Mercedes Benz
300TE Wagon

VIN: WDBEA90D1KF115163

Here’s another great driving Mercedes we’ve acquired recently for our Ebay customers.  This nice 7 passenger wagon was owned by the daughter of a friend.  She and her family left the state with a job transfer a few weeks ago and couldn’t bring the Benz along.  Knowing we sell many clean, original (mostly vintage) Mercedes here on Ebay, they’ve asked me to find the next caretaker for their daily driver.  Over the past twenty years my wife and I have always had a Benz wagon in the garage, mostly as weekend hauler & back-up rig, and they really are perfect for packing in all the kids for a fun holiday outing or even as a grocery-getter.  Where else will you find this kind of luxury, style, safety and mechanical reliability wrapped up in one ride?  Please feel free to contact me with questions or to make an offer.  My name is Mark Thompson and my direct phone number is 206/914-1173.  You’re welcome and encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and drive this nice car here at my Auburn warehouse facility

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Ever driven one of these Mercedes with the powerful inline six 3.0 liter engine?  Smooth is the word for sure.  Smooth powerful acceleration.  Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway, too.  I’ve also always considered these mid-size W124 chassis models as really the easiest to drive and most nimble of the product line in their day.  Take a look at the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me what a nice wagon this is.  What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only.  It’s obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall condition is superior to most others you'll be able to find.  Rust?  Please, this Benz hates rust and you WON’T find a thing to worry about here.  While the Northwest is famous for rain, our winter roads are never salted.  We only have one or two days of light snow each year.  Everyone panics and stays home.  Climb over, under and all around this wagon - I know you’ll come up smiling!!  Having personally owned more than twenty Mercedes over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for their style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience

CONDITION:

In total, this is a clean, smoke-free car.  I take pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about it as possible.  Accordingly here is a list of the good and also small things I’ve encountered that might need attention: Turn the key when fully warmed and the powerful 3.0L fuel injected six engine fires right up every time (I’ve found it can be a tiny bit finicky wanting to drop off idle for the first minute or so when cold, but always runs great after warming a bit).  The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and strongly; just as it should. The car runs and drives like a Mercedes is supposed to – strong oil pressure, good battery and charging system, no overheating, and no brake pull to either side or alignment issues!   I’ve put on almost 500 miles over the past three weeks including freeway cruising for several hours at a time.  Though I’m not an expert, the paint does appear to be factory original and is in good overall condition.  There are minor scratches and rock chips as pictured.  The front fenders, doors, rear quarters and floor pans are all solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is in fine condition for a 24 year-old car!  No other exterior body flaws to point out and I see no evidence of accident repair.  The factory wheels are straight and true. They’re wrapped with high-quality 295/65R15 Firestone “Champion HR” radials each with at least 70-75% remaining tread.  The jack, spare, tools and even the original first aid kit are safely stored in their rear compartments.

Take another good look at the interior shots.  Hop in and feel comfortable sitting on these firm front buckets for hours as the springs and original Mercedes vinyltex have held up far better than most.  The rear seat looks like new.  The heater/defroster works fine.  The speedo (and odometer) work intermittently.  Can’t say the same for the windscreen wiper; it’s very slow and often doesn’t want to move.  The rear window wiper works great!  AS you see in the photos, there’s no evidence of any water leakage on the headliner and the sunroof opens/closes easily.  Almost surprisingly, the factory Becker stereo still works!  I can’t say I’ve had the same luck with the radios in our 2002 E320 sedan or 2005 4-matic Wagon.  You’d think, based on the initial cost and overall quality of a Mercedes, that the Daimler factory would have little difficulty coming up with a quality, long-lasting stereo for their cars.

I’m always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you’re also welcome to do what many of my previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in here to Seattle (We’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a road trip home the same day!  As a respected Ebay seller with many, many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this Benz runs and drives as it should AND that it is being properly represented to you!  Please don’t be upset if I miss a minor flaw or some small issue comes up on the car as NO used vehicle is perfect.  Having said that, I won’t hesitate to drive long distance in this Mercedes today!

Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid!  You’re encouraged to stop by, inspect the car at my Auburn, Washington warehouse and take it for a test drive.  As always, it is being sold “as-is, where-is” with a free & clear Washington State title.

A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:

Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback.  I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on Ebay contact me before placing their bid.  Please feel free to contact me directly thru EBay’s system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173 anytime.  My name is MARK THOMPSON.

A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end.  We can accept PAYPAL, but only for the deposit amount because of the high fees they charge.  The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me.   Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract!  You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.

If you do decide to have the Benz shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from.  We deal with them regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS).  They're EBay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote.  Call my designated rep, Janice, directly at (469)587-5096.  Give her my affiliate number (2362642) and she can pull up all our information for door-to-door or even station-to-station price quotes.

