I bought this car from a dealer in NJ who specialized in buying and selling to/from other dealers. He listed

this car on ebay with the claim that every once in a while he saw a car so special that he would pull it
out of the pack and sell it to the public on an individual basis.

I bought it, but now I am moving overseas to an other-side-of-the-road country and so need to sell it.

True things about it being "special":

The overall condition of the car, in and out, really is impressive for its age. I get a lot
of comments from people about its nice condition.

He claimed it was mechanically perfect, and he would drive it anywhere without hesitation. This has
proven to be true. I have driven it back and forth between NJ and VT almost every weekend since I bought
it, as well as every day around town. I also would not hesitate to drive it cross country right now.

It has a valid NJ inspection (until 5/2013) and also a valid VT inspection (until 12/2013).

It is one of the last of the tank Mercedes. It is very solid and heavy. I had originally thought about
it becoming my 17y/o daughter's , just in case of an accident.

It has lots of power, and is pretty impressive when merging, especially for its weight.

It starts first time, every time and seems to have a tight, solid drive train.

The power windows, power headrest, power seats, sunroof, cruise, power steering wheel adjust, etc. all work fine.

It is very clean underneath as well.

False things about it being "special":
There are a few things which do not work. One dashboard illumination light is out, though you can still  see everything in the dark.
The abs light comes on once in a while after driving some distance. It is always off when the car starts though. The dashboard clock (old style with hands) does not work.

It has a small rust spot in the lower corner of the front left wheel-well. The paint is still on it, so it is not very noticeable,  but it should be dealt with.

The leather on the side of the driver seat and the back of the armrest has wear lines and is not perfect looking like the rest of the extensive interior leather.

I don't think the climate control stays on the set temperature correctly. It seems to sometimes be warmer, and/or cooler than the temperature at which you set it.

I am not sure if the radio works.

VT does not issue titles for vehicles 1997 or newer, so I have the transferable registration which they issue in lieu that you can take to your DMV to get a title
if your state does so. I also have the NJ title to the vehicle from when I bought it which you can have. Bring cash (only), drive it home.

It's a nice one.

The car could be picked up in either NJ or VT.

Mercedes GLS updates Silver Star seven-seater

Mon, Dec 15 2014

It can be bewildering, the staggering array of crossovers and SUVs offered by Mercedes-Benz. There's the G, the GL, the GLK and the GLA, not to mention the new GLE and the ML that basically started it all. So you can forgive yourself if you've never heard of the GLS. After all, it doesn't currently exist. But it will soon. In accordance with Benz's new nomenclature, the GLS-Class will be the replacement for the GL – the largest of the Mercedes utility vehicles and the only one with three rows of seats. Since the current GL was only launched about two and a half years ago, the new nameplate won't be attached to an all-new model just yet. But as you can see from these spy shots, it appears that Mercedes is preparing a facelifted version of the existing model to fit into the new (or at least renamed) lineup. The biggest changes discernible from these spy shots is the revised front end, with new headlights, a more upright grille and a reshaped bumper and hood to go along with it. Around back the changes are more subtle, with reshaped tail lamps, bumper and exhaust pipes. Inside we're expecting a cleaner center console with a new 8-inch touchscreen reportedly inspired by the iPhone. We don't know when, exactly, to expect the revised GLS to arrive on the scene, but given the relatively modest nature of the revisions and how close they look to being ready, we wouldn't expect it to be long now. Whether those minor changes will be enough to keep up with the all-new Audi Q7 just announced, however, is another matter entirely.

UK workers strand car on island of asphalt to keep working

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Generally speaking, when you illegally park your car, you're likely to get ticketed and towed, but there is probably at least one motorist in Scotland who wishes that was the case. After workers had blocked off a portion of the parking lot for the Edinburgh Waverley railway station, the driver of this Mercedes-Benz S-Class reportedly moved some of the barriers to park in one of the empty spots.
Rather than having the vehicle towed, the work crew simply tore up the asphalt around the leaving just the one parking spot intact, and as you can see in the image above (posted to the Twitter account of Harold Norstad), the crew even built a small asphalt ramp so the car could get off its blacktop pedestal. Since this happened last week, there's no word as to whether the car was eventually moved or towed for the resurfacing work to continue.
Let this be a warning...

Race recap: 2015 Singapore Grand Prix full of odd sideshows

Mon, Sep 21 2015

What greeted the Formula One teams in Singapore? Confusion. The haze was so thick that observers wondered if the race would be held at all. Then practices began, and Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver Nico Rosberg took the first one, but the team fell away after that. Mercedes said it couldn't get the tires turned on, but no one believed the Silver Arrows was in genuine trouble. Then qualifying set the confusion in stone. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel laid down the best time in Q3, taking the team's first pole position since Germany in 2012. Daniel Ricciardo got his Infiniti Red Bull Racing into second, about one tenth behind Vettel. (That may make the team feel better after Ricciardo publicly asked for a better engine than the current Renault unit, and team advisor Helmut Marko said the outfit will quit F1 at the end of this year if it can't get a stronger powerplant for 2016.) Kimi Raikkonen put the second Ferrari in third, Daniil Kvyat put the second Red Bull in fourth. And only then came the Meredes'. Lewis Hamilton's best got him fifth, the Brit saying, "We don't really know what we have got wrong. For some reason the tires are not working on the car. We do the warm-up the same as everyone else and then you see someone one second up the road." For added emphasis on the reversal of fortune, his time was 1.6 seconds behind Vettel's. Teammate Rosberg is next to him in sixth, a further half a second back. Williams is still a hurting a bit on slow tracks, so Valtteri Bottas could only get into seventh ahead of Max Verstappen in the Toro Rosso and teammate Felipe Massa in ninth. When the red lights went out, the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix would get both less interesting and more interesting all the way to the final lap. The men up front got good getaways, and the order into Turn 1 was Vettel, Ricciardo, and Raikkonen. The race finished with those three in that order, never having conceded position. Vettel's Ferrari enjoyed the track so much that he laid a second per lap into Ricciardo for the first five, then relaxed. He'd let the gap come down later in the race a couple of times, but any time he wanted to see what his mirrors looked like without anyone in them he'd take off again. Rosberg took fourth position after holding down sixth for the first stint. It looked like he'd have an even worse day - for a Mercedes driver - when he had problems getting his car started and onto the grid before the race.
