatti Veyron), disagreements with supervisory board chairman Ferdinand Piëch saw him leave the helm at VW AG, focusing his attention on the Scania truck division. He's since been touted as a potential chief executive for Opel and for Continental, but neither potential was apparently realized.
Why we can't have better headlights here in the U.S.
Tue, Mar 13 2018It wouldn't be a European auto show if we weren't teased with at least one mainstream vehicle we can't have here. At the Geneva Motor Show last week, the small but vocal contingent of shooting-brake buffs lamented that the Mazda6 wagon won't be coming to our shores, although they can take comfort in the fact that the vehicle won't get the torquey 250-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine we'll get here. Mercedes-Benz also announced a new headlight technology in Geneva that likely won't be available here anytime soon. It's just the latest in a long line of innovative and potentially lifesaving front-lighting solutions that the federal government doesn't allow in this country due to outdated standards — and a current lack of leadership at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mercedes-Benz's new Digital Light system that debuted in Geneva uses a computer chip to activate more than a million micro-reflectors to better illuminate the road ahead. The Digital Light headlamps works with the vehicle's cameras, sensors and navigation mapping to adjust lighting for the given location and situation and to detect other road users. The Digital Light technology also serves as an extended head-up display of sorts by projecting symbols on the pavement ahead to alert drivers to, say, slippery conditions or pedestrians in the road. And it can even project lines on the road in a construction zone or through tight curves to show the driver the correct path. Digital Light will be available on Mercedes-Maybach vehicles later this year, although like any technology it's bound to trickle down to less expensive vehicles. That is, if we ever get it here in the U.S. Audi, a leader in automotive lighting, has repeatedly run into snags trying to bring state-of-the-art car headlights to the U.S. The German luxury automaker's recently introduced matrix laser headlight system, which performs many of the same trick as Mercedes-Benz's Digital Light, also isn't legal on U.S. roads. And five years after the introduction of its matrix-beam LED lighting, which illuminates more of the road without blinding oncoming motorists with brights by simultaneously operating high and low beams, Audi still can't bring that technology to the U.S. either.