As an alternative, you might also get bids from the U-Ship.com website.  You’ll be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers.  The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington).  The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER

The Mercedes can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received.  After that period storage is $20 per day

This or That: Mercedes S-Class 350SD vs. 2003 Jaguar XJR [w/poll]

Thu, Mar 26 2015

Budget. It's a wretched word, whether you're going out to eat, shipping for a new outfit or, more relevant to today's discussion, buying a car. Massive marketing machines have convinced us, as a population, to buy the best you can afford, repercussions be damned – If you've saved up some money, spend it! All of it, on whatever it is that currently sits atop your personal Amazon wishlist, be it a Timex that takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin', a $17,000 Gold Apple Watch or a $60,000 Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. But what if the best you can afford is... say, $12,815? For that price, you can buy a brand-new 2015 Nissan Versa (including destination), assuming you're happy with zero options and a manual transmission. For that price, you'll get standard air conditioning, a CD player and... well, a warranty. Pretty sensible choice, Captain Frugal. But also ridiculously uninspired. And so that brings us to today's edition of This or That, in which two Autoblog editors pick differing sides of an argument and duke it out to see which one of us can convince you, dear reader, is better. Or at least less wrong. You be the judge. As a refresher, I'm two-and-two on these challenges, having lost the first and second editions before storming back in rounds three and four. Today, as alluded to above, we decided to throw our collective brainpower (oh lord, what have we done?) at what may be the single most difficult question currently confounding the best minds our planet has to offer: What is the best used used luxury car you can buy for the price of a 2015 Nissan Versa? Shall we meet our contenders? Allow me to introduce you to the most perfect luxury car money can buy (assuming the amount of money you're holding is equal to the amount of the cheapest new car currently sold in America, the Nissan Versa). My pick is the 1991 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Not just any S-Class, but the legendary W126, which was produced between 1979 and 1992. And not just any W126, either, but one powered by a 3.5-liter turbodiesel engine. And with that, I send the argument to my esteemed colleague, Associate Editor Chris Bruce. Bruce: Jeremy, we had over $12,000 to budget for this challenge, and the best you can manage is a 24-year-old diesel Mercedes? I love oil-burners as much as any other auto writer with their mountains of torque and huge cruising range, but you're making this too easy on me. Also, you're really choosing a brown, diesel, German luxury sedan?

2015 Japanese Grand Prix is a little Mercedes, a lot of zen

Mon, Sep 28 2015

Just one week on from the issues in Singapore Mercedes-AMG Petronas appeared to have solved its clamp problems and everything else. Daniil Kvyat at Infiniti Red Bull Racing took the two Free Practice scalps on Friday, but when it came time for qualifying the front of the grid looked really familiar: Mercedes' Nico Rosberg took his second pole position of the season, Lewis Hamilton next to him in second. Kvyat had a hand in that, too, the Russian getting into a big accident in Q3 when he put two wheels on the grass heading into the hairpin and veered into the tire wall so hard that he flipped. That ended qualifying before a number of drivers had a chance to improve their times, Hamilton among them. That's how Valtteri Bottas got in third for Willliams ahead of Sebastian Vettel fourth for Ferrari. Felipe Massa had the second Williams in fifth, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari. Daniel Ricciardo lined up sixth for Infiniti Red Bull Racing, a team we're going to have to enjoy watching for the rest of the season since it might not exist come 2016. Romain Grosjean gave Lotus some good news by getting into eighth, the team so strapped for cash that it couldn't get into its hospitality area, so it held press conferences outside and ate at Bernie Ecclestone's Paddock Club. Sergio Perez took ninth for Sahara Force India, and Kvyat slotted into tenth after not setting a time. The Russsian's race would begin from the pit lane once his mechanics rebuilt his car. It wouldn't be a Formula One start lately without someone at the front having clutch problems. This time it was pole man Rosberg, whose power unit got too hot and put him a few horsepower down on Hamilton through Turns 1 and 2. That's half of how Hamilton took the lead from the lights going out, and the Brit kept it throughout the race. Rosberg, however, said his race was lost when Hamilton pushed him wide through Turn 2, a move Hamilton defended. Rosberg finished almost 19 seconds behind his teammate, a gap that probably isn't fully explained by that opening incident. Hamilton's race was so uneventful that we almost never saw him on camera – that is, we saw him so much less than we usually see him when he's out in front and unpressured that Nikki Lauda said he'd ask Ecclestone why the cameras avoided him. The conspiracy theory holds that FOM was punishing Mercedes for not supplying Red Bull with engines next year.

Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG coming to the New York Auto Show

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

Mercedes-Benz showed off the CLA45 AMG at a private event on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, but was determined not to let it be photographed. We can talk about it, though - after all, a teaser image was released to promote the new Sony game Drive Club. The CLA45 AMG will use the same powertrain as the A45 AMG, which means a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. And that means a small four-door coupe sedan with the highest horsepower-per-liter in the segment. It will shift through the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, should also run out of speed at 155 miles per hour and have that three-stage stability control system.
As with its hatch sibling, the CLA is already so aggressive on the outside - and the parent company so anxious not to demolish the sedan's 0.22 coefficient of drag - that not much has been done to the cranked-up CLA. Even the rather thin tires on the standard only get a little less thin on the hotter variant. Inside will be the telltale AMG signs, with lots of red detailing and that flat-bottomed wheel among the giveaways. We'll know more later this month when the wraps come off at the New York International Auto Show.
